Keeping a watchful eye on the storm rolling up the coast early in the week had me hoping we could be in front of it before it hit, but that proved to be out of the question as it decided to move faster than initially forecast. As the snow began to fall Sunday night, I was hoping for the worst, a quick changeover to rain so it wouldn’t take an eternity to drive from Hellertown to Lake Placid. We needed to stop in Wilkes-Barre to pick up the son and then head on to upstate NY. Awake all night, I could hear the pitter-patter on the skylight. Since I could hear it, it had to have switched to sleet or rain, but couldn’t tell which. Finally got fed up and looked to see the road out front just wet. At least part of the ride would be easy. Checking the radar showed a mixed bag of precipitation all the way to Lake Placid. Rain in the Lehigh Valley, freezing rain around Hazelton, sleet and then snow up in Scranton-WB all the way up. Wonderful! Left around 5:45am to get to WB after the kid’s shift. Usual 90 minute drive took 2 hours. Wet snow started just above the Blue Ridge and continued into WB. After packing the car, I could see some blue skies breaking through, but radar up North showed different. The entire ride on 84 across to the NY thruway was white knuckle, snow-covered. Most if the thruway to Albany was clear sailing until Lake Gorge when the snow began to fall again, but good. More gestures to slow down followed from the wife, which just made me drive even faster! The drive on 9 & 73 was Interesting and fun, over hill and Dale, back into the wilderness. Who found this place for Olympics is beyond me! Just then the ski jumps come into view, cool! Checked into out cozy tiny home & then went out in search of beer and food. Just down the road is Big Slide brewery, so we picked up a crawler of their Giant Double IPA which was quite good. Also picked up some Lake Placid brewery’s Shredder IPA. First choice for food was Smoke Signals BBQ based upon numerous recommendations including @RidgeRacer, but passing by it didn’t look like it was open, maybe the holiday? Dunno. Son made executive decision for pizza, so it was a Supreme and garlic cheese bread from Bazzi’s pizza, both of which hit the spot. Gonna be another chilly one at Whiteface tomorrow with a high of 7! Time to suck it up! Ski The East! Spicy roads… Ski jumps… Around town… Supreme pizza & beer…8 points

(Downhill) Ski day #1 of the new year for me, I didn't go last week because I had covid, oops. (Glad to get that out of the while I'm on break I guess) Absolute amateur hour on my part, I rolled into Montage bright and early for opening, tried to redeem my Indy pass, it's blacked out (duh 🙄) - well at this point at Montage I figured I am most of the way to Vermont so I just cruise up 81 to Elk, eating my crunchy bologna sandwich which had frozen solid because I left it in the car last night. Elk was busy but I probably didn't wait more than 5min for a lift, those lines move deceivingly fast. Trails were not crowded at all. Snow quality was great except the far west trails which were a bit slick. Line at the quad was a bit longer than at the lodge because they weren't running the double over there, I assume to keep those trails from become slicker since there were a few routes not open over there. It was warmer than I expected after driving up in 0 degrees this morning, it was 28 when I left but definitely had chilled after the clouds showed up. Beautiful day before then. Elk should be opening a few more trails soon that they blowing on today. Apparently it was deserted yesterday and last night due to the cold. I got one last run in perfectly timed, a good time to quit too as my legs were getting pretty tired from telemarking down the (not quite) 1000 feet of vertical excitement looking like a noob. I had a very large and very reasonably priced slice of pizza and coffee, got a personal elk wagon back to my car, and started cruising back down 81 towards Lancaster just in time to catch some nice wintry precipitarion. Well if I had been thinking I would have taken the northeast extension and 222 back but I was not, I pull off 81 in Pine Grove and soon come to the realization that I am on route 645 on top of Blue Mountain in my outback with all-season tires with several inches of fresh wintery mix in the dark. So I decended in 1st gear and 1 hour behind schedule finally roll into Lancaster after stopping at Turkey hill to clean the ice off my wipers. Anyway the skiing was great and I can't say the drive wasn't interesting.8 points

Today was good. Different, but good. Worth the drive for sure. 6.5 or 7 out of 10 overall. Main Street was an 8.5, NWDW 8 whereas coming soon was a 3 or 4. Zero crowds to speak of. The key was to find groomer tracks to get any kind of momentum. Trails that were groomed last seemed to be best. Other trails that had snow over what was groomed felt like skiing on glue. I don't think I ever turned as much on razors. Bottom of falls literally stopped you in your tracks. OTOH main was like main...a tad grippier but you could get speed and was consistent t2b. NMDW was similar and I dug the rollers on the right side. CS was bad however, but will probably get better as people ski it... Overall a fun day.7 points

This new wintry mix is turning sloppy in Lancaster. I had to ski it in da moonlight before the rain melts it away. Wet and gliding surprisingly well on new tracks. The previous snow had been skiiable until wednesday Full🌝Moon It would be cool if the ski areas around here continued the party a bit later until like midnight especially under the full moon. I know there are some xc operations that do that.6 points

