  1. Fantastic morning so far. Felt parched so needed to hydrate. I’ll post a report sometime later. Low crowds. Great snow. Happy Sunday!

  4. Up at 0 dark thirty, no big surprise there, to finish packing, shower, egg sangwich, peruse the musings of PASR and make ready for next awesome ski adventure for the upcoming week. Will be off to meet with Slim, Donny, Rick for the ride over to Newark and a straight shot into Bozeman. Looking like a great day to fly and hoping that the airlines think so too. Stay tuned for further updates...

  5. Minnewaska SP 2/2722 Last night I was searching for some favorable XCD conditions within day trip distance and was coming up empty when I stumbled on a decent snow report for Minnewaska SF XC trails. After some communication and navigational challenges got on the snow solo around 10:30. Some guidance in the parking lot had me on my way to the Castle rock trail on the skinny NNN setup, great fast snow, bright sun, mid 30’s and a breeze (quite stiff on the return NW exposures). As an intermediate at best classic skier it was cool watching the skater boiz and girlz fly by me. I had never really skate ski’d and worked on it for a while until the ball of my right foot and arch objected , I even passed some little kids lol Such a cool place with endless vistas of cliffs, hills and the mountain (Bearpen?)to the north. Ended up doing almost 9 mi for a great loop, hopefully not the last hurrah.

  6. In the first run I knew I had to turn off my usual wtf meter. I was a guest in a foreign land, they were kind and although their customs seemed strange to me they couldn't be less threatening, the delta was so high at half speed it was nothing but orange cones everywhere. Most are well aware of my love of weird old equipment and it's like no place I've seen. The individual foot snowboards, lots of blades, 220 straight skis but the kicker was this dude. I spotted the zero tail fast, assumed logically he had broken them somehow. Yet his suit was HH and was skiing on a icon pass with his dad who had one of the big super soft soli pow skis for gapers. This was no accident, for some reason this was done on purpose. Was he a raxer from the Alps who got lost ? I maneuvered my way to be the single next to them so I would have time to conduct a thorough investigation. I buttered him up with bs about the day and then went for the kill. This madman bought the skis, picked out bindings and had them mounted then promptly took them home and cut as much tail as humanly possible off with a band saw. He was of the opinion that the tail of the ski was a detriment to skiing and had been doing so since learning as a child. He had been all over with his family, somehow taming big sky/ut/VT on 90cm length skis all up front. I only saw him ski 300ft at like negative pitch but he left a ww1 style trench giving a new definition to tail gunning. It was one of the most and least impressive thing I've seen in snowsports. It's like someone cutting both their legs off to become a better marathon runner.

  8. Day 6, solo skiing with groomers in mind since my legs just arent as fresh as they could be. Small crowd to start, which i thought would be the theme of the day. 2 laps on International with some nice fresh cord. A lap on Paradise, then i made the decision to see if East River was cooperating, which it was. I talked with some type of employee on one lift ride that said a groomer hit one of the East River towers Thursday night which caused it to be closed Friday, i saw a groomer toting a welder down to it at one point, and then it was just a little pissed off on Saturday, i think they were able to run it, but not full speed. East River is a nice area, and has some great trees, so of course i couldnt resist. Made the best of the trees, even though it probably wasnt too pretty, but we just dont get to ski decent stuff off trail at Blue enough, so its hard to pass up. Went to eat when the lift lines started getting a little longer then normal at noon, odd thing was, the restaurant was empty. Ran some groomers from the base after lunch, alternating between silver queen and red lady, depending on the line situation. The Teocali lift was down for maintenance the past two days. no big deal, as that lift really doesnt go anywhere i was concerned with, but on the lift ride with the CB employee, who i think was an instructor, eluded to the fact that "maintenance" was code word for "lack of employees". Im not super happy with Vail, i just dont like their business model, and what they are doing to skiing in general. i feel like Vail just wants to show the skiing public who is boss. I like to think Vail has fucked up Crested Butte the least of all its resorts. We will see. I never saw "epic" lines when i was here, but Barb says things have picked up over the past 2 years here.

