1. Super-easy change from plane to train at the airport. Picked up luggage, fired up SBB.ch, which produced a few routes with the fastest one just 10 minutes away, reached the escalator down to the numbered platform from the app, and that’s really it. Different trains arrive and leave every 5 minutes, the platform is insanely long, and initially we had hell of a time trying to figure out where exactly we are supposed to wait, esp. since there are 1st and 2nd class carriages, but then came the moment of enlightenment, it appears to be all encoded on the bottom of the board with ABCD naming platform zones, and numbers above - carriage classes. Train came, we went in, beaaaautifulIy empty upstairs, figured I’d carry the stuff there and sit, since it’s about an hour till the next change at Bern, and while I’m huffing and puffing, almost ready to drop down and sleep, I get to realize that conductor is waaaay too chatty, almost like telling a goodnight story, first in German, then in French, I’m thinking, you’ve got to be kidding me, what’s there to talk about?? And then comes the turn of English… There’s a freaking accident somewhere on the tracks toward Bern, so, would you all please just leave at Zurich bahn and then search for alternatives. Wtf! The app starts showing cancellations as well, suggests to take a bus (sic) to get to some other station and take a completely different route, but luckily it soon comes to senses and shows a train an hour away, this time with three connections, but interestingly promising to get us to Grindelwald only 40 mins later. Of course, this train is packed 🤣

 2. Woohoo, the most spontaneous, untimely, borderline inappropriate and irresponsible sprint for Jungfrau skiing region and back (at least for me, hopefully) is under way. Triple-vaccinated, twice-tested, with tedious (and not free!) paperwork for Switzerland certificates and entry forms, as well as the drive, checkin and loooooong security line are all behind our backs now. Three days of skiing and four nights of stay in a village of Grindelwald where we are supposed to arrive via a 3 hour train ride with 2-4 changes, depending on the route that sbb.ch will pick for us when we clear security and claim our luggage in Zurich. Each change is 5-10 mins only, which is going to be exciiiiiting! Rewatched North Face for the scenes from Kleine Scheidegg at the bottom of Eiger, for we’ll hopefully get there as well. It’s been snowing in Jungfrau daily for a few weeks, it’s going to be snowing there every day we’re there, I’m sure I’ll hate every minute of it.

 3. Last week’s buoy bounce seems to be the first of the season. I’m guessing we will be on the lower end, but snow is snow!

 4. I'm gonna try and hit the Lowell observatory while in flagstaff. The Lowell is awesome. It's where Pluto was discovered. Last time i was there they had a bad ass portable telescope setup outside and they pointed it at Saturn. It was my first time seeing the rings. It was like meeting a celebrity. Flagstaff is general is awesome...it's a designated dark ski city so there's always something going on when you look up.

 5. I was thinking that while skiing yesterday. Absolutely terrible name for that trail. So generic and the doesn't fit the trail at all. I came up with a good one on the lift yesterday..."Polaris"....because it faces North and at night you can see the north star from there. Blue you dropped the ball. free fall. Terrible.

 6. Just got back from a half dozen runs with the BIL. Lazy mile was in really good shape, definitely the best of the season. Midway and lower Main Street wasn’t too bad but had some pretty big marbles transitioning into death cookies. A lot of fresh snow put down. I think the bad weather down in Philadelphia this morning kept a lot of people away, so there was never any lift line.

 13. The GPS stuff is terrible inaccurate. I've done a radar-gun confirmed 70+ mph on Razors Edge but that was on a sheet of ice in the most aerodynamic tuck I could get into. I laugh when people say they casually got to 60+ mph at Blue.

 14. It's been fun, but it only keeps getting better. Thanks everyone!

 15. Around Blue there seems to be a black hole that accelerates you to ludicrous speed. I've seen people claim 75 on razors edge ....No Bueno

 16. It’s the old George Carlin joke. Who cares what the weather is at the airport, no one lives at the airport.

 17. Had a great day. Lots of leftover Christmas cookies this morning, glad I got the skis sharpened. Sun was warm, no wind. Perfect ski day, then a fun tailgate. Got lots of runs in

 18. Was on the snow 430-730 tonight with a beer and peanut butter cracker break in the middle. 32° and clear skies for a nice sunset. Saw Johnny Law ’s car but never caught up with him. Buses were back in the lot and a lot of special people out. Waited for JL at the top for a couple minutes and had 3 people ski over my tails. Slight line from 5-6 but VIP was wide open so not much waiting. First half of Lazy had the best snow and the rest of it was pretty much scraped off. Midway to Lower wasn’t bad but had some dark spots with lights out. Shuttle was pretty technical with the amount of snowboarders walking and people struggling to get across. Excited for more terrain to open and hopefully spread some people out. I’m interested to see how the new lights on Coming Soon look while skiing. They look super bright.

 23. I like the Slopes app. It’s subscription based but seems to be fairly accurate regarding speed. They also added a track friend on the mountain feature this year.

 29. I don’t turn it on til I’m walking out of the lot on to the snow. I didn’t feel like I was going that fast, and I do turn my skis a lot. I guess you can pick up a lot of speed on those cookies

 33. The knob is good with lots of snow, there is alot around that place for PA but its needs alot of snow. Otherwise you've just driven three hours to Claysburg to ski a crack head version of Blue. Also don't get a cheeseburger from the lodge.
