  1. Diner said it open at 6 so we went at 7 and it was closed. Snowden dropped a pot of coffee at the door step via text which was nice. Magic is fantastic. On the hill at 9:05 with thin hero snow. Half groomed and found myself looking for ungroomed. Ton a fun picking through and skiing in grass. BLT add chicken and avocado with a Fiddlehead for lunch. No lines and empty bar. West side just opened so couple more laps in the rain then headed north.

  2. Proper fucking night with the lads, bashing gates and drinking beers. Conditions for a perfect warm weather night were good and everyone was throwing down. Props gotta go to mbike though for qualifying for nationals and to Glenn for finding his goggles and someone else's. I spent a ton of time in the park at bear so maybe I'm biased but I say they have the best lodge game in PA.

  3. Took off just before lunch and arrived at Catamount around 3. Hopped on the quad shortly after and stayed on that side. Everything open had good coverage but the only double black open was Lynx. Bunch of kids showed up after school but it was ski right on every time. Tried to grab an appetizer and a beer but they didn’t have a bar open. We didn’t pull the trigger on $14.50 for fingers and fries either so we headed to Londonderry. 2 hour winding drive and quick stop at the motel. First time a place just left our key on the bed and door open. Tried to grab food but most places close at 8 and only had 2 options for places open until 9. Drove to Jake’s and it was closed, tried the place at Seesaw and they had a private event and said no. Grocery store said open until 9 but when we got there they had a sign saying 8 and we had 10 minutes. Doubling all the recommend times for the Hot Pockets and Taquitos because this microwave looks barely a step above an easy bake oven. My favorite part of the day is the Motel rents land in sign hell. 13 signs telling me what I can and can’t do in the room, 7 in the parking lot. It’s pretty impressive and laugh every time I find a new one. There’s even is a sign that says call restaurants to see if they’re open because every place is closed. Skiing Magic tomorrow then headed to Stowe. Stowehof called and downgraded my Mountain View room. Sad. Supposed to give 20% off because of it but they better still have the wedding 10% on top. Might try to get a gift card out of it but I’ll take that to the Stowe thread.

  4. Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 830 and it was 45 degrees under cloudy sky’s. In the house were BenM, Slim, Gary, Oz, Drew and Donnie. First civilian quad and I began on Razors and razors was tops..maybe the best of the season..so smooth and super edgeable cord..I mainly skied Razors with a run on Main Street but getting there and back was slow. Sidewinder was also super nice hero snow and Coming soon was sweet semi spring snow...managed 8 quick runs in an hour and 20 minutes with one long quad stoppage. Due to the ominous forecast there were a lot less people than a normal weekday morning and the longest liftline was maybe 15 chairs. JADIP

  5. Lots of fun last night skiing Macungie’s best ski area. Conditions were surprisingly great even with the warmer day. @Mixilplix sorry I didn’t text. We didn’t wrap up until 9 and wasn’t sure how long we’d be around. Probably should have just sent you a text to let you know that anyway. My apologies.

  6. A girl doesn’t usually get excited about 4”, but since we haven’t had snow here in over 30 days it was very nice! The usual non existent crowds here on a weekday, got in line for the Silver Queen at 8:47 and was 3rd chair. They groomed Paradise Bowl, which I was surprised. No matter, the few fresh inches were a welcome change from the usual hard pack conditions. Few runs off Paradise then headed to East River. Good conditions down there too. Forgot to post this gem from the other day More snow on the way next week!

  7. "Convenience store" is just a code word for Dollar General. You know a D Gen is coming to covered bridge road. You'll be able to see the yellow logo from the Blue mountain peak.

  8. I love how the indy pass has PASRs visiting new and exciting places, and writing TRs about them so others can read about said new and exciting places. The indy is out there fighting the good fight. Love that.

  11. https://www.skimag.com/news/vail-resorts-record-ski-passes-overcrowding/?utm_source=ski+magazine&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=8db3dd42-0f9f-412a-90e9-f910517a3fde https://unofficialnetworks.com/2022/02/14/aspen-announces-surprise-raise/ I can’t find the Arapahoe Basin article right now but that one outlines how they lowered the number of season passes sold to preserve the skier experience. The current Vail business model is not sustainable. I read how they eliminated a lot of on mountain managerial positions and centralized it to corporate HQ in Broomfield. So they are applying a one size fits all model to snowmaking, terrain opening etc. I feel if Vail insists on paying slave wages that are a joke for mountain towns, they need to provide some sort of employee housing or stipend.

  12. Hey All, It’s almost another weekend, is anybody planning on skiing Blue mountain the true mountain this weekend? Looks like a return to winter weather and the snow is gonna be fast.

