  1. Rode this morning c1er in the house but he was too fast on rasins and I could never catch him. I pretty much went up to ski rasins, it looked primo from the lift yesterday and I hadn't ridden it at all. First chair I was alone and with no AS out front to give me a preview I stuck to 90% speed but about half way down I realized it was straight butter and let them go. It was so nice to open them up a bit and make endless plunging arcs in what was 9/10 razors. I rode that 4 or 5 times in a row but everyone else had the same idea and it got too crowded for speed runs. Lazy was most excellent, coming soon is exactly the same, ratty headwall but primo grip. Sadly the blew and were blowing on upper main so that was far more scrambley then the weekend but still smaller cookies so medium rippage. Not surprised but sad to see no action on switch or side, they were blowing the yellow fans, upper main and the first headwall on challenge. Maybe the biggest news I met the dude sleeping in his car. Eric from Maryland he stays at the AT lot as blue wouldn't let him live in theirs. Hyper stoked to ski blue, so much I had to re think my general bitching about all the dumb stuff they do. He was aware of our group and came up to me from my bright clothing but good dude with an interesting story.

  2. It's not crazy busy and the snow is really good. Chalky in most places... Some slick overall really nice. Razors is closed for racing. Guns are a blaze. Good night sesh

  3. Took the afternoon away from work today to get in some last minute XC strides and glides before the snow all melted away. Stopped at Illick's Mill and Monocacy Park to check things out and ended up taking the tracks out and back to explore that area. Super quiet and peaceful back there along the water which is what I love about taking these out. Just a lovely afternoon.

  4. Skied until about 11 when the lifts started backing up outside the gates. Summit wasn’t open when I left. Quad was particularly busy. Upper Razors got a little marbled, but once you reached above Razorback I could open up a little. Skipped TCS with a few runs on Main and Curzi’s. Saw JLaw having fun on lower Razors, but we were pretty much oppositely staggered. A lot of work done on the slopes and it shows.

  6. Is this trail ever not closed for racing? I was actually thinking about an afternoon/evening session this week and getting on Razors was one of the big reasons I wanted to brave night skiing.

  7. How did I not know that Crested Butte had a free Nordic section all these years? There is an elaborate trail system you have to buy a pass for but there are a few free loops. Went to the resort this morning to extremely flat light. I took exactly one run and decided to leave. I hate that my stupid old eyes just can’t see, just not worth it. So left and got my XC set up and my friend and I did a lap on the “poop loop” which is the dog friendly loop. Fingers crossed visibility is better tomorrow.

  8. Group included an instructor and kids, they got lynched by the fb mob jury. Would love to know the real story, if it was a simple mistake or major dumbassedness...

  13. Those SAR people are tough and knowledgeable. I have a lot of respect for them. I thought I read awhile back there is a charge for their services in Vt now.

  14. I don't know the schedule anymore as I don't night ski all that much but it used to almost never be open at night. Lots of college and high schools practice plus I think they don't want that many people on it. When NMDW is open with no features it's better as is switch, rasins you can literally fall down and it's almost always the hardest snow on the hill. I think it's best when in the slush when it gets more 3d and you can mix in some airs.

  16. My skis are fat and don’t fit in the track. I will say that you lose energy transfer outside of the track as the skis naturally go sideways a bit. When in a track all that energy is just propelled forward. But yes, it’s a great area. I will be here most of the week and will try to hit it daily. Just a good bit of cardio.

  17. I really want to take my skis to a nordic center and try them out rather than break trail. That looks like fun there!

  18. Sadly, both days with great conditions were crowded enough that i had my fill at 9:30. Others have more patience than me for a lift line, but when its at the scanners thats about when its my time to leave. All this isnt limited to Blue, thank the multi-mountain pass i guess. weird shit pops up on my FB, and i found this. i saw that Roundtop was "the busiest ever" saturday and sunday. But, also saw JF was not real busy.

  19. They won't tolerate lift lines a minute over an hour. They are principled that way.

  21. Yeah, I miss the days of skiing right on to the lift. Today was a beautiful day, though. Lines not bad, and VIP lines were open.

  22. Enough VT resorts already bought up, please don't let this one get ruined too! Can just see paid parking, pay to use the cabin, half the lifts closed mid week to save money.

  23. Was up this morning and skied until noon. Snow was great! ROTD was Grizzly into either Broadway skiers right or under the F chair. Skiers right of Griz was nice and fluffy all morning. Sasquatch was very nice, soft and easy to ski. Was a decent crowd all morning, surprising. Must be people trying to get the good conditions before end of week rain. Lots of kids, surprised by that.........

  24. Dammmmn...I was there tonight... Rode from 5 to 6:30ish....All from the F chair...Place filled up fast...Snow was really nice.....I was on skis and had green pants on ..not the orange ones I usually wear....I wish the lift line wasn't such a cluster fuck of humanity....Some slight knee stiffness but nothing that stopped the fun....

