Just got home from not just another day in paradise at Blue The True but an amazing day in paradise! Came home to around 3-4" after having watch the snow fall on Blues webcams all night at work. Arrived at the lower lot at 8:45 and the only other PASR powder hound in the house was none other than @Johnny Law. We booted up and got in line for the Quad as it was the only lift spinning this morning. We made probably the 6th or 7th chair and as everyone knows there are no friends on a groomer pow day! I started down Razors where the top had been wind blown but came right into a few inches of a fresh blanket of suprisingly dry natural snow to cut tracks all the way down. Next up was Nightmare to Dreamweaver which was much of the same fresh tracks top to bottom! Next up was Challenge where again the top was a bit wind blown but fresh tracks to be had the rest of the way. Found a little bit leftovers in Switchback. Went back for some more fresh I spotted left on Razorback and then lapped Nile Mile a few times as the riders right wall at the top refilled as the wind was blowing right into it. Finished the morning with 9 runs and a big grin. All in all it was JADIP.12 points

Really nice day. The new 6 pack was down, so it kept the crowds off of Switch and Main. Less powder on those slopes, an inch or so, so they must have groomed later than the east side. Think they expanded the bumps. Big PSIA certification day, so large groups on the slopes, they didn’t cycle thru the lift too often, so the lift line wasn’t too bad They did cut up the powder pretty fast though. The ski patrol was very nice and stayed to the very edges on their pre check, so fresh slopes for first run. Headwind up top Got there early, first in line and second chair behind stickered blue helmet guy. All set for second tracks down razors, when I hit some wind blown cord just before the lip and then buried my tips in a freshie pile and did a face plant😂 Good thing about being a geezer is that it is funny as it’s happening rather than after the embarrassment wears off. Still got tracks in the first dozen. Appreciative jlaw and DiMe didn’t spray me as they went past, but that would have taken too much time from hitting the slope, so it probably wasn’t out of their goodness of heart.11 points

Today was soooo nice and it's a rare day at blue where it has surpise depth. First run I went NM/DW and I almost couldn't believe it was untracked titty sparkles. It probably snowed about 2" but the wind made for deeper turns on more sheltered lines and it was a most excellent way to start the day.7 points

Trip summary: Definitely the best ski trip I've ever been on. The variety and abundance of terrain is incredible, steeps that'll make you quiver, bump runs that go on forever, trees galore, above treeline fields, fast, long, wide groomers. Having gone to the Big 3, I wouldn't bother going back to them, nor Nakiska. Not that they were bad, but they can't hold a torch to Kicking Horse or Revelstoke. They also don't get the snow that the other two do. The problems with most of the mountains are the lift configuration. Both KH & Revi are set up similarly in that the only way out of the base is via a single gondi. Best to get their early or you're going to be standing in a long line. Luckily Revelstoke has a master plan to help alleviate base congestion. https://www.revelstokemountainresort.com/real-estate/future-plans/ Rumors are that the upper Montana bowl lift would be installed in the next 2 years, so there's talk of heading back up there after that's in place. Good: Wide variety of mountains/terrain, size of resorts held lots of fresh perder for days, exchange rate (stuff seems expensive but actually pretty good), fairly easy drives (weather dependent), Canadians are crazy friendly/helpful and like to chat on lifts, direct flight to/from Calgary, weekday crowds, 1st VRBO had foosball table, 2nd VRBO had pool table, heated garage with 10 glove/boot dryer, ample cannabis dispensaries. Bad: Lift layout, some mountains (Banff Sunshine) required a lot of poling to get around, weekend crowds, 2nd VRBO house (no free shampoo/soap, stupid house layout, no basement bedroom bath), no hot tubs at either house. Ugly: Air Canada delayed departure while they rebooted plane and gave out nothing for the inconvenience.7 points

Def not as soft tonight as it was today. Had some sugar, glacial, and firm crud to play in tonight. Windy af and they surprised us with turning the guns on around 630. Guns at top were only filling in the Appalachian Trail and the lower guns went straight into the trees so hopefully the winds quit to make it worth it. Lazy was the ROTN and even got to share a lift with mBike and Mrs Bunski ✔️ Last pic is the unmarked 4 foot hole on lower sidewinder.6 points

one overly agressive facebook meteorologist/paramedic says accumulation snow sat, and significant snow tuesday. like a nor'easter. and maybe next thurs/fri too. he is a snow lover, so sometimes his snow goggles cloud his forecast some.3 points

Great trip report! Thanks for sharing! I've had my eye on Revelstoke for a while, and I'm planning to make it happen in the next few years if I can get any other PASRs on board.3 points

Seems like it. There's more people that can't make the 26th, and that chances not having enough snow2 points

Did an afternoon session at Eldora today. It was a sunny warm day with no wind. So rare for Eldora. Started out on the front side. The snow wasn’t great. Hasn’t snowed in a while and things were pretty scraped off. After 4 different runs in the front I went to the backside to see if the snow was better there. And it was a bit. Corona trail was pretty scraped off as it’s the main one on that side. Then I did a couple on Muleshoe, that snow was much better. Did one more back there forget the name then called it a day. No lift lines whatsoever. I miss Crested Butte. Lol2 points

