  1. I took a nice drive up 322 to visit a cousin at Penn State and ski Tussey. I made use of my Indy pass (finally) and with another friend we took advantage of the 2 for 1 college ticket monday which is pretty rad that they offer specials on a holiday. A bit of a line for the two lifts formed early afternoon but it was not too crazy I thought considering schools had off. Blue sky day and the sun had softened the snow up nicely except parts of the Deer Run green from the top (narrow shaded cut and the only green from the top today so it got skied off) and Upper Tuscarora (double black with massive whales they just opened for the season). The hill is actually a bit steeper than I imagined. It is a consistently steep pitch down 400-500ft under the quad. From the quad the green would be a blue and the blue a black at a lot of other PA areas. The beginner slope at the bottom is a good setup but it is really a big step up to send beginners down from the quad after that- narrow, crowded, slick and kind of steep. If they were to get that outer Lions way green open in this wacky weather that might be a better less steep next step and way to spread the traffic. They had some jumps set up at the bottom of the one blue. Classic sort of lodge with a fire and that ancient quad lift are fun. Fun place with everyone just having a good old time skiing for a few hours. That T bar straight up the side would be a wicked ride...

  2. Back at 550 with @Dirtwolf in the house. Crowd was semi still there but most were headed to the exit. The usual slick spots with sugar piles but a pleasant evening with no lines. The kid accomplished her first black diamond with a full Raceway run and now she’s calling for doubles 😂 Beer in the lot and JADIP until tomorrow night.

  4. Spent Sunday PM back at the hotel in bed taking ibuprofen and icing my leg. Woke up Mon AM and initially stood up and thought the leg felt good enough to ski, but within the first dozen steps realized that clearly was not the case. If I were at the top of a run and it were a necessity to get down, sure I could pull it off - as I had after my fall the day before. But it was foolhardy to go out for a day when I would be barely skiing, risking another fall, and delaying my recovery perhaps making for less skiing on future weekends. On our prior trips to N.VT the girls had wanted to tour the VT Teddy Bear🧸 Company Factory, but the timing had never worked out with their first tour being at 11 and last at 3 = prime ski time. We had a nice leisurely Hampton Inn breakfast in St Albans and hit that on the way home instead, making for an enjoyable long weekend for them. Fortunately the leg I hurt was the left one and so did not interfere with my driving.

  5. We picked a good day to go to Jay with the tram open this weekend for the first time of the year about 2/3 of the non-glade terrain open. Unfortunately there was a big ice patch on the top of Ullr and I had a nasty fall on it on my third run, bruising my leg badly enough that it was the end of my ski day. The girls skied a bit more without me. Did get a nice pic of them at the top after our first ride up the tram.

  6. Had a great day today Jan 17th. Blue is doing a great job considering the warm temps and rain all month. Kudos to their snow makers and groomers.

  7. Nice conditions today (17th). Razors, Paradise, Main and Curzi’s all nice with a lot of grip. Bottom of Main was a little soft, but the top was great with only a few softish icy spots (did sharpen the edges last night which helped). Bottom of Main was 1000% better than Saturday. Chute was real nice. Freefall still closed. Race team set up some brushes on one side of the bottom headwall of Razors. Some confusion at the quad rope drop when the season pass gate started opening a minute or so before the rest of the gates. After a half hour they opened up the new lift, but then about 1130 shut it down and opened up challenge express. The new lift sure is comfy with a lot of headroom for the safety bar, but you are almost at a dead stop when you get off. Don’t miss the uphill climb to Widowmaker. Most of the people getting off the new lift were heading over to Burma or to lazy mile. 14 runs today mostly on razors and Main Street. Top speed of 38, so it was a pretty mellow day.

  8. Spring like conditions with a light crowd made for a nice evening. The kid was fortunate enough to get @MrsSnowBunSkias her instructor at ski school! Got some laps with @Boo Bearuntil the lesson was done and then a couple more slow skiing runs to see what we learned. Two new trails for me this year with Upper Upper Main and Yeti so my night’s complete. Saw the new 6 stopped on the last run and by the time we got to the bottom, a crowd had formed and half were headed to the quad. You could hear the snowmobiles on the way to help which is always a good sign. Down about 15 minutes but it was above freezing so they can’t use the frozen button excuse again.