  15. I’d rather keep Sidewinder as a ski trail than get Nightweaver back. I love both options, but they need a full size park and would rather they take Nightweaver

  19. Even though Pitkin County has a mask mandate, I was very happy to see that about 70% of people, including a majority aspen employees, were completely ignoring it. Only time I’ve been asked to put on a mask was walking from the front door of the lodge to my table, where I was allowed to take it off. Pretty amazing that some people actually think Covid knows when you are eating and won’t infect you. Hopefully Fauci, plus any politicians and doctors who supported social distancing, mask mandates, vaccine mandates, and shutdowns end up in prison for the death and destruction they have caused. They are monsters and scumbags who deserve to suffer for the rest of their lives

  26. The lines came from selling 71% more Epic passes than last season. Anyone who bought a pass in Southeast PA and New Jersey/New York area and aren't going on a trip out West or to New England are showing up at JF/BB on the weekend. True; there's global labor shortage. But Vail isn't paying the going rate at any of their ski areas nation wide. While every business around has had to increase wages to get people to work for them Vail didn't increase wages until the season was half over and that was too late. I guess it wasn't in their algorithm budget out there in Broomfield. It also wasn't in their algorithm that if you increase sales by 71% you also have to increase capacity.

  27. Vail is trying to run all of their resorts from a big chair in Colorado. They lack understanding of local markets. Tubing is huge in the Poconos. I get having labor issues, but they are missing out on a huge market. They left a whole big bag of money on the table, then slid it over to Blue Mountain, and said "here, we dont want this. But if you know anybody that wants to buy a season pass to 40 usually overcrowded mountains with lift and snowmaking issues, let us know, ok?" @EdBacon i cant for the life of me figure out where all of the people are coming from that ski JFBB either. I have never seen crowds like this, and it seems they are giving less of a product from when i skied there. 2 years ago i would have bet money they would at some point quit running BB. Peak may have had their issues as well, but they were never shy on running lifts to keep lines down, or snowmaking at every opportunity early season.

  28. WTH, no report today? I have to leave one, if only to send deserved praises to management for running both express lifts after 10am and leaving TCS nicely groomed for mere mortals like myself. It's the number of lifts and runs I could make that are responsible for the speedy part. Slow was the snow. IDK what was that, freshly blown snow on top of the groomed surface, me being lazy and not waxing the night before, temperatures or something else, but it felt slooooooow. Other than that - great day!

  29. I'd call snow conditions loose granular. Grippy for the most part. All things considered...a solid 7.9 out of 10 on the Dom scale. Skied right onto the 6 pack. Hopefully stays that way. Beautiful evening

  32. Hey! I skied this AM. I pulled into Jeff's spot, next to Steeze's car and hit the quad starting at 9:30am. Skied for 2 hours then had an 11:30am call which I took from the lot. Solid morning. Challenge and Razors was awesome. Coming Soon was fun but I loathe the barrier. Main Street was great but only did it once because I was low on time. Sidewinder had some brown spots on it. Will definitely be waxing my skis tomorrow night to make it speedier. Interesting afternoon though. After skiing, I stopped at the Apple store in Ardmore to get my airpods fixed. As I walked in, I saw a red head dude and felt like I knew him from somewhere.... This was my face when... I learned it was Rupert Grint (aka, Ron Weasley). I think he's in Philly for a new movie with M. Night Shyamalan. The last "celebrity" I saw in Philly was (a) Gritty and (b) The Scrub Daddy who was on shark tank. 😂

  35. Sno Trail Map See #26 on the linked map. The problem with half pipes in the east is that the thaw freeze cycles kill the rims and they usually just turn into ice chutes.

  36. NMDW is my fav trail, so its unlikely i would bitch much about losing any other trail. I was never like, yippee we get sidewinder back. Not sure why, i mean NMDW and side both have turns, which i like trails that turn, but, and this is probably another happy accident on Blues part, but NMDW just flows so well under speed. I would trade coming soon for NMDW. yes, coming soon is cool, the trench is badass, natural bumps are where its at, but ehh, i dont know.......maybe the new trail smell is starting to wear off. if vail is nothing else, they are very safety conscious. or, terribly afraid of being sued, take your pic. Taking the sign for risk it down sort of fits in with what they have been doing with renaming trails and whatnot, and i mean, if you are going to have a trail sign, its sort of inviting people to ski it, and risk it was very seldom skiable, and for what it was, a little dangerous. It doesnt sound like the glades and off trail stuff at Frost are what they were years ago. I would have to assume Marks Way has been taken down too.

  38. Looks like tubing is out at JF. They never set up any guns there. One Park is still in opening day mode. Just a handful of rails. Still no jumps up. Conditions were bad last weekend. Icy and scratchy. With BB park and Freedom both officially gone, along with the plaza, this looks to be the real end of the BB parks era. Question now is can Vail run JF/BB as tiny family hills. It's somehow still more crowded than I've ever seen it. Although that might just be bad lift management. Usually one or more lifts aren't spinning, even on busy weekends.

  39. Taking them out is fine, but if they’re in, they should be snug with blue loc-tite put on the threads first so they don’t rattle themselves loose. Same goes for cuff alignment bolts. Ask me how I know… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  41. Patrol are out sledding themselves around and blowing whistles. Almost like a train pulling into the station. Another patrol sled train was chanting things. I'm wondering if that's because it's a full moon tonight? Interesting Razors is closed btw. Maybe the only bummer of the evening

  43. Did a tour up Snodgrass this morning. Shedding layers early on and at 5 degrees in the sun it felt very warm. went about 1.5 miles up, realizing the snow was complete shit, we turned around. It was total boiler plate ice. Made me realize how good the mountain is doing with what they have. Overall a gorgeous morning, the sky couldn’t get any bluer. My goal today was to get some cardio in and mission accomplished.
