Got to CB Tuesday afternoon. Had to find a hole in the storm cycle to travel. In winter when Kebler Pass closes, it’s just as far from Marble as it is from Boulder to get here. There is a route that cuts 30 min off the time, but you skirt the road of Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Did it once in winter. It’s icy, foggy, twisty and desolate. I kept thinking if I slid off the road nobody would find me until spring! So now I drive here via Montrose and stay on the main roads. All of Colorado seems below snowpack levels. When I arrived my house wasn’t blocked by a mound of snow. But maybe winter has finally arrived. Yesterday woke up to a fresh 4”. It was negative temps and the wind was whipping. So I was lazy and took the 10:15 bus. I was told Paradise was socked in and absolutely freezing. So I stayed on the front side. It was bitterly cold. My face hurt after an hour so I left. Today the webcam said 7” when I woke up. By the time I left it was up to between 8-9”. Surprisingly quiet. Again, due to very low viz, I stayed on the front side. Decided to try and work on my very mediocre powder skilz. Did 6 powder laps and a few groomed. Snow was deep!! Only a few pics as it was pretty cold again. Supposed to snow all weekend. It’s a holiday so will probably be busy9 points

Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 830am and it was in the upper 30s with overcast sky’s and moderate winds. In the house were Atomic Jeff, C1er, Bethlehem Ford crew, Rodney and Oz. First civilian six pack to top to bottom Main Street which was firm but pretty smooth. A couple skeet spots lower down but coverage is decent but according to a patrol, there’s a stream running under Main Street. Skied Main Street again then took the quad to coming soon which was ok, grippy enough but not as smooth as Main Street. Lazy mile was pretty nice and only crazy mile one run with a lot of herbs but the majority of the runs only had a few people on them. Paradise was ok as well and the skeet spots lower aren’t as bad as they were over the holidays. I ended on Main Street, quick 8 runs and out at 1020. It wasn’t boner doner but a very pleasant session. I’ll be back Saturday AM looks like it should be spring conditions then and back to winter on Sunday JADIP7 points

They actually had season pass lanes set up today on both lifts. It has a designated cattle chute and everything.6 points

@mute1080, Beckyboo and I went up for an evening session, met up with a friend and their little. Overall great night, snow was awesome. The drainage ditches and holes kept it interesting to ski around. Fun night.6 points

I had a window on the swing shift, Kurt's crew was soaking up the sun but pretty empty. Super super good hero snow, set it and forget it all the way top to bottom main, lazy was super good just effortless arcs and even coming soon was pretty smooth. The run out of pdis is brown town lumpy af again but a super super nice day to let them run. I didn't do Vista midway but I heard they filled in the death gap.4 points

Just wrapped up a quick sesh to stretch the legs and test the body. Did 4 runs. Everything is still soft. First two runs down main were nice and rippin but lower main had washboard rollers. Coming soon was closed initially and then the rope drop and it was rutted up like crazy from BMR but as always the skiers right was nice and the ditch was gettable. No real crazy lift lines dispite the number of busses across the street. Also turns out the new Blue strategy to handle them is to yell rudely at everyone to load chairs full. I think that’ll work…3 points

Managed to get there for an hour this afternoon. Hit everything at least once and they did fill in most of the holes nicely. Soft snow and skied right on to the lift each time.3 points

Just got back from an afternoon sesh at The Camel. Snow coud best be described as creamy, super saturated and fast. It's gonna be all about that solid base after a freezing night. Lapped the park lift mostly which only contains a stall feature, down rail and 10-15 jump. Fun but very much lacking compared to Blues early season park yet nice to have a dedicated lift to lap it. Finished out with some laps down Asp, Hump and King Tut. Forgot how legit Camelbacks steeps are for the very short duration your get to go down them, so short. Oddly it although it was super light crowds today the top premium parking lot had about 50 cars with playes from about 20 states. Ikon doing it's thing I suppose. I'll be back at Blue for the foreseeable near future. I'll check Camelback again when they upgrade the parks. All in all a creamy cool sesh at The Camel.2 points

Turn on gps, turn off brain. i have found people using a gps and they were in the wrong state. no lie. all of our trucks have trackers on them, so occasionally i will see one, and be like what the fuck is that guy doing there?2 points

Rode from 11 -1, very good soft snow, minimal lumpiness but enough to keep speed at level 9. Overall the hill did remarkably well, though for those that like to travel at speed be very careful at the waterbars, the end of dis and the crossover from Vista to midway both are sporting 2x1 ft chasms that are best delt with in the air. Main has a big fucking hole from all the water running underneath but otherwise held fast super grip arc arc arc turns. Nobody was home which is the best condition and it was super nice to let them fly. First thing in the morning when it's still smooth you could really let them run.2 points