  25. When you gotta work during the day I'm just glad that skiing is still an option afterwards. Although I'm clearly not as stoked on night skiing as I used to be. Now a days im happy to hold off on night sessions until the sunset spring sessions kick in. Those evenings can be magical. I skied tonight because I missed this weekend and was jonesing to ski, plus the shit weather kicks in tomorrow I think

  26. If you can go when it's supposed to snow that's the way. Pow pow is part of the Jay dealio and as good as it can be it can also be equally terrible and hyper icy

  27. I've been maybe, possibly, considering, mayhaps, doing a very rare night skiing this week. If there are lines with 47,584 minute long waits this will sway my opinion.

  28. Again good info!! Looking at the map again I did not do Sneaky’w but the one next to it, Max Gulch or some thing. Will have to try it next time

  29. The views from Sneakys or up top at Elk alone make the runs special but the freeway is an absolute classic. You can max short radius carve for like a solid min it's so wide. Generally I found if your starting at the mall if you work left and then back the crowds are mostly going the other way. They'll ski Sam's knob at 930 because it's right out the mall but nobody is home at 230. Like working back to front at Vail.

  30. It's super weird but it's like lemmings or something where they all show up en masse all at the same resort. Almost all of UT has been insane this year but apparently it's generally only one of the resorts that is way worse than the others. Two weeks ago they 4hr redsnaked Basin, while everywhere else is relatively empty, two days later you can't get to the bird but Alta was empty. A parking reservation at Brighton is like trying to get a table at Delilah at the Wynn but when you get there it's ride on. None of it makes any . I have and have had an ikon I'm not hating but they gotta figure the numbers out because for whatever reason they seem to all pick the same places.

  32. Is that the end of sneakys ? It's been a few years but big burn has so many full throttle runs. I'd say the freeway is my favorite as sneakys is always working one leg. Iirc they tend to not groom whispering Jesse alot but that's super good if you can catch it groomed. My favorite lap was freeway across the bridge down to Alpine springs and then rip whatever of coffee pot, naked lady or lodgepole was groomed. That's like solid 10 mins at top speed of just arc arc arc with a billion places to get air especially on lunkerville. If you go back up and take turkey trot to elk camp and go sandy Park or the one under lift that's maybe the best set of fast flowly blue groomers in the US. I'm super jelly, Highlands is my favorite but I skied Snowmass the most by far because it just has everything and their blue groomers are maybe the best anywhere, the design is just so perfect.

  33. Agree. Switchback is best trail on the mountain. I’d rather they not blow snow on Challenge than not blow snow on Switchback and Sidewinder. If they had to choose.

  34. 21 skiers rescued in the killington back country. Getting lost is scary..the backside of killington is wilderness and there are no roads for several miles and once dark not easy to back track. https://www.wcax.com/2024/01/21/more-than-dozen-skiers-snowboarders-rescued-killington-backcountry/?outputType=amp

  35. Today I thought main Street was just like a strip club in Quebec, Le Tits. Could really let it rip on there today. Mostly everything else besides chute was also tits. Bon voyage to the crew heading to Jackson. Looking forward to the reports.

  36. Skied with the grandkids at Frost. 3 yo got a little cold after 4 or 5 runs on Frosty, but the 4 yo was out for over an hour. Fries and hot chocolate as a reward.

  37. Just rolled in back home. Snow was top 10 for cold rolled Pocono powder. ROTD was the outside Coming Soon ridge, the snow was spectacular. Crap was Blue not able to pull enough personnel to gate the OG6 early, but I heard they eventually did so after lunch. We ended up using the Quad VIP to singles which was practically empty all morning, go figure? Cold conditions out in the lot for chilled beers with an eagle circling overhead with the sun as a backdrop, its tail feathers were clearly white. Have a grate Jackson trip to all those heading out West!!

  38. I think what I hate most about modern skiing is they turned it so corporate, it's all a business for the most part. Most of the ogs who went out and had the vision to see a ski mtn weren't primarily interested in turning a profit and it shows. Vail decided let's see what the market will accept and bam its 200$ a person just for the ticket. The sport and culture of skiing would lose so much including its core soul if it's a rich person's only sport. I ski alot at DV and 95% of them are not skiers, they are there to be seen or to take pics for the gram and mostly truly because they see it as an status symbol of wealth. It's so lame and for 392822842 reasons the exact opposite of what it's all about.

  42. That will be rad if Ikon acquires Elk Mountain. New hotel resorts, high speed lifts, uber paid parking. They can turn Elk Mountain into a radical resort just like Camelback!

  45. I stressed my knee slightly on friday riding at BC ....Didn't think it was too bad so I took some pills yesterday am before Blue...Took a run down Lazy and couldn't hold a heelside edge without pain...Didn't want to be a liability on the hill so I called it..It killed me to use common sense and not ride today cause I knew it would be Tits McGee....
