We thought yesterday was going to be a decent day, but ended up sucking with the wind and visibility. Didn’t have high hopes for today but it was awesome. Northern aspects had a lot more wind deposited snow than the 3” reported. I even managed face shots below the experts chutes. 5 days of sun, one day of storm skiing, and a surprise “pow” day was a great way to end it. Now at the mangy getting numb.12 points

At least 6 untracked pow runs today..maybe 8 if you count shallow pow..a few groomers..zipping through singles lines, meeting a single mom, pow wow..Atomic Jeff still having white shit in his beard in the parking lot..face shots...first civilian gondola again..being watched on the webcam..$22 bacon steezeburger @ the mangy moose came with free pickle..frozen face top of sublette..and took some pictures today. 7 days at Jackson hole including first three days and four nights here with NMSki...no falls, only yelled at by ski patrol once but he was stern. Saw a guy in line at thunder get his pass scanned by the yellow jackets but I flew by them a half dozen times today no cap was low key speeding in a Whoa zone..No falls on ice in town either...still a few walks around town left to prob jinxed myself..and so many good songs waiting for the gondola..my favorite was probably Wilson Phillips,”Hold On”..that song hits hard..has me feeling some type of way.9 points

Why in the fuck are they given a whole day off to celebrate Chinese New Year? I think a nice respectful social media post would have sufficed.7 points

Was just about to post. Conditions were fantastic today and Razors was probably the best it has ever been. I also thought Sidewinder was fantastic. I'm not sure I have seen that many people on a Tuesday morning, though. The line was nuts but the longest wait we had was maybe 3-4 minutes. The VIP line looked massive but went by quickly and was a time saver compared to the general public. They had the maintenance cart on the rope for the 6er doing work throughout the morning so I'm glad to hear that it is up and running. Saw three ambulances comes in and out while packing up. Must have been wild out there. It was nice of the sun to come out and when we were getting ready to head out there was a military chopper flyover done to celebrate how good of a month of skiing we had before this upcoming rain storm. Barb sure knows how to celebrate the good conditions!7 points

That's almost identical to yesterday and like 6 other mornings, I can think of two that were worse. The quad line backs up onto the trail as the line itself can't hold that many people past the gate and even more so as it only has 5 or 6 gates. Half the time a decent number of people in the vip line are actually waiting for the pleeb gates. In the sixer you wait past the gates, quad before. We waited maybe 5 mins max on that particular run but you did absolutely have to have a season pass. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Snow on razors first run was best of the year so far, skiing in a dream kinda snow where your doing exactly what you want without feeling like your trying at all. Challenge was nearly as good and I love the little ledge on the left side to hop off of. Switch, Side, Main all of it was pretty much hammer down let it rip super snow. I had to do work sadly but these are the days I'll wish I stayed all day in July.6 points

Quick jaunt by the state game lands off 322 between Brickerville (501) and Cornwall (72) on this sunny afternoon. I drove through here numerous times the past few weeks and noticed how much snow was still there as of yesterday on this north side of the ridge. Lebanon valley got a lot more snow than us here on the other side in Lancaster county and it seems to have not melted as much especially on this ridge in the valley 322 goes through. Driving from home there is basically no snow except from piles or drifts and I was beginning to think I'd be hiking but sure enough as soon as you roll through to the other side of this ridge holy smokes it's winter again. More snow here than in Stroudsburg. I made my way up the hill following some footsteps and deer paths to the Horshoe Trail but the trail itself running along the top was melted out in the middle from exposure and foot traffic. Snow disappeared as soon as you get tocoming over to the South side, really night and day demonstration of the north face effect. Brush was pretty heavy in spots it was a good thing I was wearing work pants and gaiters, had to sit on me bum a few times to check my speed with not enough room to maneuver. Trees had been thinned out towards the bottom and I found some remnants of logging roads then which were quite a bit better.5 points

Lift lines were pretty Epic for a Tuesday morning. The issue seemed to be people thinking that the vip line was the singles line. We bounced back and forth between quad and doubles til about 10:30, then when we realized that the bulk of the “vip” line was people without season passes, started to strategically maneuver through the line and never took more than 5 minutes after that. Razors, paradise, widow maker, and lazy were possibly the best snow I’ve skied them with all year. It was awesome to ski razors at 100% and know your edges were gonna grip no matter how hard you pushed. Don’t get to do that too often, given that I don’t run a 3° side bevel like AtomicSkier Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

