  1. I’ll continue this thread with more updates from Wilmington/Lake Placid/Whiteface. March 5 to 13th. We arrived Saturday 3/5 to mid 50s and rain. It poured most of Saturday night and all Sunday. It cleared out a lot of the ground snow. Today it is quite chilly with a temp of 25 and windy. Although the sun is peeking through the clouds today. I had to work yesterday and today so no skiing reports from me today. Everyone else went out today but are all beginners so I’m excited to hear the recap of their adventures. more to come.

  2. we started taking done our "winter" decorations (10 gazillion snowmen) yesterday. I will leave the candles in the windows and frosty out front until the weekend. Will leave the chairlift lights on until closing day...

  3. Hey All, I’m back from a fun morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 830am and it was in the mid 30s under mostly cloudy sky’s with a strong breeze. In the house were Atomic Jeff, Johnny Law, Toast, Charles, Airhead, Bethlehem Ford Guy, Harold, MomSkeez, Rodney, Gary, Sebastian and a few others. First civilian quad with Airhead and down challenge which was pretty nice if you stayed in your lane with decent grooming. Main Street had the nicest snow on the hill a bit softer cord. Coming Soon was alright if you stayed on the far right side, the rest was a frozen tundra moonscape. Lazy mile was pretty smooth and Razors was surprisingly decent. Skied 8-9 runs and hungout in the lot for a few and peaced out around 1040am. Looks like a potential powder day tomorrow..JADIP.

  4. Blue showing that Palmerton moxie and powered through the rain strong. Main was legit pretty good which is very impressive given it was mesh tank tops and daiquiris 10hrs ago. Pretty much everything else looks like crap but skis OK. Side does have a stretch of chicken heads but it's the lower shade side and peeps should know. I would advise they throw a couple lollipops up above TCS, shit is unreal and as much as I would love to see someone try to ski that, the tiny circle spun backwards that says icy probably is a bit of an understatement. Toast said it best first really really shit weather and it was a solid six kind of day. Gotta give them their dues they have been turning water to wine a bit this season.

  10. kind of. i 'took them down' when i untied the rope that was strung to the tree. they were just laying in the yard since jan 15. i did bring in the rest of the shit like candy canes etc yesterday. they were sitting on the sidewalk in a pile tho since at least mar 1. the lights on the gutters are still up. part of me wants to just keep them there. it's not like anyone aside from guests or deliveries would ever see them. added photos for the evolution of the whole thing

  11. Finished up our time in Taos today and we had a great trip. Snowed 1 or 2 inches overnight which was a pleasant surprise and after 3 really warm days it was a little cooler on Friday. I skied with my kids all day Friday after they had done ski school for the first part of the week. They absolutely rip now and are going to pass me soon. Took them down Al’s run for the first time and they were both talking about how easy it was. Stepped it up after that to their first Taos double black (west blitz trees to spitfire chute to west basin) and they navigated it perfectly. 13. Skied 2 days so far at Taos and it’s been full on spring conditions, like 50 degrees. Everything has softened up at about 11 and it’s been nice. Lots of bumps so far, a couple hikes to the West Basin gnar and many Kachina laps. K4 and St . Bernard have been the best so far. A couple more days to come.

  14. https://www.bigsnowamericandream.com/ Got an Email to mark my calendar for Memorial Day weekend. The email seems to be a bit ambiguous but I’ll be happy if they open this summer. I took my son last August and had a blast, it was one of the hottest days of the year 100f when we left. Surreal going from 28f to melting outside.

  15. I had such a fun day there today. Not the best conditions, but definitely not the worst. After the 70 degrees and crazy wind and rain, they pulled it off and made some decent conditions. 👍👍

  16. Just made a Sat Nt refundable (til 4pm Friday) hotel reservation near Catamount in case the snow Saturday warrants driving up Sat AM to ski Sat PM and Sunday on my IndyPass.

