  1. Oh hello everybody. Today was another day skiing the best ski area in PA. First run was delightful and it remained pretty empty all morning. Ended up stepping off the snow early and going for a run from the top lot to Little Gap and back. Stopped at the bottom of the mountain to snap a picture. Not much going on (obviously with these crap temps) but the triple on the ski school was spinning and lessons or training was going on. JADIP as the kids say. Nice morning crew in the house and the first time seeing @Glenn this season so that was a win for everybody there!

  2. I thought it was gonna be worse than it turned out to be.....Come around held up great...Midway didn't ..first few times down it was nice...Then it got chopped up...On Lower main I felt you could really let it go.... for the most part the crowd is what got me to retire to the lot...Yea it was good seeing @Glenn today....Temps weren't bad either...

  3. So I meant to get here at 730... I'm only 11 hours late. Conditions tonight are definitely special. Boiler plate with sugar bumps. Midway is madness.

  5. Are they open right now at 746 pm on a Sunday night? No they're not. I'm willing to bet that blue is probably one of maybe two or three other ski areas on the East Coast open right now as we speak. Maybe the only one in the East Coast. Shit i wonder how many ski areas are open right now 7:46 on a Sunday night in the entire country. Can't be many

  6. I work in Lancaster and live on the berks/Lancaster county border so I'm probably not too far from you. If you haven't seen them, @EdBacon does a lost ski area series, one on snow peak below.

  9. Jack Frost was pretty rad. 4 blue trails open and mostly in grate shape, except for DeMattes Demise or whatever which had some cookies of death. Still way way better than that atrocious crapola Midway I've become accustomed to during early season. Plus I slept until 7:50 and still made it on time. Skied 1.5 hours, now drinking blistering hot coffee and consuming french Toast at the White Haven diner. #JADIP #WTGAI #DayOfKindness

  14. Starting from Allentown, it takes 5 hours and 42 minutes to drive to Whiteface. To be realistic, though, let's add 30 minutes for gasoline, coffee, Roy Rogers spicy chicken sandwich, and to make toilet. That means you can get to Whiteface in 6 hours and 12 minutes. If you begin your journey at 6:00 am, you can be on the snow in the Dacks by 12:30 pm. Now let's compare this to flying out west. Starting from Allentown, it takes 1 hour and 11 minutes to drive to Philadelphia Int'l Airport (the closest airport to get a direct flight). Then add 5 minutes driving around the economy parking lot looking for the perfect spot. Now add 15 minutes of riding the shuttle. Then let's assume 45 minutes to check in to the flight, check a ski bag, and to get probed up the anoos by security. Now figure 15 minutes walking through the airport to find your gate (add an extra 15 minutes for SLC). Then a 1 hour wait for your delayed flight. Now 30 minutes waiting for the flight to board. Once everyone's on board the plane has to sit there for at least 20 minutes. Now add 20 more minutes taxiing around Philadelphia. Oops, 5 planes ahead for take off so add 20 more minutes. Figure 4 hours and 4 minutes for en route (slowed due to prevailing westerlies). Now 15 minutes taxiing around Denver Airport, and whadyaknow a plane's at our gate so add 10 minutes. Now add 20 minutes waiting to get off the plane. Next a 15 minute trek through the airport, and 15 minute wait for ski bag (add 30 minutes for SLC). Now you have to go pick up your rental car, so that's a 10 minute walk to the Alamo shuttle, 5 minute wait for said shuttle, and then a 20 minute wait to pick up your car. Now you have to inspect the car and sign paperwork, and I'm pretty meticulous so that takes 15 minutes. Finally time to go and drive to play ski so that's around 2 hours minimum to any resort. Finally we arrive and can play ski, and it took 12 hours and 50 minutes, (4:50 pm MST) or 6 hours and 38 minutes longer than driving to Whiteface. During that time I could have made 14 runs at Whiteface (48,020 feet of vertical) and still have 3 hours and 8 minutes left over for hotelhouse SUJOPO.

  19. Currently on my flight home from an early season trip to Utah. I got 5 days of boarding in... Yes terrain was limited, but still very enjoyable with low crowds. A good use of my Ikon Pass and with a second trip planned in March will easily make money money back. I got three days at Brighton. They really on had the terrain off Crest open,, but enjoyable enough. The highlight was Thursday during the dumping of 20 plus inches. Enough snow to make the lower trees playable. I planned to head up ok Friday too, but when I arrived at the Big Cottonwoood entrance at 630@m and there were already 30 cars lined up at the night.. knowing that they only had Crest and Majestic lifts open I did not feel like dealing with the crowds... So I turned around and spent the day downtown and had another highlight of the trip. I found an awesome Cajun restaurant, The Bayou, which had a great beer selection and awesome Crawfish Etouffee. I will revisit on future visits and highly recommend. I also spent a short day at Solitude as they had very little open. There was not much to talk about. Lastly spent my first day ever at Snowbird. I just lapped off Gadzoom as lifts lines were nill.. They had the Tram open, but heard coverage was thin and I did not know what I was going to get into too.. All and all a good trip,, I like the low key vibe of early season, plus it fits I'm with my PTO for work... A couple pictures below(in no particular order)

  20. My guys got the roof dried in just in time for this latest storm. Gonna head down early January once all the windows are in. Can’t wait to lay eyes on it. My builder said there was a bald Eagle hanging around all day. Property goes uphill and eventually reaches forest land. Although that lot belongs to someone else I have heard they live out of state and only come every few years. There is enough space to ski it on a makeshift 4 x 4 road. Only a few hundred feet of very but the steepness of a black resort run.

  30. Ok salty said most of it. And despite his stupid sujopo crap he's spot on. Travel time is travel time. That's how I look at it at least. I've left the white face lot wearing ski pants and been home in time for dinner... Iate dinner but I was there for dinner nonetheless. I've done this math numerous times at least as it pertains to me and where I live. But the only comparable flight out west would be a direct to salt lake from philadelphia. For me however I'm still doing the hour and 45 minutes to the airport then an hour and a half to two hours at the airport killing time then 5 hours in the air then the 45 minute ride to the resort. Other than that to get anywhere out west I'm looking at 13 hours minimum. And honestly that shit gets exhausting sometimes I'd rather do the five and a half drive. You're missing out if you don't try white face. 5 and a 1/2 hours to 3200 vertical feet is tough to beat

  37. Arrived in the upper lot around 7:20 to pretty much an empty lot, more/less. A few minutes later Rodney, @tarponhead, @Benm, @Mixilplix, @JFskiDan, Rick and Slim arrived, bringing a light shower in with them to add to the dense fog. Later on, @mbike-ski, Nikko, @mute1080, Ryan, Boo,@Dirtwolf @antman12and some other bumpers showed up to take part in the fun. Walking out to the rope drop in a significant rain that stopped shortly after and only a couple of very light showers fell the rest of the morning. The snow was spectacular, soft, edgeable, the fog on the other hand was thick, dense and relentless. Early on, lower Main had some good visibility, but as the day went on, the fog kept moving lower. The snow was soft enough for us to set up a couple of bump lines on Midway and Lower Main which broke up the monotony of avoiding the crazies out going full speed in the fog and then wiping out in order to stop. Peaced out to the parking lot around 12pm for beers. Was definitely worth getting up for and the trip. Best snow conditions of the year so far. JADIP
