Hey All, I’m back from another shirt morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the upper lot at 835am and it was 36 degrees under mostly cloudy sky’s. In the house were Indiggio, Rodney, BenM, Atomic Jeff and Bethlehem ford guy. It was a bit busier than yesterday. I finally managed first civilian chair today. Come around was firn but smooth..midway and lower Main Street were soft groomed turning to soft cookies and I’m sure bumped up by now. I skied six runs in an hour and peace’s out quick. No beer today. I’m looking forward to seeing what Mother Nature throws us this weekend. Probably just showers and light rain tomorrow AM.. Somebody parked extra close to me and I’m lucky I’m thin as I just barely was able to get into my car without banging the OV offending vehicles car...at work now shit is way too busy for ski season. 9 new orders yesterday...sheesh. Looking fotward to being parked in the lower lot..maybe in January. JADIP6 points

I think this improves things a lot though. In the last few years JF has typically only run 1 lift at a time for the sets of lifts that share towers. Having a quad running full time vs. a single double or triple will up capacity and help with lines for sure.3 points

Tussey is pretty small. Similar in layout to Sawmill. Definitely a lot smaller operation than Shawnee. Shawnee is decently large it's just that there are only like 3 trails that are black steepness and they are short. Otherwise similar vert to Camelback and Jack Frost, with q big lodge, powerful snowmaking, a lot of uphill capacity, and a detach. Laurel Mountain is still owned by the state who could theoretically terminate the operating contract with Vail for someone else when it expires. The state also owns currently inactive Denton Hill which is similar in size and steepness to Laurel but is even more in the middle or nowhere. None or the areas close to the PA border in the surrounding states like Mountain Creek, Greek Peak, Wisp etc. are mega Corp owner yet Also if someone with deep pockets really wanted in on the PA skiing game they could try to reopen Snow Peak https://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=183 points

Body wars was dope but that ended a long time ago. I can eat whatever all day but I can do camel too. Disney we just eat and ride stuff all day so I normally come back a little juicy but who doesn't like them a little more thick2 points

At keystone a photo on the phone or state passport app worked fine to get into the lodges, assuming its the same at jfbb2 points

Ski season up here took its time arriving then dumped four feet on us all at once and it was so much snow you couldn't move the first day. For a few days all the backcountry rock stars from up around Stowe were down here in little ol' Brownsville because Ascutney got hammer-slammered with powder in a storm that didn't go much further north than White River Junction. You never saw so many Sprinter vans and Labrador retrievers in our parking lot. Then two weeks later it rained and washed ALL of that snow away and that's how Vermont winter rolls. Then February arrived and kept giving and giving and it was amazing. Nobody could stand the Epic-Pass lines at Okemo (even weekdays were nuts) so we did lots of AT skiing on Ascutney. I work 24-hour shifts and have way more days off than my friends, so I taught myself to snowboard. Got some snowshoes and earned my turns and bruised my tailbone. I can ride a T-bar on the board no problem but still can't figure out how to get off a chairlift without it looking like a disaster from an I Love Lucy episode. I'm drinking coffee this morning and waiting for the New Yorkers to go home so I can get in some springy-soft runs at Okemo this afternoon. Here are some random pics from this season: One day it was all glare ice on Ascutney after some rain, and we were all bummed not to be able to ski. Then around 3pm the guy who runs the groomer decided to make some passes, so we followed him around for a little sunset touring and fresh corduroy: N The community T-bar runs until 4pm weekends then it clears out fast. I had a firepit and a whole powdery mountain to myself lots of evenings. Skinning up near the top of Ascutney is great fun and the snow was unbelievable last month: I retired from teaching and work as an EMT for a fire department, so I drive a fire engine now. This is so much more fun than grading papers and I have five days off every week!1 point

The East Mountain lifts have been problematic for years. A few of us were actually told to jump off of that lift one time when it stopped. I would also wager that none of these lifts are in fact "brand new". Truth in that. Honestly, every time i get on a lift there i wish i had brought a book.1 point

2 doubles have greater capacity than 1 quad due to faster line speed, closer chair spacing, reduced misloads, easier loading chairs to capacity, and maintenance redundancy. Newer lifts would have less problems but looks like the doubles are Partek from 1999 which isn't that old? Not sure why Vail would want to throw money at replacing those, especially with crowding issues at JFBB, out of all things they could be spending money on but I guess they get a shiny new lift show off.1 point

Got to Jack Frost about 10 o’clock and skied until about noon. Was about 26° when I got there, no wind with hazy sunshine that clouded over during the morning. Did a couple of runs on Jane’s Lane, then spent the rest of the day on one park. Several jumps were set up on the top third but the bottom 2/3 were clear. Snow is in good shape, pretty grippy, and I probably skied too fast for the first day out but it felt pretty good. VAX card required to enter the building, and the only entrance open was the slopeside one. Blowing snow on Demattes, could be a rough week next week for the snow coverage. Light crowd, but more were coming in for the afternoon. Try to hit Blue tomorrow to add to the Boomers there.1 point

Conditions today were great ... best of the year by far ... that slightly soft turning to spring snow conditions make it really ski well.1 point

I have plans to go next Friday somewhere. Hopefully this snow will have opened some additional terrain, so I may get out before then. I have been enjoying climbing in the interim.1 point

Super good, and assuming they are doing the Holidays around the world food stands thing again, there are always some awesome bites to be had there. And some really great values for a snack credit if you’re on the dining plan1 point

Hey All, I’m back from another session at blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the upper lot at 835am and it was 29 degrees under partly sunny sky’s. In the house were Atomic Jeff, TP4, Mute, Ryan, Eaf, Bethlehem ford guy and a couple dozen boomers. Come around and vista was nice snow, almost packed powder, midway was semi slick and lower Main Street was boilerplate. Snow guns were blasting on upper Main Street, Burma road, connector, Tuts Lane, Lazy mile and in the valley. I skied like an hour+ then had a beer in the lot...one of the boomers got his Mini Cooper countryman stuck in the lot. He pulled too far forward and Mute and Ryan came to the rescue and towed him out. All in all a pleasent session and i’ll be back tomorrow AM for more of the same.1 point

Quick 2 hour session, got 12 runs in. Pretty scrapped off but you could find loose snow on the edges of Midway and Lower Main so it wasn’t too bad. Guns started ripping on upper main and Burma (I believe) around 530. Saw and said hi to ridge at the top of the lift. Then saw and briefly spoke to @MattEDGE and @Dirtwolf in the parking lot. beautiful night. Cheers.1 point

The story of how they acquired park city is one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard, and somehow I heard it for the first time today.1 point

October 24 and I still don't have a pass for this year. Not sure I'm going to buy one; weird. I heard that Epic pass sales have increased by some insane amount over last year. And last year I barely used mine because resorts were so horribly crowded. Plus, my work schedule changed so that I can mostly only ski weekends, so...ugh. The two resorts near me (Okemo and Sunapee) are notoriously awful on weekends. I think I may just earn my turns on the local mountain. Dog knows I need the exercise. Plus when there's fresh snow I really enjoy hiking up and snowboarding down. Maybe I'll do that and just see what sort of cheap day passes I can score when I want some lift service? If it's a shite snow year I may change my mind on the passes, but for now I'm freewheelin' into the season with no commitment! Yikes! Will report back on how it goes! Killington is making snow already, though it's been a lovely long, warm autumn up here.1 point