  9. Good news is Barbs knee is feeling better, but unfortunately not able to make it out today. Went out with Barbs friend Ilise, and despite the fact she snowboards, she pretty much kicks butt. So yesterday the East River lift was closed, and with a little bit of snow that fell the night before, we heading right there, since that was going to have the best snow. When we got down there, the lift was stopped. we were there long enough to click out, as the lift was doing a start/stop kinda thing for a while before it did get going at slow speed. good news, cause theres no way out of there without hiking up a ways to the Paradise lift. It stopped once or twice on the ride up, after we passed a guy up on one of the towers, so we bailed on staying in that area for fear of getting stuck down there. Skied a little bit of trees, but at this point my legs arent going to put up with much more of that. Stuck to some groomers after that. got pretty crowded, it is after all, a weekend. Stopped at Uley's Cabin, as they were celebrating Uleys birthday, who is supposed to be 107 years old. Had a bowl of Elk Chili and a beer, which got us some tickets for the raffle of a snowboard. I didnt win, and i wasnt too disappointed, i mean, who needs one of those things anyways? Nice pit stop with some good views. The Spice Girls showed up. There were four of them in total. Random tree pics.

  10. Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived in the lower lot at 720am and it was in the low to mid 20s under sunny sky’s. In the house were Atomic Jeff, Dirt Wolf, benM, Enjorales, Pops, Mute, Boo bear, The Real KT, Mixilplix, Bethlehem Ford Guy, Spyder, TP4, VTMark and many others. First run on challenge was decent, second run on challenge was ok and then I watched that run turn to marbles. Main Street was decent with new manmade, I did lazy mile a few times cause the PASRs we’re enjoying it. One quad ride to coming soon and it was slick..slippery and shiny..Paradise was decent and I even smoked a run down nightmare to dreamweaver and it was the mini cookies...not very good. A fun parking lot and Enjorales grilled up various types of sausage, pork loin and even made Philly cheese steaks..Wiz Wit for me..yes made to order. All in all a fun session and I think I even got some color today or at least some Red...hard to believe it’s basically March now..we need to milk the rest of the skison.

  11. Late start arrive 10:45 they got about 8” of fresh but had some FR on top I heard it was heavy yesterday. Today’s cooler temperatures made it perfect. Some nice bumps on Plunge I stayed on the double chair till after 2. I skied Blockbuster quite a few runs . They left a 7’ high whale up top witch I had to appease the little kid in me and go over the top . I lost some Ptex on Twist . It was thin in places but overall a pretty nice day. First picture, trail to the right of the lift is “Freefall” roped off but poachers carved it up.

  14. Interesting, the basin side is like 800/900 vert but only one or two moderately steep spots of like 300ft. It's filled to the gills with noobs, like salty would be a golden God. The village is impressive considering its location, driving here is classic WV, nothing but trees and rocks. It looks more like great wolf lodge than a ski lodge but the restaurants are good and everyone is like in the south nice. There is an expert pod that is actually across the street from basin called western territory that is like skiing another mountain. You start at the top, there is a road across the entire Ridge with basin on one side and this 3 trail expert pod is on the other. You ride a lift up ski 50ft across the top take you skis off cross the street and then put them back on and ski down the hill. Two trails there have some nice steep maybe like 200ft more vert than blue but not as sustained pitch. It's kind of a weird place and at first the noob thing is annoying they stop the lifts alot and some of the cross overs are absolutely littered with people down. The upside is they are super friendly and all super stoked about everything. If I was in the area for something I would come back it's a slightly bigger blue but it has some charm in its weirdness. Lots of custom stuff on the hill like these pro models.

  16. Fun morning today...Rode the quad exclusively and worked my way east to west then back...Wind really picked up as the day went on and made Tutts a bit of a chore...TCS was pretty slick so only did that once....Even a marbled up Challenge was fun..Only ever waited a few minutes in VIP line at the quad... @enjoralas all of your delicacies were on point today....The cheese steak was delicious...

  17. A buried set of steps going up two the second floor deck. The lodge has 3 levels gives an idea of how steep the mountain is. That’s what makes it a great place to ski powder. Crazy parking lot carved into the side of the mountain . All the Catskills was out of power that day and the word got out Plattekill was open. It was their busiest day in there history. With all the snow it was difficult to move around outside the lodge. If you stepped off the packed snow you got stuck up to your waist. People were flailing about, it was comical. Skiing stuff that deep was challenging for experienced skiers but beginners were toasted. I was halfway down a slope and saw a ski pass me slowly following a ski track and bury itself 50’ from me. I looked uphill , about 100yds up a little girl looked down and threw her arms out and fell over backwards and disappeared lol. I went over and dug her ski out and poked it in the snow tail first so she could see it. Never waited for a chair as everyone was spread out and skied slowly with the deep stuff. Took me 45 minutes to leave, there were cars parked 2 miles away from the lodge. They did a great job shutting people in and out. Great staff , they do an excellent job of herding cattle . The double chair is Expert terrain and the triple is intermediate. Loading the triple is strictly monitored, stands with a stick across the entrance to prevent any strays . A second person pairs the singles line. The employees are very polite too . I rode the triple in the later afternoon and the chair only slowed once. Very well run place! Can’t say enough about the place!