@saltyant you should do focus groups..you can get paid cold hard cash which can easily be converted into five packs of Yoo Hoo and foot by the foot. Remember to hook up airhead, dime, enjorales sons and cousin and Harold..better get two five packs.1 point
-
Is that for focus…I’ve only done that a few times and not for me..I’d be a lot thinner but nope. I don’t even really consume that much caffeine..that’s why I have a 20 ounce Mountain Dew..hit the wrong button on vending machine and don’t want it..it’s for Johnny Law..might even pick him up a code red at sheetz on the way up.1 point

Yup just like @toast21602 hot and cold…and like a Katie Perry song…some days are good some days are bad. Shit just today I’ve been happy and pissed off several times. C’est la vie you take the good you take the bad you take them both and then you have the Facts of Life…no @theprogram4 this morning which is rare. Yeah I fucks with the Beatles no big dealio…and loving some of the Tik Toks coming out of the Bronx…1 point

20 minutes per wait for normal people with lift tickets.... For us VIP season pass holders in the new and improved VIP line to be implemented soon, it'll be a 20 second wait !!!1 point

My guess is they’ll get coming soon and you still have paradise, Main Street, midway, lazy and burma. Plenty of variety.1 point

I saw that. Right under the KT22 lift apparently. Unfortunately it appears one person was caught. Positive Vibes to everyone involved. I remember that area well. Very steep and wide open terrain. Apparently that area had just opened for the season.1 point

The avalanches are gonna be insane in JH…weeks of hoar frost and crystals on top of an old shallow snowpack and then lighter density snow and wind slab..and the next storm this weekend coming in warm…it’s like trying to build a house with a foundation of potato chips…1 point

The only tech i see is a radar to tell them how deep the base is, as far as i could tell, from what i watched. As cool as it is, its only as good as the people that use it, and how they use it. Every piece of equipment has a huge computer screen on it these days. Its a problem for the older generation. you know, the guys that wont use an iphone, and struggle with a flip phone....those types. I have guys at work that struggle with sending emails from an iphone. And just blatantly wont do it because its "new" and it will take them 20 minutes to learn how. We have a really expensive brand new paver that we struggle with, because its less levers and cables, and all done by wires, and, you guessed it, has a huge computer screen on it, and does fancy shit like self adjust based on points you put in it, or reads off of a curb. Lots of tech for a bunch of low tech guys. Cant teach an old dog, new tricks.1 point

Don't forget Rona, mad people had to go play outside and turns out touching grass is actually pretty dope. Bikes are the same way, mad people stopped riding once things went back to kinda normal but mad people found out they loved it. I'm not besmirching them just saying there are way more people outdoors now.1 point

The whole Epic/Ikon thing is interesting. I think it definitely encouraged more people and families to take up skiing, which is a good thing, for them and for the sport. Once upon a time Epic pass ruled in Colorado. When Eldora was on Epic they had the same problems you guys are experiencing at Blue. But they have such limited capacity parking it was unsustainable. They switched to Ikon. I never went to Eldora on weekends but I think now it’s just as bad as when they were on Epic. I think both passes, here at least, are the same. Most of my friends who used to be on Epic switched to Ikon. They hated dealing with Vail and Breck. But now Winter Park and Copper are just as bad crowd wise. I have seen the huge increase in crowds since Crested Butte went Epic. It’s not as bad as the front range resorts but people have definitely discovered it. I puked in my mouth paying for a full Aspen pass this season. I haven’t skied there too much yet, but based on crowds Christmas week, the full price definitely keeps it manageable. I agree with you guys that if Blue goes full Ikon, it’s gonna be a shit show and that’s a shame.1 point

They really should have found a way to keep at least one of the fixed-grip doubles. They could have used the other for spare parts. The detachables are notorious for having issues with snow/ice. The huge storm a number of years ago we all went to the valley and both the OG 6 and quad were down because of snow/ice. We ended up driving up to the summit and lapping the doubles until they got the detachables running. It's just like they don't think about winter operations at all and think everything's gonna work just fine, when it's really gonna take time to get them running on a snow day. For them to allow BMR to take over CS on a snow day is just plain stupid. They know people are going to be clamoring for that run and now you're removing already limited terrain, duh!1 point

@Benm Were chairs really loaded with 1 or 2 people yesterday, as I see on Facebook? That's absolute insanity with 10,000 people in line. But I can see how it happens - when I ski single, I just keep moving up in the line until I'm on a chair whether I'm alone or with 5 others. Often I'll line up with people and then when it's our turn to board, they just stand there and I end up riding alone because they don't want to ride with 1 stranger. Not my fault, it's theirs... Yet I end up looking like the bad guy 💁1 point

I’ve never personally used a GPS. I’m amazed I used to remember where all my classrooms and friends phone numbers were and where random people lived in college. A lot of our cemetery files have Mapquest directions printed out in the early 2000s and some have really really old directions where 145/MacArthur road is called 7th street and when parts of 78 were 309.0 points
