Hey All, I’m finished with another session at Blue mountain the true mountain. This report is actually being written in the lot at Blue as I just quit and am the only one in the lot. I arrived at the lower lot before 720 and it was overcast and 33 degrees. In the house were Atomic Jeff, JFDan, Indiggio, Tarpenhead, Matt Edge, Dirtwolf, NMSki, Tommy, Enjorales, Mixilplix, TP4, Pops and many others. First went to the super safari six pack and wasn’t first chair as there were gate issues. Easy out and vista were ok and midway still not terrible but lower Main Street was a mine field and cookies and dirt. Then took the quad and coming soon was decent edgeable semi smooth hardpack and lower paradise was spicy. I lapped that for the next hour or so and had my fill. It’s not very crowded today considering it is a holiday. Now JFDan and BenM are in the lot so time does some fun lol8 points

I actually witnessed this and it was grate. Truly amazed at how agile @GrilledSteezeSandwich really is. I thought for sure he was going to run right over @AtomicSkier's Kastles and a fight would ensue, but he managed to skirt through everyone without nary a scrape! Took a run down Burma early for shits and giggles, yeah, nope. It was like 6" deep sugar the entire run. At least we didn't get whistled at by SP. Midway/Lower Main was almost as scary with its cookies and suspect grooming. Spent the rest of the day lapping Coming Soon. At least skier's right ridge was playful. Skier's left was a minefield of boulders with lots of sugar piles.5 points

Some pics from xc skiing last evening Went to Aspen today. I started my tracker on the Aspen app but it told me I skied 0 today which is a bummer. I like my stats. For Christmas week the crowds were amazing. 5-10 min lift lines and mostly empty slopes. We need snow like everyone else so conditions were somewhat icy and scrapey. But then I hear @JFskiDan’s voice in my head saying “boo hoo, Colorado is icy” Natalie in the bumps There is a jr race at Aspen tomorrow think we are going to try out Snowmass, I have never been there. after being down with the flu for over a week it felt good to ski again4 points

I made my first jump turn of the season through the bumpers standing at the top of Coming Soon..BenM saw my agility..yes I’m an agile mofo except crossing streets and in bathrooms in ski boots.. I really didn’t want to go skiing today..but I was still happy I went and will go tomorrow…and then prob gonna go on NYD…it’s impossible to get Herpes if you don’t go out on NYE…3 points

@Barb do you have a season pass at Aspen? Snowmass is the best for intermediates. Also those mountains don’t need a lot of snow to be almost fully open. 30-40” base only. Awesome reports!!! Barb that gouge in your skis is nothing. You should see some of our skis but for piece of mind would be easy to get it smoothed out and filled in with p Tex. You’re lucky it didn’t affect the edge.2 points

Snowmass was really fun today! It’s a huge mountain. We mostly stayed in the big burn lift. Those runs are 2000’ of vert. And had some nice baby bumps, my favorite. However, I had been told it’s a Rocky Mountain and it is definitely true. I hit 2 rocks going in the bumps that I didn’t even see. When I got home I saw this nice shot to my skis Not even sure I can ski on them unless I get this fixed. Crap! Other then that it was a great day. Coming back to the base there was a cat walk so I had my speed up, turned a corner and it looked like someone threw handfuls of gravel on top of the snow. There was no way to avoid it. I could have gotten the ding from that as well.2 points

Got there late with the boys for their forst go of the year, went to get on the super six and Thing 1's pass wouldn't scan. Sent Pops and Thing 2 on ahead, they were already through the gates and went in to have it fixed. Took about 15 minutes with about 4 parties in front of us so wasn't too bad. It took the rep like 8 tries to get it working though, so I was sure mine wouldn't be working when we got back out though, since we have the same name all all, I expected so.e sort of fuckery but it was good. Went up and spotted Pops gettin on the Vista lift as we went up so waited for them at the top. Decided to lap Vista a bit instead of running Burma, so the boys could get some turns in at least. Did thst like 3 times and then took them over to the Summit school carpet where they ran laps for 45 minutes or so while we sat and watched and had a drink. Skied down Burma to get back down to the lot, definitely sugar piles all over the place, but coverage was at least there even in the corners. And it wasn't toooo crowded 🙄: 20231230_111927.mp4 Took the long way home and took them to McDougal's in Walnutport to make up for such a crappy first day and that one still has a PlayPlace so all in all a pretty good day for them. Likely out on tomorrow, so Happy New Year all!2 points