  25. On Sunday, I'm flying from PHL to Vancouver for a skication with my brother (who I learned is lurker on here 🖐️). I've skied a bunch of resorts out west but Whistler has been on my must hit list for some time now. I decided to go with an Epic Pass this season solely to explore Whistler. I kind of thought with the hoops, testing requirements, etc - it would limit some American tourists from going to Whistler this year. Hoping by going to Canada and skiing midweek, the crowds will be mild and the snow will be good. 🤞 This is my rough agenda. Day 1 Sunday Feb 27 ✈️Arrive in Vancouver + shuttle to Whistler. Day 2 Monday, Feb 28 Ski at Whistler Day 3 Tuesday, March 1 Ski at Whistler Day 4 Wednesday, March 2 Ski at Whistler Day 5 Thursday, March 3 Ski at Whistler. 4pm shuttle to Vancouver. Explore the city. Day 6 Friday, March 4 Explore the city. Day 7 Saturday, March 5 ✈️Depart, early 7am flight While in Whistler, I'm staying near the Whistler Village Center (near the Blackcomb Mountain Gondola). While in Vancouver, I'm likely staying at or near the Hyatt Regency (still deciding on the exact hotel). So PASR - is there anything I should specifically do or see? Any must go-to restaurants or bars?

  26. This morning, I woke up at 6:30am. Ate some leftover dinner for breakfast. Left my house at 7am and was at the baggage drop at 7:30am. I got there at the same time as the Halifax Thunderbird Lacrosse team was checking in. I listened to their stories from last night in Philly … sounds like they like to have a good time. They’re playing in Vancouver on March 5th next. I had a layover in Toronto and saw my luggage leave the plane but my luggage had other plans. It made its way on a different plane. i packed a carryon but all my ski gear is in my bag that’s definitely not here. Positively? It seems like all ski gear that went from Philly to Toronto to (what’s suppose to be) Vancouver got redirected in transit and is on the next flights. I’m on a shuttle to Vancouver. sounds like they’re going to drop my ski bag off at the hotel around 1am. (Fingers crossed)

  34. Dan out on the mountain and I wanted to snowshoe today to rest my weary legs. Headed out to Washington gulch where you snowshoe the road and after a mile or so can cut into trees. Thought that area would be safe. Avy danger marked a 4 (high) today and watching some CB avalanche center videos stuff is real reactive and unstable. Anyway, got the the TH and was the only person there and no tracks, skis or snowshoes, had been laid yet. Started out and looking at slopes to my right that normally I don’t pay attention to, looked ominous. If they slid, would probably knock me off road down other side which goes into the river. I did have my beacon on (always wear it) but was totally alone and just thought, nope, not today. Someone going to have a hard time digging out their snowmobile. So guess I am just taking a rest day. Getting a head start on making beef stew for Dan’s dinner

  36. what a day. Started off by getting a ride to the mountain from Barbs neighbor in her suburban. Reminiscent of 7 dudes and gear for the ride to Jackson, since this time i had to sit in a childs car seat. It was snowing pretty good on the ride up, it let up just a little for opening but vis was really pretty low. Snow was lighter today, and did feel like there was more than the 5-6" that was on the snow stake. i did find where the snowstake is located, and its pretty low on the mountain, so that makes sense. i ran Paradise lift for some powder turns, then in and out of some trees, big powdery bumps, really beat myself up pretty good by 10:30 when i met Barb at East River, so taking a little leg break over by the umbrella bar was welcoming. after a few runs, we took lunch at the umbrella bar, since all of a sudden the sun came out. so things went from this, to this by lunch. That was pretty short lived, as we were sitting at the umbrella bar, the wind picked up, and in the distance you could see clouds rolling in, and when we were finished lunch, it went back to this. After lunch i ran some laps off the Silver Queen, vis on the trails was poor, trees were good, but my legs started telling me it was time to go. Once i got back to Barbs, it started just dumping when we took a walk up the street into town. some other random pics from today. Forecast is 8-16" overnight.

