All of these complaints towards Camelback are valid but they aren't in the business of being the mountain for people like us. If I were a casual skier with a family from the New York/New Jersey area I would find a huge list of grievance with Blue. Not enough green circle terrain, no infrastructure, no lodging, no outside of skiing attractions, a bare bones lower lodge, not enough snow tubing, the list could go on and on. For people like this Camelback is perfect. It's like a Six Flags in the winter and people who value safety and security probably really like the fact that someone tells them where to park and there are people controlling skiers speed and seemingly reckless behavior. The extremely unique thing about where we live is that the Poconos have so many mountains close together it's like picking a restaurant. Not every place fits every person but you can definitely find your fit.6 points

If that rendering is any indication they are about 74 years from this actually becoming a reality.5 points

Major props buddy. I would have... 1. Eaten shit getting off the lift. 2. given up shortly there after 3. Tossed said ski shoe things in the trash.5 points

He’s gonna go nuts now as he was talking about not going to renew his pass. Now back to the drawing board 🤣4 points

Very cool. I wonder if this will be done before the 2018 opening of Blue's Vista Lodge Residency Club?4 points

Problems with Camelback... I mean ok so this will be subjective but: First thing I see when I drive down the access road is a giant cement box with tubes poking out. The waterpark looks ugly from the outside and totally blocks the view of the mountain as you drive up. Great first impression. Parking lots are paved. Parking lots require you pay a fee now at peak times. No tailgating in the lots. I used to drive into the upper lot and look for a spot, now they have attendants that direct traffic. Last time I was at CBK when I turned into a lot to look for a space I got chased down and kicked out for entering a "full" lot. The proliferation of non-ski related stuff on the mountain to the detriment of skiers. The re-alignment of ski trails in order to place said non-ski attractions. Allowing non-skier hotel guests to wander over ski trails to access said non-ski attractions. Really tone-deaf, corporate feeling marketing and communication teams. Over zealous ski patrol who will pull a pass if they find you off the groomers. The removal of one of their steeper runs to place a terrain park, where their original terrain park was self contained on its own lift. Not keeping up with the terrain park street art program which was super unique. Finally the prices, which are VT prices.4 points

If you ski them hard enough it earns you the roar of praise. Proud to have accomplished that on technical terrain like Paradise.4 points

Story was leaked and posted via NE Skiology. Reposting from there: Long story short: Vail is cutting prices by 20% next season. Although there is no word on pricing for regional passes like their NE Regional Pass.3 points

Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain. Today was essentially a repeat of yesterday except no C1er but BenM was in the House. Snow was fast and pretty smooth. I skied Razors the most along with challenge, sidewinder and a final run on lower windowmaker to midway to little gap to Burma with no people and fast snow. Now off to sell a tombstone..business is insane right now..I think this will be a cash order so $$$ for my Colorado trip. JADIP3 points

I've seen some comments like "stay safe out there". Like what? How am I supposed to "stay safe" on a chairlift except by not riding said chairlift?3 points

Might be interested in my first and only evening session of the year on Thursday if my day goes well. Should be pretty warm.3 points

i can confidently say you're lying and i've got video to prove it. wasn't on falls though so you're safe.3 points
-
i swear there used to be netting and signage there signifying that falls was a double black diamond, and you kinda had to deliberately go there and not just end up there by chance like you can now. you can kinda make a pretty good educated guess about what lurks below if you're following people you trust and know their skiing instincts. i'm honestly surprised they don't have a patroller just lurking at the top waving to slow people down if there's carnage below.3 points

I don't know wtf a gossip girl is. But you like to gossip and you have tits, so maybe it is you?3 points

Ultimately Camelback will be at "fault", and even if they inspected the lift the day before, or had an outside company do it, and it got an A+ rating, i mean, there still could be a part failure that is so bizarre, nobody has ever seen before, etc, but it will still be Camelbacks fault. A part failure doesnt mean their lifts are shitty and dangerous though.3 points

I used to say that too... Now 18 surgeries for squamous cell skin cancer later, has me wishing I never did. Always wear sunscreen.....3 points

If they could figure out how to cut a green or blue trail to the bottom I could see a high speed long haul be justified Maybe they can do something like the Greek Peak "express" where they have a loading carpet and crank up the speed of a fixed grip if they can't get the skier traffic down there to justify a proper detachable. But yeah for having 1000ft vert there it is pretty hard to lap all of it given how long flat and slow the long haul liftline is. I do hope that their cheap $35/$40 ski for all stays around for a while though, it is a great place to bring people who need rentals, but of course they will charge what the market says they can once they get a hotel in - not sure what the effect would be on skier traffic. It does seem like a fair number of people from further south take Montage/Elk overnights, I guess if Montage had a slopeside hotel they would get more of that vacation $$$ seeing as they seem to have a hard time attracting Philly/NY crowd2 points

Well I guess the view could be good from there but as you said, pretty radical spot to cram a hotel/ski tunnel. Certainly would change the vibe of phoebe snow pod. Good for them though I guess, they definitely could use the skier traffic if this will generate some. More skier traffic=better lifts, better snowmaking, less probability of going bankrupt every few years2 points

And I'd like Elk more if they didn't but they have other things going for them. Absolutely. Like I said, this is subjective.2 points

My biggest complaint in general has been unfriendly to borderline rude employees. Not sure if they still have the courtesy patrol people or not, but being screamed at for skiing switch on an empty trail isn't giving off the most friendly and welcoming vibe.2 points
-
My only real complaint about Camelback is that it's at least 70% runout. Can't blame anyone on that though, just the mountain itself.2 points

Impressive! Around 11 seconds or so if you can actually hear big foot himself roar... listen closely.2 points

Imo,, and I'm no expert at all, but I would think someone would be at fault.. if not camelback for its operation than the manufacturer. If someone goes after camelback they will go after the manufacturer. I can totally understand the silence from camelback, as mentioned I'm sure their legal depart has tight reins on all communication as they can't have someone say the wrong thing. In today's times everything would be found and used. In the end, I hope the 'assumed' family pulls through and recovers to their maximum ability. The most important things right now are the injured and ensuring the lift is safe going forward.2 points

*snow. Personally, I had a pretty deep snore depth about 4 this afternoon.2 points

Oh I'm sure they are going to be upset, but at the same time they would have to be paid out for anything that they had saved up. I think things will remain fairly status quo regardless of what this new company wants to do. Palmerton has got to be a constrained labor market so it's got to be difficult to replace anyone and they will find out quick if they try to lowball the people that do work there and if they walk away it will be difficult trying to backfill them if they offer too little.2 points

There are two runs that are blue on upper half and black on lower half, and the final drop down they make by the long haul lift is a little bit steep for a blue run in PA. They shouldn't be encouraging PA intermediates to go to the lower mountain unless there is a way to grade a new trail down there. And yeah the $40 midweek ski for all/$35 college day tickets are fantastic, 9am-9pm ticket + rental + group lesson (pre 'rona) at one of the largest ski areas in the state. Used to be $25 before they upped it. Sadly that upward trend will likely continue. Montage seemed to be busier than expected this year which is good news for infrastructure improvements/its continued existence but bad news for mega cheap uncrowded big time PA skiing. College day vibe at Montage is definitely a time. Flyers jerseys jeans and beanies, parking lot full of beaters, heckling from the lifts, lots of spectacular wipeouts. good times.1 point

I think its interesting that they divulged the 1.4 million number. That's a lot of passes. more than the entire population of 11 states.1 point

Odds are so slim you’re more likely to get hit by lightning or get eaten by an alligator than die from a faulty chairlift. Still sucks for the victims1 point