I’m not at all surprised. Doug can be a svelte ninja on skis when he wants to be. I’ve witnessed it a few times this season alone.2 points

kinda thought today was gonna be real bad. it wasnt too bad. but Coming Soon was the star of the show, and thats kinda it. lower main was bombed out by a little after 9. i think they will make it into monday with similar conditions and similar skeet spots. Who knows what next week will bring.2 points

Yeah @Barb that’s barely a scratch. Ski them or get a shop to fill it and base grind. Edge is fine and not down to the core so no problem using them as is. Outta the box and into the rocks!1 point

I am very lucky indeed! I did get a full Aspen pass this season. It was the right call. I would not have been happy with 7 Aspen days on ikon pass. Plus I probably would not use ikon anywhere else. Another thing about Snowmass was that people really spread out. I thought it would feel busy since it’s a very family friendly mountain but it seemed empty. Only had a short line at the base. The lift we lapped was 3-5 min tops every ride. Nothing off that lift was groomed. Really really fun1 point

That's unacceptable lift grease practices by Blue the True. You should get a gift card for a new jacket or at least a hot toddy.1 point

Didn’t you go on a diet over the summer? Paying dividends taking skiing to another level 👍1 point

Snow was harder than a diamond this morning....The grooming made it extra spicy too...uneven and some small bomb holes....Started to soften up after an hour or so....But still some sketch spots....Super nice seeing the sky this morning..... TCS still seems to have a good depth....They must have had a really deep base on it to last this long...1 point

Don't get it wrong, it was different today but it was the best skiing of the year. You missed it.1 point

Thanks for all the reports..I was up early but didn’t really feel like skiing. Yesterday I didn’t really feel like skiing especially driving in the fog and rain but the runs were enjoyable and glad I got the last of upper paradise and the last of lazy mile the other day. I’m going tomorrow with zero expectations. I think it could be spicy out there. If coming soon to lower paradise is still open and they’ve patched up the Nile river crossing, that might be a bit quieter. I hate all that vista jazz and the crossover from lower vista to upper midway my head is on a swivel. ski some of y’all tomorrow.1 point

Snow surprisingly locked up overnight and made everything firm and fast. However, wherever a snowmobile had gone over the snow, it was soft underneath. @tarponhead showed up and lapped everything with him until the legs gave out from the soft snow on Coming Soon. Sun was out most of the morning and it was warming up fast. However around noon clouds rolled in and it began to drizzle and continued to do so while we drank beers in the lot. Vista was absolutely nutz going through there mid morning with all the beginners and crazies intermingling to try to safely navigate the mayhem. On down towards the Vista lift, there's now just a WROD funneling everyone into tight quarters which made for some jocularity. Midway was nice later, but trying to get through the Vista debacle didn't make it worthwhile. Lower Main is hurting and it'll be interesting just how wide it'll be tomorrow after the sun and traffic today. They could push some snow down from upper Main. The connector under the super six is perhaps an 1" deep now and will need some help to stay open, but who knows from where they'll get snow for that. Coming Soon was ROTD after it softened up. There was a beginner girl at the top whining to her friend she couldn't make it down because it was too steep and that she was gonna die, to which I asked her if I could have her goggles then. We told her to just traverse and she'd be fine. We didn't see her again. Upper Paradise is done, stick a fork in it. Lower Paradise is also in need of snow as a part of it is barely 1" deep and will probably be dirt by the end of today. There's pretty much nowhere to get snow so that'll be real interesting if they can't keep that open. Gonna be a fun weekend!1 point

Think about how many more would be sold and how much more the slopes would suck tomorrow if they were $39.1 point

I had grease on the back of my jacket yesterday, I was pissed off scrubbing it off at home! This explains it.0 points
-
Spent 25 minutes in the bathroom mid session ferociously scrubbing the grease off my jacket that got on it from the lift. As annoyed as I was, I got about 98% of it off. Went to the hand dryer to dry the jacket off and got dirt from the wall on it…more scrubbing ensued smh. Eventually got it clean and all seems to be well. Worried the waterproofing on that particular area is now shot. @toast21602 has been through this0 points

@saltyant that was nice of you to offer to trade a banana for NMSkis beef stick. He had plenty of beef sticks. No worries.0 points
