I had meetings this morning so I was on the afternoon schedule again. Super spring like, low crowds and that smell when snow is melting. Razors was closed for the training of 6 people but coming soon is back on the menu. Upper ditch is non existent but the lower ditch held good super soft turns. Snow was slow, soft serve ice cream. Main was pretty much perfect except for some piles at the bottom but the lip on upper upper is massive and you can boost out to Pluto. New sixer was running and the quad which I like more than quad and old sixer. NM/DW was getting alot of work to push out, particularly for the power right turn and the portal to hell. It may be a bit thin or narrow but I bet it opens Friday or Saturday. I can't imagine there is enough snow on there for any kind of features at all.10 points

It's just a little thin but speak of the devil. He did one push down from the piles on NM and one up from DW and it's one groomer width wide so assuming he does another down it should be at least two or 2 1/2 widths. I can't see the bottom but that looks like the thinnest section. My guess is push it out, let it rain and it opens Friday.8 points

Hey All, I’m back from a quick morning session at Blue mountain. A very slow drive with 22 backed up and I arrived at the lower lot at 8;37am and it was 44 degrees under mostly cloudy sky’s. I’m the house we’re atomic Jeff, Oz, C1 and all of Bethlehem fords crew. First run on a very smooth and semi firm razors…was very nice and repeated that. Then up the super summit safari six back and skied Main Street which was softer cord than razors on the top and full on spring snow on the lower part and a bit slow. Widowmaker was closed for racing from the top with Marty setting gates so next run skied upper come around to connector to lower Widowmaker to midway to lower Main Street. Was decent. Then did another Main Street from the top and finished with Razors which was still real nice and they were setting up gates on Razorback for the special Olympics. All in all a fun AM session. I think tomorrow will be a rainout and I’ll either be back Friday AM or Saturday AM.7 points

Spring like conditions with a light crowd made for a nice evening. The kid was fortunate enough to get @MrsSnowBunSkias her instructor at ski school! Got some laps with @Boo Bearuntil the lesson was done and then a couple more slow skiing runs to see what we learned. Two new trails for me this year with Upper Upper Main and Yeti so my night’s complete. Saw the new 6 stopped on the last run and by the time we got to the bottom, a crowd had formed and half were headed to the quad. You could hear the snowmobiles on the way to help which is always a good sign. Down about 15 minutes but it was above freezing so they can’t use the frozen button excuse again.5 points

Another night session in the books...Conditions took you from zero to hero in one run.....But conditions shouldn't be like this in January...Got two NASTSAR runs in....Lift lines started to get painful around seven ....Fun night again...after many years of not riding at night it feels good to be out at night again....4 points

Had a great day today Jan 17th. Blue is doing a great job considering the warm temps and rain all month. Kudos to their snow makers and groomers.4 points

Had another fine day at Blue today. Got 2 runs on Razors before race team closed it. Nice snow pretty much all over. ROTD was TCS, nice soft snow, then natural bumps formed on the head wall. Hopefully they stay open tomorrow.3 points

That's pretty interesting, I didn't know that. I've wondered driving by along 322 through all those mountains and hiking in the area why the ski area isn't on one of the larger hills. Now I know why. This seems like the general idea as I tried to picture it from those maps: Another 900ft vert area in the state would be a nice thing to have. Add that to that list with the 1200ft thompsontown area along the juniata just past duncannon and the 1200ft area up by tunkhannock past scranton as places that I really wish had materialized. Out of all the huge mountains in the middle area of the state... we get Tussey Mountain and Blue Knob as ski areas. Which is not to knock on them at all but you wonder what could have been3 points

On Sunday after my walk I needed to do some business so I toured the snowtubing area and found they have a lot more bathroom stalls over there. I think the ski area only has 3 private stalls but snowtubing had like 6. That was so rad. It's worth the extra walk but someone still sat next to me so I was triggered2 points

TRAIL REPORT 1-18; rolled in at 8:30, temp already too high at 37. Cloudy cover. Only a few of us "boomers" in lodge. First 2 runs down Kodiak, fast and firm. Intersection of Kodiak and entrance to Broadway already showing streaks. Then went over to F chair side, Broadway traverse getting narrow. Broadway was nice and firm and fast. Did Timberline and was ok. Polar Bear was sweet. Grizzly was pretty nice, some streaks showing. Lapped Broadway, Timberline. Polar Bear, Grizzly for a while and then went back and did Cascade Park (slow at 11), a couple of Black Bear Park runs (pretty nice) and finished with Bear Trap/Kodiak run. Things getting soft at 11:30 but all in all JADIP2 points