Picking up the slack here. Thought I saw JL, BenM and Toast, probably others. Cloudy and cold to start with, but the sun came out around 10. Everything in very good shape with the quad running. Challenge was smooth, Razors was great without any marbles. Third run down, the lift line was beyond the gates, so next run headed over to Main St. Didn’t notice any major stoppages on the quad. Main St., Widowmaker and switchback were in excellent condition, but things started backing up on the double chair. After a couple of runs they started up the second double chair, which helped for a while, but then started backing up again, so I headed out. The six pack was just starting when I left at 10:45. Things look pretty crowded on both lifts now on the WebCam.4 points

I heard the take a load off Annie song multiple times, the acoustic version of Eleanor Rigby twice and shakedown Street at least a half dozen times. I thought they started playing 90s music here as I heard Breakfast at Tiffany’s but it was coming out of somebodies portable speaker in the lift line. I’d rather have breakfast in the Blue mountain parking lot than at Tiffany’s...word Lyfe!!4 points

I guess I should login a but more often to see if anyone else might be here. I arrived last night and we went searching for good snow. Not much pictures today. Central Chute wasn’t good but I don’t think it was bad. the snow on this section (trail name evades me) under tram I thought was pretty good thanks to wind buffing. Interesting to see what the rest of the week has to offer.3 points

Wilson. We had been alternating between Wilson and the Juicy but today was 2x Wilson.3 points

im not saying it didn't eventually get too bad. what i mean is that we are in that line and it probably took just over 5 min. same with every other run until we left. ie. that photo ≠ bad.3 points

Im a firm believer in the fact that pretty much anything can be fixed, it just depends upon how much money you want to spend. I would agree that the drive is fine, and they need to basically start from scratch on the wiring and sensors. I am sure they tinker with this thing over the summer, replace this little part, and fix that little connection, but like you said, its operation is affected by the cold. So over the summer, when they do tinker with it, it runs fine, and everybody thinks it will be fine come ski season. Time to go to the manufacturer and get help with making it run. open up the wallet, i mean, spend some of that upcoming revenue they will receive from that paid parking.3 points

Yesterday was the fifth bluebird ski day in a row..it was a bit like groundhogs day..freezing cold down low, mild on the upper mountain. A lot of groomers off the sublette and thunder lifts and even a groomed Slalom run. Moderate weekend crowds but no real liftlines. Last night we had some trouble finding supper. First the brewery had a 20-25 minute wait for a table and I didn’t want to wait that long so went to Pizzeria Caldera which was closed then restaurant by the cowboy bar was closed and snake river grill closed. We ended up getting a table at Gather which was very good and we chatted with the couple from Mississippi who was at the next table who just wrapped up a conference and serious wining and dining at the Four seasons. This morning we had a little more moxie with snow falling. My walk to the bagel place was downright balmy as it was almost 20 degrees vs -10 and below previous days. We left for the hill at 7:55am and parked right in front in the village lot and were second and third people in the singles line of the gondola. Skied Ampitheater to thunder which had like an inch of new pow wow..Toast would have called it 2”..to the Thunder lift and wow was it windy at the top of Thunder. Down grand which was treacherous..hard to ski and barely any fresh at all..mostly frozen cord. Sublette and the Tram were closed. The cat track back to thunder had bad visibility. Up thunder again and took second entrance into Amphitheater via Jerry’s way which had some of the deepest new snow..maybe 2-3” perd so Toast and Jack Frost would have called it 4-5”..pleasant conditions and back to the Thunder lift for a third ride up and a few chairs behind us they stopped loading the Thunder lift. The same run again and then across to the Casper lift which had a moderate liftline and this was the first day Casper was running this trip. Got some stash park freshies and up casper again for a second round of stash park freshies then up Teton lift which had pretty bad snow up there just very skied off with all the traffic. I do think this new snow will groom out well and the winds should deposit the new snow to places like 10 sleep bowl and below the expert chutes. While early in the trip lacked new snow, it’s easy to take for granted perfect visibility..today’s visibility meant more turns in areas I usually let the skis run so was a good workout. Nice lunch at the four seasons and Atomic Jeff enjoyed a couple of $27 Old Fashioned cocktails. I wasn’t up for drinking so had Diet stoke, chili and a philly wagyu sang. Today was alright, wasn’t the best, wasn’t the worst but we lucked out getting a bunch of laps in before lifts started going down.3 points