Day 8 - Lake Louise As we bid a fond adieu to Revelstoke we packed up the SUVs and headed for Calgary with another stop in Lake Louise to get one more under the gun. As we approached the exit, we could see traffic in the opposite direction backed up about 1/2 mile onto the highway for the LL exit. After parking out on East Bumfuck and slogging our shit to the lodge, we enters the massive lines that would make a weekend day at Blue look appealing! Up the Glacier and Top of the World, we dropped over the ridge and made our way down to the Paradise lift. The snow was surprisingly still good on the bowl. Up the Paradise, down Corridor and into Swede’s what h all still had some nice perder but cut up. Down to the Temple Lodge where they had a DJ spinning tunes and MILFs dancing galore! We were thoroughly entertained! We had set a 1:30 departure time, so up the Ptarmigan and back down through the Ptarmigan glades, then it was back to the lodge for the return ride home. On the way, we had to stop and see the chateau at Lake Louise for a walk on the lake. Morning view… Resident kitty… Snow pics… Lake Louise chateau… Ride to Calgary…2 points

I just looked up the exchange rate is $1.38 Canadian to $1 US. Id definitely hit up a Canadian ATM would be rad to take out $200 and only have $140 disappear from my account. Props to Indiggio for a top notch report!!! Probably the second best one of the season.1 point

Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot before 715am and in the house were Johnny Law, PARidge, JFDan, Matt Edge, Atomic Jeff, Enjorales, Pops, TP4, Bethlehem Ford crew minus Bethlehem ford guy, Schifdawg, Wally, Dime, Toast and many others. The temperature was in the low 30s to start and the sky's were a mixture of clouds and sun. First run on Challenge had the rolly Polly snow..not that firm though. Main Street was smoother and firmer, Lazy Mile was craptastic and coming soon was decent while lower paradise was chop city. I didn’t get onto razors as it was closed for slalom training. I found Widowmaker to midway to lower Main Street to be the best run. Crowds were light to moderate and they didn’t even run the OG six pack until 10am when I was in the lot enjoying beer and chips. All in all a fun session and I don’t want to be to picky about ski conditions but I’ll give it like a 4.5 out of 10 today.1 point

Look at the details though... You CAN go to Breckenridge, Okemo unlimited with the Epic Local Pass. Epic Local is unlimited at Breck, Keystone, JF/BB. Park City is unlimited with day restrictions around the holidays. https://www.epicpass.com/passes/epic-local-pass.aspx The full epic for $909 makes sense if you're skiing for more than 10+ days at Vail, Beaver Creek, or Whistler. It also makes sense if you plan to ski on/around Christmas.1 point

Cool to see they are leaving money on the table while all the PA hills with one or two mountain passes are gouging folks.1 point

I would have had a better memory of the place except I had two gay guys ask me to share a room. I declined sternly.1 point

Apparently it's improving Thursday, March 2, 2023: 10:30 a.m. update: We're cruising around on 2-3 inches of new, low-density snow with variable depths stacked off-piste. I blasted through some pillows for a quick taste of the white room out there. Visibility on the lower mountain is improving. The upper mountain remains in storm mode with light snowfall, moderate winds and gusts, and very low visibility. 8 a.m. update: Snowfall has tapered off and we've picked up an inch or so in the village since this morning's report! The upper and lower mountain currently has incredibly low visibility (even by Big Mountain standards). We're talking full on sonar conditions. Trust your gear, trust the slope and trust your feelings out in the abyss!1 point

I like it, too. The chair itself is high for for the tiny folk in our party but hopefully in a season that won't be an issue anymore... I love the ease of access to widowmaker. We hardly ever went on it previously because we avoided the doubles. My hope for next year though is they figure out some way to ease congestion for getting on the lift - or getting off the snow. Its like a game of chicken to get through people and the sea of skis left at the edge of the snow. I love that we never wait in line anymore though.1 point

Day 5 - Kicking Horse Packed up the trucks and set out for Revelstoke, but first a detour at Kicking Horse. Arrived in the lot about 8:00am, got our paper tickets, booted ip and loaded the gondi just past 9:00. It was warmer than yesterday at the base, so went without midlayer puffy due to the extreme nature they say about the mountain. Up the Golden Express gondi overtop Boo the grizzly’s mini reserve and up to the top. Winds were gusting and I was second-guessing my decision to go puffyless. Unfortunately the little sun that was visible down below had vanished behind flurries and clouds which made for vertigo-inducing runs in the bowls. Took It’s a Ten to Northern Lights just to get a lay of the land. This place is serious steep and every run a mogul field. They only groom some of the greens and around the base and maybe off the Catamount (we didn’t go over there) everything else is bumps, bumps and more bumps. There was about 4” of new at the top but there were pockets of deeper as I found out personally. Down a knoll and into a gully in flat light got the tips too deep and binding check! Double eject, somersault in mod air and landed in a pile of perder. Took a few to dig out the skis. This place is serious steep, much steeper than Jackson. It’s been called Jackson on steroids and that’s definitely true. Checking out to bowl where they had the Freeride tour was incredible. It would have been far better had it been bluebird. Tried out Sluiceman and Flying Dutchman, the latter was better since the woods provided relief from the whiteout. Next lap er took Stairway to Heaven to the top. More whiteout sent us down Redemption Ridge and into McFadden’s way which held a lot of good snow in the trees. The next run the sky brightened a bit, so we dropped into Fuez bowl off Redemption Ridge. The snow was great but the lighting was horrible, making it difficult to see where to turn. Ended up running Porcupine a few time which was a marathon of bumps, too to bottom but held wonderful snow and little traffic. They should really change the name of this place to Kicking Ass as that’s what it does to people! Bolted Kicking Horse around 4:00pm and arrived at Revelstoke digs about 5:00pm. Decided on pizza because it’s too late to start cooking anything. On the road to Kicking Horse… Kicking Horse… On the road to Revelstoke… Revelstoke digs… Dinner…1 point
