I'll finish up the thread on a positive note...despite the fact that I need to walk a few blocks to DD for coffee now. Anyway... Great time out here. I'd highly recommend Flagstaff for any PASR interested in skiing Arizona Snowbowl and seeing that giant canyon thing right up the road as well (everyone should see it once right? Or 50000x...it never gets old). Speaking of, you can see the GC from the top of Snowbowl which I thought was a wives tale. As for the skiing, snowbowl is great. It's not as big as the big dawgs further north but damn...what's there is really fun. I really want to ski the stuff up in the bowl when it's open...but even without it, it's great. Nice steeps, a ton of gladed terrain, cruisers, great snow (western groomers etc)...you name it. It's also a straight vert type of mountain. Grab your 2500 or whatever with every run as opposed to pod skiing bullshit which I'm not a fan of...which means, yes, I prefer Arizona Snowbowl to Steamboat (F you Ski magazine). Like the terminator....I'll be back, probably next year and I can't wait! Probably skip the GC and do 3 ski days next time. Either way your in heaven so all good.7 points

A tough season for the TLCITW men. Pre Christmas limited trails and questionable conditions. Christmas week, too many people overcrowding the same limited trails, then conditions deteriorated further, eventually causing the 3 day New Years weekend shutdown to recoup. Finally all last week the Covid virus struck.... Extremely fatigued, headache, off and on fever then chills, sore throat, no congested lungs or severe cough, thankfully.. Feeling better last two days. Hopefully the season will improve soon. The beer is cold anywhoo...6 points

Hey All, I’m back from another fun morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 824am and it was in the lower 20s under mostly cloudy sky’s. In the house were Atomic Jeff, enjorales cousin, Charles, Atomic Jeff, Bethlehem Ford guy and Rodney. The quad was running and it was a cold ride with snowguns blasting all over the east side. First run on Free fall was nice and a patroller trying to get us to pump the breaks as we hit Paradise. Next run on Main Street has the best snow on the mountain..almost packed powder. Lazy mile was good snow and the falls is sort of narrow but decent for the first day it’s open. Paradise also nice snow but a wet gun at the beginning which had me sprayed and coated with ice ice baby. Seconds and thirds were had on Main Street and Free fall..and I ended up with 8 runs total by 1025. The quad didn’t stop much and the crowd was moderate for a Monday..most chairs were filled but no liftline...now back at work like a dork...JADIP5 points

complain on twitter. the fact that the flight is almost complete complicates things though. if you are still at the gate, you could ask the agent for a better seat, but it's prob a small plane since you're going to allentown. for the future (for you and others) - i'm not sure who you're flying with, but was able to get fully refunded on american for a flight due to a stop being added (thank god because i couldn't extend the covid credit further and i didn't want the aggravation of planning a trip long in the future in just a few days). mainly pointing that out in case prices were to have gone down after it was switched. refund and rebook to save $$. but try twitter first. i have maybe 10 followers and no twitter clout, but i have always received a response. sometimes they'll go above and beyond - after a bunch of calls to dell and no traction, i sent a tweet saying something like 'thanks dell, now i have a fire hazard in my bathtub' and they replaced my laptop battery that was out of warranty for free. american also finally got me vouchers from a few years back. i managed to figure out a way to game their policy of expiring vouchers, got them extended another year. the phone agents didn't know how to (or didn't want to) handle it.3 points

^ agree! In room coffee is sacred. I am way too cheap to buy a $5 bottle of water though. I am a tap water gal wherever I go. *Except for Hawaii now I guess. My son tells me the military’s fuel tanks are leaking into the water supply (and have been for years). I I will have to break down and do bottled water if I go visit him. glad you had such a good time in AZ. Nice to see you so happy, I know that’s your favorite place.3 points

Haven't been to Blue in a hot minute. Sounds like it's gonna look a lot different than last time I was there...stoked for that, probably Wednesday RAW. Looking forward to skiing Tom Petty.3 points

Coming soon has an experts sign right so run the sizer and make it skate to terrain Monday through Thursday mornings. The quad won't run as the main valley chair all season2 points