  12. TRAIL REPORT 1-17. Got to lot at 8:35 and parked in second row. Overcast flat light day, temp at 33 degrees to start. Did 3 runs on Kodiak with nice firm snow. Moved over to F chair side and Broadway was very nice snow, fast and smooth. Timberline was fast, firm snow also. Polar Bear was nice and soft. Grizzly was nice, fast and soft enough that no problem setting edges. Extreme closed. One run on Sasquatch, the top 1/2 was nice soft snow, but the bottom half was icy and hard. No lift lines at all. Started to spritz a little bit around 11 but nothing to worry about. No cookies or frozen parts to be found anywhere- groomers had mountain in nice overall shape. Rolled out around noon. JADIP

  14. If Saturday was a 3 or 4. Today was an 8. First run on razors was top notch. It was so nice we did it twice before heading to main street which wasn't as good but decent none the less. Another good one and a nice addition to the repertoire is the main street express to Curzis to Midway or Chute to lower main. Midway may have been the worst run today but chute was good. Overall a great morning. In the house were Ryan, Mute, Atomicskier, Johnny Law, Edge, Indiggio, Dirtwolf and many others. Fun day and blue is making a comeback (that is before the shit weather returns this week).

  15. I was there. Incredible day. Somehow me and my buddy both had cash. Also incredible, we almost decided to ski Belleayre that morning because it was closer to our hotel, but then we said 'nah....platty is better...' thank god we did. Everyone else lost power.... Ski on all day in nearly 4' of snow. Second night hotel called to tell us they had no power, so they put us up in the Roxbury, which is such a trip! Following day, crowd was pretty big, and the snow set up thick. But what a storm....

  17. we did Friday night ski club there for years. The food was done by an outside vendor and a really nice family, great fresh cut fries and they even baked a cake for one of the kids birthdays one year...

  22. I had meetings this morning so i went up for some afternoon delight. Good grip but too much water in the snow and horizontal movement was very high drag. With the warm temps there were moderate piles as it started to come apart but upperp main and pdis were still smooth. Not alot of people around so the new lift wasn't running. I did see BFG and crew eating snacks on my way in but otherwise a quiet day.

  23. Looks like a fun time. Fun fact: Tussey was actually a much taller ski area on the other side of the gap, but was relocated to this location. The prior spot had 900 feet of vert. https://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=95

  25. Yes I’m the one the came up with the name “double dip session” back in 2006. I’ve done that maybe three times, to get the morning fresh cord and then back later for a Perder storm.

  26. I agree as well as people who ski two places in the same day since that doesn't count as two ski days @theprogram4

  32. I used to play both those games. It's so rad. Today in the upper lodge I read a historical poster on Little Gap and that Ray Tuts dude or whoever renamed the resort to Blue Mountain because using "little" in the name is really bad for marketing, considering Blue was at the time way bigger than other resorts.

  33. Matt Edge gave me a fist bump on the chairlift for being able to hang with the big dogs now. Atomic Skier on his Kästle skis used to disappear on the horizon like a tiny apple seed, but now I can sort of keep up so he looks like the size of a walnut

  38. i have been having quite a productive PASR morning at work. Curzi's is/was a pretty neat place actually. I dont find it neat enough that they have to go renaming a trail after it though. https://gis.carboncounty.com/prcs/8-32-A10.pdf If you leave the lower parking lot, and start to head up BM drive, the first driveway you come to would be the access to the property. I would say you cant see the cabin from the road. i think it was like 10 acres, and it really did sit in the middle of a huge amount of land BMR Resorts owned. So, yeah, If Blue Mt wants to use across the street for tubing eventually, they got off pretty easy with just having to name a run after the guy in order for them to sell it to Blue. I cant find what the property actually sold for, records show it was transfered to Blue for $1. nobody is that nice that they would trade some property for a named ski run. They own an impressive amount across the street. At least 230 acres. From the entrance of the parking lot across the street, the rear property line is about 3,800' back. It appears they own the land they use for the Carbon County Fair, and this is propably the LZ (off Little Gap Rd) when they cant use the lot across the street. For those in the discussion as to how much land BMR owns on the other side of Freeballing, its roughly 2,900'. And for those wondering how much expansion that may be compared to what is currently "Blue Mountain", Blue is basically 4,419' wide, trail wise. like from the outermost point of Burma, to Para/Freeballing intersection. Also, the new lift appears to span a distance of 4,257'. The OG6 is 4,141. Quad is 4,414.
