  2. Today was super good, the snow wasn't as good as yesterday with some crappy spots around but still very very good. The ice has come in and frozen up Chukchi Sea, it's not terrible but very fast and hard so icebreaking ships only. You can make it to the Berlin wall but your going to be moving very fast. I think yesterday pretty much everything was very high trafficked and as such the drier softer snow has yielded to a more blue like surface. Still very good but more to watch out for. Switch and main were best or maybe Chute for putting me on my ass. Super disappointed to miss my favorite meal, toast and I were talking about the fruit by the foot pancakes but it's my brother's bday and the responsible thing to do was leave at 930.....so I left at 1045 šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

  3. In the house were @mute1080, @JFskiDan @Mixilplix, @antman12, @theprogram4, @Johnny Law, @Benm, @enjoralas, @momskeeztoo , falco's crew, matt edge, pops, and probably a bunch of other people I forgot. First run for me was sidewinder, followed by a slick run down coming soon. Top of the Communist Crevasse was ok but got sketchy for me after that. My goggles turned to ice and the trail was pretty firm. Lazy, main, and switch were all pretty good. Brunch in the lot and beers which was awesome. Had a bacon egg and scrapple sandwich and some chorizo. JADIP, just another day in Palmerton

  4. First run down Challenge was superb, if/when you got into a groomer groove. Definitely the best snow Iā€™ve skied on it this year by far. Took a run down the Communist chute which had a skiff of overblow, but not enough to make it great, so popped out to the bumps which had some new, firm chalk show. Hope to get back to it later. Unfortunately there was a race today, so the quad was probably going to be busy. Main was pretty good, but by the time I got to Switch it was already chewed up and spit out marbles. Eventually discovered the extreme left edge of Sidewinder had some extraordinarily good snow the entire run, so we just kept lapping that so long as the quad lines allowed. Lines got too long by noon, so headed for the lot. @mute1080, @PSUFly, @enjoralas and Pops still hanging and cooking up the last of breakfast/lunch, so got to sample the delicious, as usual, wares. The pancakes were off the hook, sausage and luckily a few slices of scrapple remained. Went and fetched @momskeeztoo who promised to stop by and made sure she did! Had to do some searching for Paradise and found it on Sidewinder today.

  8. Didnā€™t get enough of the outdoors at Blue today, so decided to noodle around the yard trying out the new stuff. Everything worked as expected, just need more experience with it. @JFskiDan the skins didnā€™t glide very well to start, but also did get better after a while. They sure make some strange sound when gliding.

  12. Iā€™ve been pretty lax on the reports because every day here has been like groundhogs day. Jackson hole mountain resort received 20 feet of snow, most of it falling in late December and early January. A lot of it was heavy Pacific Northwest snow which filled in and pasted every nook and cranny of the mountain which has made for excellent coverage from top to bottom. North facing areas like Bivoac, Crags run, 10 sleep bowl and some cold lower mountain terrain like Slalom run has been nice chalk while south facing stuff has been a lot stiffer. The first ski day on Wednesday was extremely empty and had the best snow so far. Zero liftlines at all and Thursday continued with zero liftlines and I skied the Hobacks that day which had nice coverage but pure moguls, nowhere I could really let my skis run...the days generally began with an amphitheater from the gondola summit to the bottom of Thunder which the first three days was Boner Doner, today not so good more like Blues grooming. Laramie bowl and Grand have mostly been good, Rendevous trail is a clusterfuck..Bivoac Iā€™ve skied every day was huge chalk and slick bumps day one..groomed day two loose snow flying everywhere and still chalky days three and four. The Casper lift has been closed the entire time so far which has made the Teton lift a bit busier but terrain in the Casper area has been emptier because you need to get to it from other lifts. Today did at least three nonstop top to bottom Teton lift laps which are like 3.5 minutes up and 2 minutes down and had some serious burn. Apres vous area has been crowded and cold... Everyday of this trip has been freezing at the bottom like -15 to -20 warming into the single digits while up high has been in the teens mostly. The first day was partly sunny and last three have been full sunshine. It hasnā€™t been frantic at all, weā€™ve been leaving the hotel at 8am and getting on the first or second civilian gondola everyday and Iā€™m usually pretty stoned for the lucky people who get to hear about the tombstone industry and about pros and cons of pow days vs non pow days. Today after skiing had lunch at Osteria in the Hotel Terra..Caesar salad and Bolognese, two tables over was Kai Jones, pro skier and son of Teton Gravity research founder Jeremy Jones. Also got to chat with a Portland guy who is originally from Long Island who is living at the Antler Inn this winter for $1200 a month and has a $1080 senior citizen season pass along with an air fryer. Wintertime wnd the livings easy. He used to work for John Lennan, Billy Joel and Jerry Seinfeld..fucking legend.

