Hey All, I’m back from another fun ski day at Abasin. I arrived there at about 835am and it was 4 degrees with blowing snow and moderate winds. I picked up my pass and loaded the Black mountain express a few minutes before 9am. First run was just a mix of lower mountain Blues..groomed runs with about 1.5-2” of cold chalky pow wow. Second run was a repeat of the first as knew that lower mountain pow wouldn’t last and the good thing about those lower trails is the visibility is good as there are trees. Up black mountain express a third time and over to Lenawee, up Lenawee first half of the lift ride comfortable and second half my face froze...then took the rope row over to Montezuma bowl..I took a few pictures and with the temperature zero and real feel probably minus 10 taking off gloves to do anything was not a good plan. Top of Montezuma bowl had no visibility and areas of wind scoured ice with deep shabby snow along the snow fence. Was survival skiing but lower down was a more consistent few inches like on the front side. I then ducked into the woods for a safety break and skied to far before cutting back to the lift and did a little skinning with no skins. To be continued.7 points

The free breakfast at comfort suites in Silverthorne isn’t that good. There is sausage and ham. I’ll probably go to Einstein bagels tomorrow I can see it from my window. Laid out all my ski stuff, ABasin doesn’t open until 9am but prob get there pretty early to get a good parking place, boot up and get my ticket. Last night had japanese food..was good and I know hot and sour soup is the most gringo thing but I like it. With my Colorado mule was under $506 points

About 8 inches in town yesterday, more on the mountain, stopped about 4PM. Bluebird today, people started lining up at 8AM for a 9 o’clock opening. Parking lot pretty full when we left at 11, probably 3 or 4 times as many people as over the weekend. I stayed pretty much on the groomers, my son took his Head Kores into the good stuff under the lift and off the Wolverine bowl. Low of 20, high of 33, unlike last week’s low of 34, highs in the 60s5 points

Up the montezuma lift and the goofy patrollers said welcome to the Zumba enturo. There was absolutely nobody on the back side or Lenawee like maybe people every 20th chair. Back on the upper front face, I actually waited for a group to get in front of me because the visibility was so bad and that area is essentially tree less. Even though I was following people I got vertigo a few times. The snow was so so good packed powder or a few inches of untracked everywhere. I accidentally ended up on a bump one on one of the later morning runs and was a little icy underneath. Even the black mountain express had no lines, I didn’t even ride the lift with anybody. I didn’t go on the Pali lift, I want better Vis for that terrain..looking like I’ll be back at Abasin tomorrow again..maybe it will be a degree or two warmer and the sun will come out. After skiing i went to the mountain Lynn cafe for steak and eggs then had some edibles and a long nap and enjoying a French dip Sammy right now from Cheba hut.2 points

I just booked a trip to Lech in the Arlberg region of Austria. We picked Lech because of its central location and quieter atmosphere. As it turned out, prices were comparable to St. Anton. Will post a trip report when we go. In the meantime, I'm looking for any tidbit of info from anyone who has been.1 point

I just purchased a midweek three pack for Abasin for $239 and I added $2 for the national forest foundation for $241. You don’t have to use it consecutive days which I like. I’ll prob ski Abasin tomorrow, Friday and Monday and maybe cooper Thursday at least one weekend day at Loveland.1 point

A couple times but the conditions were not good and he didn’t have very much fun. He’s a novice and has a long way to go ability wise. We skied Bear creek a bunch the previous year. Straight lining Blue apparently is a little different 😁1 point

The drive from Idaho Springs to Silverthorne was wicked easy...it was snowing a bit but the roads were clear. I got three packages of gummies, a one gram cart and three pre rolled joints for just under $150 and tipped the bud tender a $10..gotta spread that Karma. Just Checked into Comfort Suites. Room is decent. Gonna take a low dose of the edibles and relax probably nap a bit. I left Allentown at 430am eastern and here checked in at 2pm mountain time. A whopping 11.5 hours door to door but I did stop for lunch and safety supplies. Glad to have made it here. I think I’m gonna buy a three day weekday pass for Abasin..probably use it twice this week and on Monday. Driving by Loveland the snow looked midwinter great but boy was it cold and windy. 20 degrees at the tunnel and mid 20s here in Silverthorne.1 point

Saw the surgeon last Friday and got the all clear. I consider myself pretty lucky that it was just a minor MCL sprain with no damage to the meniscus. The swelling and pain for the first couple days was wild. According to the doc most injuries like mine are healed in 3-6 weeks. I still have a bit of fluid around the MCL but nothing to worry about.1 point

Yeah, I was there once: https://www.paskiandride.com/forums/topic/19428-ski-arlberg Flew to Zurich, stayed in Warth at Airbnb about 20 mins away from the lifts. Haus Huber was like $800 for 7 nights, 2BR apartment. Warth was really quiet, but also on the outskirts, so I think while we initially planned to ski all the way to St. Anton, we realized that it was a little too far and it would really be just get-there-and-start-going-back-right-away kind of a day. We did ski their White Ring route and crossed through Lech a number of times. Liked the atmosphere there, but it was certainly not as quiet as Warth. Aside from skiing, spent half a day at St. Gallen on the way there, did a day trip to Neuschwanstein in the middle of the week and out of nowhere hit a festival in Bezau while going back to the airport. Do people think it's safe to book skiing trips abroad already? Dolomites didn't open even for one day last winter.1 point