  19. Please pardon my formatting and grammar. I'm posting from a phone. In the fall, I started a new job that has turned me into more of a semi-weekend warrior, for better or worse. This, coupled with a shitty snow year, has really impacted my plans to wring every dollar and then some out of my indy pass. I was able to use my two days at montage in January, and was finally able to branch out a bit in February. no trip reports from montage because they were pretty basic. random fact: this is my second year in a row of not riding a high speed lift. Greek Peak 2/5/22 This was the best day of the year. There was the gnarly ice storm in PA, but greek got 8-14 inches of the good stuff. It was interesting to see the changes on the drive up. It went from bare ground, to ice covered trees, to a ton of snow. When I got to greek it was still snowing and the roads were still covered. Last time I went to greek, I was unable to ride their longer stuff off of lift 4 and 5. And that would be the same today. They really got a late start opening the lifts, and lines started to build in an "epic" fashion on their main quad. Thankfully the double next to it and lift 3 opened shortly. Conditions could only be described as the epic that vail wishes they were. It was one of those point your board in any direction and your fine days. Fresh tracks in the glades, fresh tracks under the lifts. I even had some completely untracked trails off of lift 3 as I was one of the first people up after opening. So that was it. I rode a ton of pow, and left. And on thew way out i realized lift 5 was open (without access from lift 4) by way of a shuttle from the base lodge (not advertised). Oh well. Bosquet 2/20/22 I found myself in the Pittsfield area and knew I had to stop. Its not on the indy pass and super small, but I like the idea of checking new places out. Bosquet is operated by the berkshire/catamount people and you can tell some improvements have been implemented. This trip was right after the great new England blowtorch event so conditions were spicy. The mountain feels like a larger bear creek, with a montage-esque setting. to get onto the access road you turn right into a large shopping plaza, and there's houses and condos and whatnot. it also overlooks the city of Pittsfield and you can see the trails from many spots in the city. the parking lot is easy to get into and right off the road. The lodge is new and nice. They were using the overflow lots, however i never waited in a line. not bad for presidents day weekend. none of the trails were anything to write home about. the owners also clear cut a ton of trees (they did the same at catamount and Berkshire east) to install the new summit lift. you can tell this is causing a conditions nightmare/snow retention issue near the summit. Despite being small and not really interesting at all, I would still be psyched to have a place to go an scratch the itch right in town. If you want something better, Vermont is really close too. Mohawk 2/27/22 Mohawk is the smallest of the 3 mountains, but it was super fun. The lodge is old school, right on a large pond, and the staff was awesome. Busy day but short lines. The snow was absolutely perfect (except for one spot that looked like someone forgot to shut a hydrant off). My favorite trail was chute. it doesn't look like much going up the lift, but its narrow with some great rollers and small twists. on the lookers right of the mountain there are some short, but winding trails through pine trees at the top. Speaking of the summit, it is heavily wooded with pine trees so views are not really a thing here. Mohawk also seems to have a really large uphill following. There were multiple uphill routes with great signage, and i would see at least 10 people skinning every time I was on a lift. There was also a "mid" mountain lodge that had a lift going right over it. the only annoying thing about the day was the racer kids. I forgot how much i hate groups of racer kids. There was an entire trail closed off for them, which i understand. But they rolled in groups of over ten across the rest of the mountain, would stop in the lift lines to group up and were impossible to pass, and would just block off trails waiting for the rest of their group. Hopefully I can squeeze one more day in before the season is over. I need a miracle march to keep magic as a viable destination for my final day of the season. Hopefully the weather is better next year. on the way home i saw ski lifts that appeared to come out of nowhere. the ski area is thunder ridge NY. The photos make it look mellow, but the trails seen from the road are really steep in person, and apparently there's a whole backside and separate ridge than what's visible from the road. I am really starting to enjoy smaller areas, so i added it to my list for next season. Okay. These last two photos. The website keeps adding them to the end of the post, despite deleting them and editing multiple times

  20. Yes could have been worse. Lots of other places cams are showing translucent grass underneath. Haven’t made too many morning sessions this year but still fun. Left around 10 just as things were softening up.

  22. I read an article recently that stated that the mall was in quite a financial bind. like it had $800 in the checking account, and wasnt clear where the next payment, which seemed to occur semi annually for some reason. Not sure how that will play out for the ski joint. Here we are......https://unofficialnetworks.com/2022/02/15/american-dream-mall-home-of-big-snow-only-has-820-left-in-its-bank-account/

  25. Wasn't raining when I woke up and was expected to hold off until 9:30ish so I headed up and enjoyed a glorious morning with @JFskiDan @Dirtwolf@Johnny Law@mute1080 @boobear @theprogram4 @Benm @bethlehemfordguy and the rest of the boomers. Snow conditions were a carpet. Creamy snow all over the place and nobody there. Rain picked up around 9:30 when we retreated to the lot for a beverage. I thought I was done for the day until it stopped raining and the sun started to come out. We went back out around 10:30 and skied until 12:30ish when we could still ski onto the chair. Everything was perfect from Razors, Challenge, Sidewinder, Switchback, Main St, to Midway.