  13. Had a nice day. Glad I got to sample the delicious breakfast for lunch. Thanks @enjoralas Didnā€™t do CS today, heard from a reliable source it wasnā€™t great, and Khrushchevā€™s crevice was not worth it. Best snow was on Switchback. But I am biased, as that is my favorite trail.

  18. I returned to Vermont for the 2nd week in a row since some friends decided to meet up there. Rolled in at 9, one friend unfortunately waited for about an hour for rentals so definitely would reccomend renting off mountain for those that need to. Just as busy as last holiday week and staff in the lodge was a bit thinner. Word is Elk has not been unaffected by staff shortages but I think all things considered they have been managing pretty well. Still no north double. Similar ~5min lines, north quad line moved much slower than east doubles as expected. Snow quality was amazing, best I've skied since Plattekill powder day last year. Blue skies and fairly cold but Elk doesn't seem to get that windy those spruce and pine trees really do help Lehigh open on natural snow. Pretty fun run There are zero tracks in the woods lmao if you want to get your pass pulled seems like there would be enough snow. Tunkhannock and middle of Seneca left ungroomed and are beginning to bump up nicely. Tunkhannock was a bit icy though. Big whales on bottom of Seneca those will probably be pushed out. Kickapoo and several additional blacks are open nearing 100% terrain. Run of the day was the race course which opened when they were done. Amazing amazing snow Stopped at Denny's in Scranton to destroy our arteries and managed to avoid the monkeys on the loose on I80 best headline of the year so far lol https://abc7.com/monkey-truck-crash-danville-pa-monkeys-escape/11498297/ https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/21/us/monkeys-truck-crash-pennsylvania.html

  19. Yeah, Iā€™ve flown them twice with skis and never had a problem, but I have read stories online that others have. I usually pack a pair of my ski pants and some shirts and stuff around the skis to help protect them in the soft bag, especially since thereā€™s mine and Pops in there. The one time the did ask me ā€œNothing but skis and poles in there?ā€ And I said just some T-shirtā€™s around the skis to keep them from banging each other and got a ā€œOh, thatā€™s okay.ā€ I suspect the person we saw being hassled was either being an a-hole to the gate agent or more likely the bag was overweight so that opened the can of worms.

  20. And any of you guys whose wife/girlfriend skis or rides, but doesnā€™t want to come with you, because they wonā€™t be able to keep up, they are welcome to ride with me when Iā€™m there. My group is definitely no pressure. Do what you want when skiing/riding. Thatā€™s what itā€™s about.

  34. There is a parking lot at the bottom off 611 I tried to go on the AT on the lower third or so but it wasn't fun had to keep taking the skis off wayyy to rocky. The other trails from that same parking lot further back from the river/cliff were actually pretty good though . High speed lift pictured above ^ it's like 10 years old maybe? Really well maintained and super fast. The rest of the lifts are Partek (also in great shape) which they run fairly sslow due to typical Shawnee clientele. Fun fact 55% of Shawnee skiers rent, and they have 4,000 sets of rental equipment https://www.stormskiing.com/p/podcast-61-shawnee-mountain-pennsylvania Yah pretty cool I havent actually gotten a good look at the water gap before

  36. Tomorrow when your ripping down a perfect groomer and it hits that spot where it really gets interesting that's where blue runs out of vert and you'll still have 4k to go. Plus who the fuck ever knows what the weather will be here but my gut says it warms up a day and then goes right back into the freezer and it's really been the consistent temps.

  40. Getting a little icy on the blacks and thighs getting a bit tired. Gonna try to find somewhere to xc and then I'll come back here later and Alpine. They have some surprisingly large terrain features on Delaware. Woods are skiable but there is a lot of logs and low branches except off Delaware which is pretty good actually. Zero lines since they opened the 2nd quad including the Tomahawk express, they are doing a good job pairing up groups on there. Most people I have talked too are here from NJ or Long Island where they claim 2 ft of snow.

  41. Nicely groomed with some fresh on top, still coming down, Shawnee is blowing too despite wind at top. Not crowded. Both quads and one of the double doubles running, 100% trails open. Successfully used Indy pass for the 1st time (lol). Renegade courderoy was untouched but a little slippery.