Nice try Salty but no. There's a time and a place to complain. A hotel messing around with coffee in the morning is one of them. Complaining about the course of natural events however like, for example, the weather, isn't2 points

It was soooo nice to get out and ski and main street was pretty nice snow to put the hammer down. They should have pretty much everything open this weekend as they were blowing the fuck out of everything not open. Only thing I didn't get to was the titties deep on widowmaker.2 points

WJW, that's a lot of unexpected complaining from you about coffee. It sounds like I wrote this! On trips I rarely drink the in room coffee, I just go out and buy some. In fact this year I think I'll bring my own coffee machine and just make my own. Funk using their $5 water bottles, just go buy a gallon of quality H2O from the 99 cent store.2 points

wtf, pioneer pass is an actual trail? i thought it was something on the learning hill or a lift.2 points

Probably because they need to blow more on that to make all of the jumps, root rollers, and grind bar features for the park kids.2 points

Place I'm at is kinda lame. $12 to park...a couple bucks for a shitty throw away toothbrush...fine. I'm not gonna get mad. But the coffee situation is complete trash and the reason I won't stay here again. They give you an in room Kuereg which is great but stashed in between 2 $5 bottles of water that they force you to open in order to make the coffee. But what set me over the edge is that they give you three k cups...1 is regular and 2 are decaf. They now full well that no one's drinking fucking decaf so you're forced to purchase more regular. WJW. 1 star review incoming. OTH Shout out to the Comfort Inn in Flagstaff which is awesome.... unlimited coffee, full breakfast, fireplace, ski lodge feel, clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly peeps.2 points

So yeah, widowmaker is cool, falls is helpful, but probably the thing to take away from that is they can move the snowmaking resources to another trail, and take advantage of the wicked cold coming up.2 points

Nah, there's a way up to the snow from behind the ski patrol building. I can't believe people hitchhiking up, when it's not that long a hike to the training hill and a short hike from there to to doubles, done it many times.2 points

I only skied sugarloaf two days when my dad picked me up the end of first semester freshman year of college...and one day at Sunday river. Sugarloaf is a huge mountain by east coast standards and has a lot of nice natural snow terrain. It’s just so freaking far away. A lot of good upper intermediate pitched runs..you’ll have a blast...2 points

As the season progresses I see liftlines getting long for the quad on weekdays if they don’t run the six pack. Although you can’t access free fall from the six pack, it’s still the ideal lift for max capacity and fast laps. The quad is 27 years old and I’m not optimistic about it being such a workhorse this season.1 point

I think the long trek from the quad over to Main Street kept a lot of people off of it. The top of Main St., above Midway, was in Primo condition. I was kind of amazed at how many guns they had going at once all over the mountain. Getting the impression Jack Frost is going to need a big natural snow dump to get things opened. One comment about how the ticket gates are set up on the quad. Once things started getting a little backed up, rather than coming in perpendicular to the gates people came in from the side, and blocked the season pass gate.1 point

@toast21602 why are you confused? You must be a hata'. You should make a new hater reaction emoji.1 point

I have to agree with you although when you’re on vacation splurge a little and enjoy the in room Fiji water.1 point

I plan on taking a home Covid test later this week and if negative.. Let the season begin anew... Hope to see the crew for another PASR Day... I'll get some Old Forge Pizza again....1 point

Yes stayed in flag. There is a motel at the bottom of the access road called base camp. I stayed there before in the summer when it was called ski lift lodge but snowbowl purchased it and renovated it. Probably worth staying in Flagstaff though as there's so much to do and a million different places to eat. Edit...night at the grand canyon was at the masiwik Lodge on the rim1 point

If VR doesn't stop the bleeding soon I will be curious to see how it effects next year's sales... I'm sure they have lost some already...VR will prolly blame it all on the pandemic ....1 point

The people that were “supposedly” hitch hiking up Blue Mt Drive, are clearly from Palmerton, not MALVERN. who in their right mind would think thats the smart play?1 point
-
Maybe, but no one should have to hike anywhere because of blue's incompetence. They could have towed them with snowmobiles or the cat. They drive multiple people in those golf carts.1 point

I would imagine ice on the haul was making havoc when they went to detach. Fixed grip has their place because they almost always run.1 point