  37. Whew, what a day! Snow cam showed about 4” overnight but it felt at least double that. Visibility was low so I headed down to East River and Dan went up to Paradise. We met up later and decided to do a few laps on the easy groomers off umbrella bar (although still lots of fresh there too). Snow was much lighter today and easier to navigate. At one point it was dumping so hard you could barely see. Then 20 min later the sun came out for a bit. Now back to cloudy and light snow. Supposed to snow all evening again. No action shots but the few pics I took. Dan still out skiing.

  39. so, 16 degrees and the snow was really heavy for whatever reason, maybe it was windblown. kind of snow where people were pretty much eating shit pretty regularly. Anyways a pretty damn nice day today all the way around. it was definitely some work to float this heavy stuff, but got actually easier to ski once it was cut up a bit. First runs for Barb and I were off Paradise bowl, and thats where i quickly found out how heavy the snow was, i skied off the groomer track and it kinda sucked me in, threw me around some, ending up skiing switch a little before i gathered things back up and got things going in the right direction again. played in some trees, but the overnight snow isnt doing tons to fill in the steeper areas which are pretty trenched out, and scrapey underneath from basically 30 days with no snow. The bumps on the trails were really better than most stuff in the trees. Barb and i split up for a few runs before meeting back up for lunch. Found some better trees around International, had no idea where i was actually going, got kinda lost, and ended up at the Umbrella bar. Managed to make it back to Paradise to meet Barb for lunch a little late. Ate lunch, Barb headed back to her place, and i was just gonna cruise a couple more trails. They had sent a couple couple bombs off earlier as they were working on the high stuff, both Tbars had delayed openings. The Tbars opened after lunch, even though i saw people standing in line before lunch. i rode the Paradise lift with an instructor who said the stuff off the high lift was kinda blown off, exposed rocks, but the stuff off the North lift was better, but still not great. i wasnt up for the line up at the Tbars, and since im solo, legs were telling me go home, so i passed on that today. Snow is supposed to continue until thursday sometime. It didnt snow too hard during the day, but looking out the window now, things have really picked up some, and its after 4 pm here, so things should get a nice refill, and we will be at it again tomorrow. pics in a few.

  40. Sweet! @toast21602- Have you ever skied to the ice cave? Good to know about Creekside and Spanky's Ladder. I've been watching the weather. Looks like wind is about 3-5 MPH and they're calling for snow, likely 1-3" most days.

  42. Later start then I wanted since we had a goodbye breakfast with the wedding crew. Got to Bolton Valley at 930, slight delay from the ticket line but on the lift by 950. Couple squalls yesterday plus wind overnight refreshed everything. Conditions were awesome. Squeaky chalk had us laying over edges with ease. Bolton had a lot of trails still closed from the melt last week but what was open had full coverage. Cobrass was closed so everything lookers right we couldn’t get to and didn’t get over to the Wilderness lift. From what we could see, it wasn’t running. Lines kept get longer after each run but the crowds weren’t Blue bad. Steeper pitches started getting scrapped off and after we did everything open, took off at 1130. Favorite runs were Vista Glades and Enchanted Forrest. Grate way to finish the trip. Stop at a farm for maple syrup in Monkton on the way out. It was an honor system store but was able Venmo the money. Surprised it wasn’t cash only but grabbed some cheese with it and happy we stopped.

  43. Diner said it open at 6 so we went at 7 and it was closed. Snowden dropped a pot of coffee at the door step via text which was nice. Magic is fantastic. On the hill at 9:05 with thin hero snow. Half groomed and found myself looking for ungroomed. Ton a fun picking through and skiing in grass. BLT add chicken and avocado with a Fiddlehead for lunch. No lines and empty bar. West side just opened so couple more laps in the rain then headed north.

  44. I got out this afternoon on my way home from work at Bicentennial Park and it was really enjoyable. I was hoping to get on the Nor-Bath trail but bozos took snowmobiles on it and dug up a bunch of gravel. I just cruised around the park in the snow. A few other tracks out there from yesterday. Lovely afternoon to be out!

  47. Catamount closer to on the way to Magic than B.East is. Catamount is also on the way to B.East. I hear Cat has been crazy busy weekends though, unlike most Indy places. West is on the way to Bolton Valley which is on the way to Jay. And B.East can be on way back from Jay for a nice loop (could throw in Cat after that too).