Upper Toll Road is closed but I skied parts of the bottom onto the Toll House lift. I agree, it's a nice relaxing nature "walk" and I made it a point to ski there at least once this trip. Last time I skied down there after a snowstorm and there was still untracked snow on groomed runs - though not crazy fun due to the low pitch. Cliff Trail was pretty icy since they haven't groomed it. Thanks for reminding me it's an option to get back to Mansfield side - I keep hoofing it on the flat part near the base and it's exhausting. Crowds are super low, I've never waited more than a minute for lift or gondola ride after opening.2 points

This is the way, Stowe maybe has the best breakfast places in skiing though the Ritz at Northstar is at least as good. No shame in that sometimes it's absolutely brutal but Steep is free on Amazon and Doug Coombs in it describes it best as skiing on the trees. It's what makes the east the east. Did you ski toll road ? The chair down their is slow but that and great eastern at killy are some of my favorites. Long, mostly flatish, winding stand on your skis nature walks through the woods. Upper Perry Merril or Cliff trail whichever is the crossover from the goody to 4runner is sometimes the most technical skiing on earth it's gets hyper beat. How are the crowds ?2 points

Yes, usually the VIP line alternates with the plebes, so it moves much faster. Got on the short Burma Chair line to avoid the really long Main Street chair line. Didn’t notice that they started running the Burma chair at reduced speed. Boy, was that a long chair ride. 9 minutes.2 points

FKNA way to slut it up !!!! Sometimes wind is your best friend, it can move way way way more snow than it can ever snow in a day. Killer fucking trip ! Super jelly but way to get the whole smorgasbord of possible good conditions.2 points

Seemed like the poconos got skunked, and I didn't have the time to venture into the majestic mountains of New York or New England, so we undertook a mission a little closer to home. After digging through the NELSAP archives and the be-all-end-all of information that is Facebook, @GSSucks and I set our sights on Snow Bowl, a defunct ski area about an hour from NYC in northern New Jersey. I left home around 5:30 with a friend and we met @GSSucks about 2 hours later where he was pulled off on the side of the rode like a creeper. Car said 5°, weather app said -6° wind chill. Fueled by rice crispy treats and coffee, I booted up and we started our ascent. Minor wrong turn took us into what might have formerly been a snowmaking pond. Luckily it was all dried up, but it made for a spicy descent with skins on and heels loose. After we found the trail again, the uphill was relatively easy and uneventful. No one else was there, so @GSSucks set the skin track and we tried to keep up. Once at the top, one could theoretically see the NYC skyline, or at least the old trail map says so, but I saw no buildings. Oh well, the snow was good and we had it all to ourselves. We transitioned from uphill to downhill mode and took our first lap. Top 1/3 was a little scrapey and wind blow, but once the pitch kicked up and we got a little farther down the hill, the snow in the loosely spaced trees was great. Probably about 5-6", with some deeper pockets from drifting. We did four laps in total, for just shy of 1500 vert, with our last run having the best snow of the four. At under 2 hours from home, it's a great option for me when coastal storms skunk the Poconos but deliver farther east.2 points

Yup, right by a school. I don’t think you’d be able to see it from any highway, as it’s not that big and the trails are really not that wide as you can see in my photos. It’s part of Mahlon Dickerson preserve, so yes they do trail maintenance. There are trails in there that people bike, though I don’t think there’s an actual bike park, technically. Do you blame them though? It wouldn’t make too much sense to run and staff both lifts midweek unless the demand is there, which it doesn’t seem like it is. You can’t just “flip a switch” and turn a lift on. If the quad goes down it’s going to take at least a half hour to open the 6er assuming they even have the staff of to do that, which negates your second point of the salary savings the bigger issue is the fact they keep opening a lift with known issues, all (assuming) to be centered around the fact it provides direct access to their “new” trail they highly advertised at the beginning of the season, if the situation was flipped and they weren’t running the quad people would bitch they have to hike to get to the new trail2 points

