  1. Super solid morning up at Shawnee. Arrived around 9. 12° and light breeze. Used my Indy pass for the first time. So easy. On the snow a little after 9:15. Took a run off of the HS quad to check out snow. Great snow. Got to the bottom and threw on my skins. Ended up doing 3 skin laps. Not many places around here allow it but SP was super chill about it and would wave on their way down and were chatting it up at the top. No designated trails so it’s players choice on the way up. One way to make 12° Feel warm is to earn your turns I was soaked with a long sleeve and a shell. Around 2000’ elevation gain and no lift lines on those laps 🤣 Ended the day with a few more runs off of the quad and called it. Really excited to get back here again!

  2. 21jan Bolton Valley: woke up to -13F so kinda not in a hurry to get outside. Left waitsfield at 9AM and to BV 45 min later. Access road got some STEEP sections. Spicy weather would be interesting… BV reporting 20” in the last 8 days but nothing in the last 72 hr. wilderness peak not open so basically one lift up. My impression of BV is if you mash up smuggs and Magic you get BV. If you like ripping groomers this place is not for you. But it got a gazzilion rabbit holes to poke around in and I was having a hoot. The snow off trail was still pretty good - guess arctic temps will do that.Temps warmed to maybe 4F today but at least no wind so if you dressed like an astronaut you were fine. Plan is to hit opening here tomorrow and ski to noonish and head home tomorrow. Looking forward to another day here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. There is a nice layer of ice on the streets under the little bit of fresh snow. It’s a sketchy game walking in ski boots to the bus. We will see how long it takes until I lose. 16 degrees and light snow when I arrived at the mountain. Visibility was poor so I opted for Red Lady instead of Silver Queen lift. That terrain turns into pea soup quick. Did some runs off the front, then headed down to East River. On low viz days it’s always a bit better down there. Snow was better down there too. It has not snowed here in a while so happy for what was falling today to freshen things up. It was the first day of my short season that I felt good on my skis. Non existent lift lines. Friday is the new Saturday closer to the front range, so this was nice! Gonna be bluebird next 2 days. Trees pretty cruddy and icy.

  4. Greatest news ever is that they've been loading both expresses since about 10am, so a little bit of suffering on periodically stopping quad with an inevitably growing line, and life became beautiful. Grooming was impeccable on some trails like Main, Paradise or Lazy, but with plenty of cookies on others, worst one was probably Sidewinder, Switchback somewhat in-between. They've groomed TCS as well, so now it's way nicer, compared to how it was two days ago with bare ice on the right hand side and indescribable piles on the left, but grooming was far from perfect, with the bottom half being so uneven. Great morning. Sunny but coooold. Had to stop and buy toe warmers about an hour in.

  5. TR 1-21; rolled into the lot at 8:30 and it was very cold! Very few cars in lot. Ropes dropped at 9:10 and had first chair up B. Kodiak was perhaps the best snow of the season! Jumped over to F chair and snow on that side was mostly firm as it was still early. Grizzly was absolutely sweetness on the half shell, powdery and eminently edgeable into a firm Broadway. Timberline was fairly nice, in and out of ungroomed on top of the firm. Top 2/3 of Sasquatch was powdery and sweet with very firm/icy bottom 1/4. Black Bear was nice snow. All in all it was great conditions with warming up (if you can call it that) in late morning. JADIP.

  7. I am going to go this year once they open Stembogan, I mean, I really would like to ski Extrovert but the stars would really have to align for me to be able to get there on the approximately 1 day per year it is open Maybe I'll get there Presidents weekend since they are not blacked out on Indy pass then They slowly but surely opening terrain - will open to the bottom this weekend + terrain park. Stembogan might be soon up on the snowmaking list. I was following their snow report last year too, I don't think they are that far behind in comparison, we had a late start last year too very similar.