There was a car that went sideways on the ramp ahead of me coming home. Backed things up pretty good. There were some guys trying to push it and from the little distance I could see it looked like they were flailing around like some high school kids who were too scared to call their dads for help. As I got closer it was a bunch of grown men in designer clothes trying to get their Porche to move, so I just drove around them.3 points

Rode Friday night and Sunday morning. Friday night sucked... After a beautiful warm day up there it froze over and was sh*t by the time I got there at 530, mixed with long lines and I bounced quickly. I can do bad conditions and no crowds, I can do good conditions and crowds.....but bad conditions and crowds.......im out. Sunday morning was very nice. Rode from 9-11, bluebird day and fantastic conditions. Little crowded but that was to be expected. The new Cascade build is pretty nice along with the new setup on lower blackbear. Looking forward to getting out a couple times this week.3 points

Morning sesh, cold and beeahs’ kickin my ass, needed to get some things done this morning so Did an afternoon tele sesh. snow held up well and plenty of surfable soft in the edges. After a few TCS’s, razors , NMDW and a main ended up going over the bars on the baby bumps/spine on paradise lol. Met up with MrsSoBunski for some beers in the bar before driving home in the snow around 6:30. Helluva lot better than watching Brady beat up the birds lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I almost don't want to say it out loud but blue has been in serious boner donor mode. Everyday for the last 10 or more has been waking up next to the person of your dreams nearly as hot sibling. I rode switch like 6 or 7 times in a row, just a near perfect carpet, plunging at full speed, Ronco effort turns the whole way and switch didn't even have the best snow. Top fucking notch lot session, massive props to Enjo for a surprise feast. Nothing is better in single digits than delicious hot food and the one meat that was like hot butter, just crazy good. Everything is everytime and still it's like fuck is that good. Round of applause to Atomic too for throwing down on gs skis after running to Mars yesterday, that's Shane levels balls out. Snowing here about an inch so far crazy to say but hope it doesn't fuck up the snow LOL LOL LOL3 points

Arrived for round 2 with Boo at 420 and got after it. Most of the snow is scrapped off except the slower trails. Snow started falling at 515 and someone had a medical emergency is the 6 pack corral around 530 but they didn’t stop loading. Ambulance came so hopefully everything will be good for them. Quad is pretty much ski on which is nice. Grabbing a beer and heading back out.3 points

Yeah hard to believe it was the same mountain today. Everything had beautiful conditions, every lift running, no lines, every trail and glade skiable. They seemed to have a "please poach" policy. Impressed my girls motivated early enough for us to be on the 17th chair. Their cafeteria food is definitely subpar though. Beautifully clean roads all the way home. Made it door to door in 3.5 hrs.2 points

It's always super nice just to be there when it's empty empty. Just go stand around for 30 seconds and look at the place without 4 million Jerry's everywhere it's alot easier to appreciate. Sounds like top quality tail gunning snow, its soo wet your getting alot of base suck and snow sticking to the bases. Should be nice all groomed out and with some time to dry out.2 points

As someone who's skied at Frost almost 200x with the vast majority of them being really really good...this is sad to hear. Frost has so much potential and Vail, I'm sure, doesn't care.2 points

Salty I already sold two tombstones today over the phone. I had to press a lot of buttons on the credit card machine and put receipts in the mail. I’m also gonna take out the papers and clean the trash out of my car yakkety yak2 points

Skied til almost 8. Temp was 22° when we left and a little over an inch fell. I was feeling warm since it was 25° warmer than this arriving morning. Air hose blew on lower Sidewinder which kind of looked like a wacky inflatable tube man. Hella people poaching Sidewinder whales, especially when they stopped blowing at 630. WTGAI. Drive home was semi spicy. Didn’t have an issue but snow was going sideways. There was a car on it’s roof in a ditch on 248 just below Seemsville Road. Police were already in the scene so we didn’t investigate. The crowd left as soon as the snow started and conditions improved. Razors was the best tonight and usually empty. Fingers crossed there’s no rain and it stays snow all night.2 points

I’m guessing at opening the lines weren’t that long. Sure those that lingered around and stopped at Howard Johnson’s for pigs in a blanket on the way and hot coffee may have at to deal with fa fa fa fuckery.1 point

@saltyant has anybody ever taught you terrain park etiquette aka Smartstyle? Yes smartstyle is not just a chain of discount hair salons it’s the code of the terrain park. From the park to the parking lot to the windows to the walls...respect gets respect. Easystyleit, look before you leap, and call your drop in multiple languages and sign language for the hearing impaired.1 point

i guess like 5-6 inches? Had to be 6 inches on my truck, but theres not much on my roof so i assume it was blowing around before we got rain/sleet. Fucking heaviest snow ever. Looks like it will be around for a while though.1 point