  28. Thursday, checkout was at 12 so we put the baggage in storage and went skiing. I skied my atomics and I’m glad I did. They’re a bit wider underfoot and made floating down Whistler Bowl more fun. I skied the runs off of Peak Express including Whistler Bowl and Peak to Creek. my legs were burning. On my way down from Peak to Creek I saw a lil’ reading rainbow 🌈 while @Schifis in Dubai looking for a lamp with a genie, I was looking for a pot of gold. after the top to bottom, leg burn .. I did the Whistler Bowl. It was fun but the pitch was steeper than I usually like. Glad I did it though. At one point, it was super foggy and couldn’t see anything. ROTD was Grand Finale / Doom & Gloom in Whistler bowl although I about shit my pants. Had The Rolling Stones song stuck in my head 👅 skied from morning through 3pm. I rushed down to the bottom. Freshened up. Got my bags, heated up some ‘noods, and lugged my bags to the 4pm shuttle. again, the skylynx shuttle was clean and easy. Unfortunately it was full so I didn’t love sharing a seat. the views on the drive were incredible. If I were to do it with a bigger group than just me & brother, I would definitely rent a car to see the sights along the way. got settled into a hotel near the airport. Brian’s flight was at 8:30am on Friday and mine was 7am on Saturday morning.

  31. Day 4 - Tippy top Forecast was calling for a partly cloudy and warm day today, so the plan was to hit the tram to ski something off the peak. First chair up to the tram base to get in line, but ski patrol had other ideas. With the temp drop overnight everything was locked up up top and they’re delaying open for a while. Took a few runs in the bowl to see if that would be long enough for the tram to open, but no. Headed down to Madison base for a quick lunch and decide where to try next. Decided to try out the Stillwater bowl. Up the Lone Tree lift, up a short pike and across a sketchy traverse we dropped into the bowl to finally find some firm wind-blown in snow. Very much worth the work to get there. Riding up the lift we could see people coming off the peak, so the tram must be open, so we made our way back to the tram and not too bad if a line so we queued up. Just as we got in line the wind began to howl, lovely. Tram line went quick and up to the top we went. Unfortunately no wind-up music like on the Jackson’s tram, just a ski patrol yelling out open trails down. Not sure of the snow conditions, we opted for the Liberty bowl which had good snow at the top but halfway down it turned to semi-frozen crud, still manageable and fun. Headed back around to see if we could catch one more tram and got there just in time to an empty line. Headed out the top shack heading for Lenin or Marx. Lenin was supposedly holding better snow and Marx looked crusty. Lenin also had wonderful snow ip top but increasingly getting cruddy towards the bottom but still fun to ski steeper stuff. Hot tub, beers and off to the Corral Steak House. Pretty good looking steaks at throwback saloon. Maybe some snow today. Random shot… Stillwater bowl… Peak shots… On the way to dinner… Saloon… Bourbon burger

  32. Day 3 - Even warmer Arrived at the base to partly cloudy skies and 28 degrees. Following yesterday’s warmup and puddles frozen seen in the ride over, we knew the lower half of the mountain was gii oh no to be firm. Decided to take the 8-pack out and look for some groomers on Andesite side. At the top of the lift, it looks like about an inch fell, which should make for some fine cruising, not! We couldn’t find a groomed trail over here at all, just frozen crud from yesterday. Back down to the base and up to the bowl, which should have better snow and visibility was far better than yesterday and the bowl didn’t disappoint. Lapped the bowl until everyone else on the mountain came up and the liftline became unbearable. Headed down through the woods to the one smoke shack nearby for lunch but it was occupied, so we took the Challenger back up and down to the base for lunch. After lunch we found a nice pocket of snow on Buffalo Jump but the snow has turned to mush and the run outs were becoming unbearable. Took a run down the park to check out the hump line but the snow was so slow that you could barely make it over the landing edge. Time to call it a day. Back at the house, hot tub, beers, grilled chicken & potatoes, nothing to write home mom about. Another warm one on tap for tomorrow. In the bowl… Found another one… Tagged… Chatting with Daryl…

  34. So my knee wasn’t feeling great and I went to an orthopedic guy here. I have a hairline fracture of my tibial plateau and a rather large bone bruise but all ligaments are intact (thankfully). Doc said TP fractures can be very nasty so I was lucky mine was minor. Was cleared to ride a Stationary bike so you bet my ass will be on one tomorrow. My fitness watch is already telling me I am a crusty old lady and I better step it up. Had to cancel a hut trip I had scheduled for this weekend but they were nice enough to extend a credit for next season. Will be down 6-8 weeks and start PT next week. Could have been worse, I can deal with 6-8 weeks. There might be some snow left in May for me to play on if all goes well.