Lol that’s when I was eyeing the nylon fence and contemplating whether or not I can limbo. I was halfway up the corral. Then it started again. The trash clean up crew was coming down and they did a fine job . No cans or crap leftover. Decided to run up for a morning session hoping for 3hrs but work world found me and only managed an hour. I wanted to see what the Freefall bumps look like in the morning. Ok but the light was flat on skiers right and was some ice lurking and it was scraped down a bit. I was planning on a return this evening but work killed that idea $&@“$!!!. So I went home and drank some beer. “ Double Blizzard “2 points

Fun morning skiing with @Johnny Law today...Didn't take long for Razors and Challenge to get some mini marbles up top...Lower sections had very nice cord...Main Street was in fine shape.....Switch and Side had some crumbs on them but skied great...I suck at skiing and just about ran out of talent a few times trying to keep Law in sight...Big thanks for waitin for me at the lift... As soon as the quad stopped the second time the line just exploded...After JL left I took a couple of laps on the double chair(which hardly had any wait time)...Sun,skiing and some slightly warmer temps made for a great morning at Blue...Tomorrow am will be good...2 points

Yo yo! Thought I'd throw it back and write up a TR for today, 1/31. My first year with a BC pass has been incredibly fun, and quite possibly reignited my love for skiing. Being 45 minutes away is a game changer, I'm able to rack up the midweek days now after work with ease. I'm on day 7 - probably the most I've skied in one season, since my last season in VT (2012)...so the most I've skied in 10 years! I would like to get a blue pass again just to avoid the shitshow on weekends and get longer runs, but I think I'll keep BC as my midweek home from here on out. It's just too close to not. I decided this year to fully dive right back into park skiing. It's been kinda rough at first, but now I'm finally feeling good and confident again. Just doing simple tricks and hot lapping the park leaves me with plenty of stoke to get me through the week. I 100% am skiing for me right now and it's an absolute blast. Onto the TR...today was probably the best conditions of the year (in the park), by far. I did my standard warmup, B-lift to the family park for some safety tricks and safety meetings (hike that for ~10-15min), sample the grizzly bumps, then back over to kodiak/black bear for the remainder of my session. Bottom half of the bumps were crusty, but the lower half were still OK with tasty stashes...firm, but tacky. Kodiak/BB is running great right now, the new setup after the hip is very fun and flowy. Basically like a skatepark out there, which is perfect for me. Lips were unlike anything I've ever seen at BC and the park crew has been putting in major work to keep everything fresh. I could do without the stepdown/sharp kink rail (my skis could too), and I wish they'd make the first jump longer (at least 2 lip options) with all the speed you can carry there. But those are minor quirks that I don't mind much at all. With that said, cascade is not the best, and kinda like a timewarp...that curve box, 5ft high lips onto things, etc. I hope they improve that setup...seems kinda phoned in. I am enjoying my family park/bumps warmup though, just would be nice to have better jib variety for a run or 2. There is only one good rail, but it doesn't warrant skipping Kodiak. Overall...coverage is great, snow quality is great, it didn't even look like BC out there. 10/10 on the JADIP scale. BTW...If you see me, come say hi! I've been skiing solo weekdays anywhere from 2-4pm until 6-7pm. Green camo-ish jacket, black helmet, blue/fire goggles, khaki pants, bright red fulltilt boots, line chronics with bright orange bases:2 points

Today was a wild one. Wind was pretty rowdy at the base, and we heard 50+ mph at the top of the tram. We got to the top of the gondy and it was insane. Shit blowing everywhere. Our first run down Amphi was pretty nice. Vis was meh at best, but snow was soft. Lifty told us Tram and Sub were already on wind hold. Top of thunder it was blowing sideways at probably 35+ mph. We managed to get 3 runs off north facing stuff on Thunder before they shut it down a few chairs behind us. North facing aspects were holding a creamy 2", but everything else was wind scoured. With Tram, Sub, and Thunder down, over to Casper we went, which had a 5 minute line when we showed up, but due to winds, they were running it at 1/2 speed so the line grew quickly. Few runs over there before heading over to Teton, which had no lines. Even the Sweetwater gondy was down for winds. A random shot of GSS without his hands up for once.2 points