I took a nice drive up 322 to visit a cousin at Penn State and ski Tussey. I made use of my Indy pass (finally) and with another friend we took advantage of the 2 for 1 college ticket monday which is pretty rad that they offer specials on a holiday. A bit of a line for the two lifts formed early afternoon but it was not too crazy I thought considering schools had off. Blue sky day and the sun had softened the snow up nicely except parts of the Deer Run green from the top (narrow shaded cut and the only green from the top today so it got skied off) and Upper Tuscarora (double black with massive whales they just opened for the season). The hill is actually a bit steeper than I imagined. It is a consistently steep pitch down 400-500ft under the quad. From the quad the green would be a blue and the blue a black at a lot of other PA areas. The beginner slope at the bottom is a good setup but it is really a big step up to send beginners down from the quad after that- narrow, crowded, slick and kind of steep. If they were to get that outer Lions way green open in this wacky weather that might be a better less steep next step and way to spread the traffic. They had some jumps set up at the bottom of the one blue. Classic sort of lodge with a fire and that ancient quad lift are fun. Fun place with everyone just having a good old time skiing for a few hours. That T bar straight up the side would be a wicked ride...1 point

They may have made extra money selling only 8 hour tickets..for all the complainers who didn’t go a lot of people shelled out way more Johnny cash to experience a taste of winter in snowless PA. I feel like temporarily eliminating the 4 hour pass option is bad for customer goodwill along with charging season pass holders $20 if they forget their pass. Heck I’ve been using the same pass since 2017-18 season I’m not paying $20.1 point

That reminds me of when I had to do the Tennessee trot in college I usually went to the third floor of the library…I did some good studying in that private bathroom. Had a door that locked so nobody playing footsies with you in the next stall like a NJ turnpike rest stop bathroom.1 point

Years ago I had lunch at beaver creek and got a sandwich, gatorade and I think I bought a candy bar and like a nimrod from Iowa or somewhere I whipped out a $20 before the cashier gave me my total. It was like $35 or something. Good view though..1 point

An update on my helmet purchase- I had bought the Atomic Savor HD helmet and now have 8 days with it, mix of sun, flat light and days with both conditions. Highly recommend it! If you wear glasses it eliminates the whole foggy glasses issue, eliminates foggy goggle issue too. Wife has the photochromatic lenses and loves them. May be slightly more versatile. My lenses are the HD lens and seems to be sufficient. A bit pricy, but if you need both a new helmet and good goggles it is worth it.1 point

TRAIL REPORT 1-17. Got to lot at 8:35 and parked in second row. Overcast flat light day, temp at 33 degrees to start. Did 3 runs on Kodiak with nice firm snow. Moved over to F chair side and Broadway was very nice snow, fast and smooth. Timberline was fast, firm snow also. Polar Bear was nice and soft. Grizzly was nice, fast and soft enough that no problem setting edges. Extreme closed. One run on Sasquatch, the top 1/2 was nice soft snow, but the bottom half was icy and hard. No lift lines at all. Started to spritz a little bit around 11 but nothing to worry about. No cookies or frozen parts to be found anywhere- groomers had mountain in nice overall shape. Rolled out around noon. JADIP1 point

I had meetings this morning so i went up for some afternoon delight. Good grip but too much water in the snow and horizontal movement was very high drag. With the warm temps there were moderate piles as it started to come apart but upperp main and pdis were still smooth. Not alot of people around so the new lift wasn't running. I did see BFG and crew eating snacks on my way in but otherwise a quiet day.1 point

Nice conditions today (17th). Razors, Paradise, Main and Curzi’s all nice with a lot of grip. Bottom of Main was a little soft, but the top was great with only a few softish icy spots (did sharpen the edges last night which helped). Bottom of Main was 1000% better than Saturday. Chute was real nice. Freefall still closed. Race team set up some brushes on one side of the bottom headwall of Razors. Some confusion at the quad rope drop when the season pass gate started opening a minute or so before the rest of the gates. After a half hour they opened up the new lift, but then about 1130 shut it down and opened up challenge express. The new lift sure is comfy with a lot of headroom for the safety bar, but you are almost at a dead stop when you get off. Don’t miss the uphill climb to Widowmaker. Most of the people getting off the new lift were heading over to Burma or to lazy mile. 14 runs today mostly on razors and Main Street. Top speed of 38, so it was a pretty mellow day.1 point

Looks like a fun time. Fun fact: Tussey was actually a much taller ski area on the other side of the gap, but was relocated to this location. The prior spot had 900 feet of vert. https://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=951 point

Also in the same edition, they mentioned that funding was assigned to finish the missing section of the D&L bike trail from Coplay to Riverside Park, so it will go from Bristol up to Wilkes-Barre.1 point