  19. Keeping a watchful eye on the storm rolling up the coast early in the week had me hoping we could be in front of it before it hit, but that proved to be out of the question as it decided to move faster than initially forecast. As the snow began to fall Sunday night, I was hoping for the worst, a quick changeover to rain so it wouldn’t take an eternity to drive from Hellertown to Lake Placid. We needed to stop in Wilkes-Barre to pick up the son and then head on to upstate NY. Awake all night, I could hear the pitter-patter on the skylight. Since I could hear it, it had to have switched to sleet or rain, but couldn’t tell which. Finally got fed up and looked to see the road out front just wet. At least part of the ride would be easy. Checking the radar showed a mixed bag of precipitation all the way to Lake Placid. Rain in the Lehigh Valley, freezing rain around Hazelton, sleet and then snow up in Scranton-WB all the way up. Wonderful! Left around 5:45am to get to WB after the kid’s shift. Usual 90 minute drive took 2 hours. Wet snow started just above the Blue Ridge and continued into WB. After packing the car, I could see some blue skies breaking through, but radar up North showed different. The entire ride on 84 across to the NY thruway was white knuckle, snow-covered. Most if the thruway to Albany was clear sailing until Lake Gorge when the snow began to fall again, but good. More gestures to slow down followed from the wife, which just made me drive even faster! The drive on 9 & 73 was Interesting and fun, over hill and Dale, back into the wilderness. Who found this place for Olympics is beyond me! Just then the ski jumps come into view, cool! Checked into out cozy tiny home & then went out in search of beer and food. Just down the road is Big Slide brewery, so we picked up a crawler of their Giant Double IPA which was quite good. Also picked up some Lake Placid brewery’s Shredder IPA. First choice for food was Smoke Signals BBQ based upon numerous recommendations including @RidgeRacer, but passing by it didn’t look like it was open, maybe the holiday? Dunno. Son made executive decision for pizza, so it was a Supreme and garlic cheese bread from Bazzi’s pizza, both of which hit the spot. Gonna be another chilly one at Whiteface tomorrow with a high of 7! Time to suck it up! Ski The East! Spicy roads… Ski jumps… Around town… Supreme pizza & beer…

  20. Had a blast skiing WF with Indigo and son yesterday (~27k vert?). Made the 85 mile traverse to MRVin a little over 2 hours, settled in at the White Horse inn and enjoyed killer burrito and beverages at the Mad Taco. 20Jan Mt Ellen: woke to ~20F but knew temps would drop as the day progressed so dressed like an astronaut and made the 3 min commute to Mt Ellen taking advantage of its throwback Thursday program of Mt Ellen only for $40. Bad day for Mt Ellen only pass if you like diversity. Load testing north ridge quad so all of upper mountain is closed. Inverness lift does not spin mid week either. Only runs are cliffs, hammerhead, tumbler and lower fis. Of which only cliffs was groomed. Cliffs was meh, Hammerhead is sketch up top but good below. Took a header on HH trying to negotiate a large exposed rock band and spent the next 15 min climbing up to retrieve my ski and find relatively flat ground to click back in. Tumbler was ROTD. FaNtastic snow with several head walls of bumps. Really super fun and spent 90% of day lapping tumbler. Lower fis was also pre sweet but looonnnngggg runout with uphills and exposed stream crossings made it a one n done. So pretty much lapped tumblers unti ~2PM when my legs said no mas. Temperatures seriously tank tomorrow and I head to Bolton Valley which I have never skied before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I wondered if they groomed TCS since it didn’t show the orange ‘ungroomed’ sign at top. Was out for about an hour RAGC (right after watching grandkids - daycare room is closed due to covid). Razors was nice, a little marblely up top and a few slick spots, but overall nice. Switched edges after skiing a few days on them and the skis felt better. Widowmaker was in the best condition of the slopes I tried. Never got too crowded, but a lot of teens out.

  26. i dont think so, but really its all kind of relative, i think Bear, and Roundtop are 100%. Not sure what Shawnee is but Blue does have a significant more amount of acreage to cover.
