Deserted compared to last Monday. Light pretty flat early, better later. Strong wind blowing uphill most runs, better on NM/DW. All slopes very firm but not icy. Fresh edges on the RTMs helped. Razors closed until about 10:30. Widowmaker closed for gate practice. Main St. In great shape, none of the loose stuff to bother you. 19 runs before noon and my legs still felt fresh.11 points

January 29, 2024 Day 6 of 7. Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Jackson hole mountain resort. It was a mild start with the temperature around freezing top to bottom. I think we were second gondola cabin today and the mountain was in the fog from a bit above the base to almost the top of the gondola. First run on amphitheater was the easiest run we skied today but also the most challenging due to like ten feet of visibility. Picking my way down added a couple extra minutes. Up the Thunder lift and about the top 200 vertical feet of Thunder was above the fog…Grand had nice groomed snow and wasn’t as hard to see as on Amphitheater. Up Sublette and maybe the top 400 vert of Sublette was above the fog. The Boys wanted to do the Tram and I wanted to stay on Sublette so I split from them and did a three Sublette laps on Bivoac and Rendevous trail, they then wanted to do another tram lap and during that time I did two more Sublette laps and a ten sleep bowl to cirque run to the Thunder chair. The cirque had nice spring snow but in the fog a little bit…Dirtwolf left for the airport and I met Atomic Jeff and NMSki at the bottom of Sublette and did a repeat of ten sleep bowl to cirque to amphitheater to lower tram line, that was quite the burner and by the bottom I was covered in sweat. I had my fill after 7 Sublettes, two thunders and one gondola and NMSki went up for a third tram lap. Lunch was at Osteria, I had ceasar salad and margarita pizza and Diet Coke, atomic Jeff had arugula salad and a meat pizza and two glasses of Prosecco(Jeff says the bubbles are uplifting) and NMSki had ceasar salad, calzone and some sort of cloudy beer. Lunch was $169 and I gave a $40 tip because the waitress was impressed that a fat boy skied ten runs lol. Now back at the 49er, time to poop, take a little siesta, then hangout in NMSkis suite a little before supper. Tomorrow is our last ski day, I’m never sad when a trip is almost over, especially one like this where everything went so smoothly. Here are some pictures!!!10 points

Fun times today! Was glad that @Dirtwolf was able to get the morning in, and was cool to see the tram through the eyes of someone experiencing it for the first time. Snow was so good in rendezvous bowl, and it was so nice and sunny up there I had to take 3 trips up big red today. Aside from pockets of bad visibility the snow was really nice overall. Tomorrow I will get in a couple runs and head for the airport. It’s been a great trip! @AtomicSkier in rendezvous bowl9 points

Went for little over an hour after work...on snow maybe 4:45ish..Snow was just chopped/rutted up shit.....Started to cool down ....Trails that didn't get traffic started to set which made it a little spicy .....Place was pretty ghosted.....Zero wait at the lift.....Even though snow conditions sucked it was still fun to be sliding on snow..3 points

Once you go bib, you never go back. ——— i have the flylow foxy insulated bib. Previously bibs wouldn’t work well for me because of the chest/shoulders but they recently made it with more flex up top. Love that companies are like actually innovating like @Barb bottom zips3 points

Woke up to rain in the B, thought about heading North to try to find the blue line but couldn’t find the motivation. (Shoulda gone, Belle claimed 8”). Saw a break in the hourly and radar around 1:00 and headed up. They lied, soaked to the bone after 5 tele runs, snow was great though and empty. Had fun running the little patch left of Barnies, the Sherbie Simulator lol3 points

Sitting in Stanley’s at O’Hare waiting for my connection back home. Great trip with great guys. Flat light seemed to be a theme but we made the best of it. It’s awesome to have the best tour guides Atomic and GSS to have the answer for every weather condition. I did enjoy the unexpected room upgrade. Reserved the cheapest double queen room but ended up with a fireplace double queen that had lots of room for activities. My legs are tired so I guess that’s mission accomplished.3 points

The lights are on timers. Depending on the mountain ops situation they'll leave lights on until 7:00, turn particular trails on, or turn off lights around midnight - typically that's late enough for snowmaking to be fully fired up. They leave lights on while there's limited skiable terrain because often those trails get checked on foot, and often trails will be left on even if only a couple snowguns are active over that way - there's a fan gun at the top of Challenge, for example, so to light up that one gun Challenge lights have to be on. I'm sure there are efficiencies they could find, but 9,750 HP of air compressor makes them look like a rounding error.3 points

I think post rain depends when they groom. I have done the day after they closed, but they groomed after close the day before, and it was so bad i will hesitate doing that again.2 points

Damn I knew it was going to be empty, post rain has become the new best condition at blue. I have to be in NYC for work until Wednesday and I'm dying.2 points

January 28, 2024 Day 5 of 7 Hey All, I’m back from another day at Jackson hole mountain resort. There were a few flakes falling this morning and the temperature was in the mid 20s. First civilian gondola again and sadly visibility wasn’t great early on with real flat light. The snow on amphitheater and Laramie bowl was nice..Rendevous trail also nice snow and a little better visibility. Did another Sublette lap then skied Lower tram line to the base. Mute had time for one more run before he had to leave for his flight and we took teewinot to Apres vous said bye to Mute, watched a few of the racers then skied over to the teton lift up teton and over to Casper area which had ok snow then up Casper and over to the Marmet lift which I haven’t been on in a few years and gives a different perspective. Crowds weren’t as bad as yesterday..a half corral max at Sublette, nothing really at thunder and minimal waits elsewhere. From marmet skied ranger under the gondola which was chalk bumps, then into Sundance gully to the base. I had my fill and NMSki took the tram for another lap. We had a quick lunch at the Mangy moose and now back in town…last night most of us went to the cowboy bar. It was packed to the gills with a band and the male female ratio was about 85:15 but most of the females were hot..I guess cause pf Taylor swift country music has gotten popular with chicks cause some were dresses like cowgirls and there was even a bachelorette party. due to low visibility I didn’t take many photos. Let’s hope the sun comes out tomorrow. pictures from Laramie bowl second run.2 points

Post rain when above freezing are my favorite non pow conditions. I definitely prefer it to fresh manmade or that slow squeaky snow.1 point

I used to get the cheddar popcorn at Nuts on Clark from the O Hare airport. Nuts on Clark sounds like a bad porno or a good one depending on how big of a weirdo you are.1 point

I have the extra ankle or foot bone in both feet, its a genetic thing I don't remember the name of but regardless I like slippers, no lie before Atomic turned me on to the rs130 I could pull my foot almost all the way out like that kind of slipper boot. Lange makes a wide but I've heard all the wide foot people are on the technica mach 1, it comes in a regular, medium and high volume lasts and apparently is quite the miracle worker. I know nothing about it personally but as a wide boot guy it's number 1 on my list when I get new boots though I only do it when I absolutely positively have no other choice. All new boots suck.1 point

I am blessed with 2 of the most mishapen feet as well. one foot is a good size bigger, and the smaller foot is wider than the other. This Dalbello Pantera boot that im in has been the best set of boots for me ever. you can adjust the last on the boot with the toe buckle. might be on some other styles, but the toe buckle is backwards from the others. your results may vary.1 point

Yeah, left foot is almost a full size longer and right foot is significantly wider. The Morton's neuroma is worsened by compression so I need find something wide and soon. It was fine until ski season when compressing my foot into my boot. I guess it just got used to having space and once it got back in ski boot prison it got worse. Same thing happened out in Verbier many years back and had some boot work done out there to help because it was to the point where I'd almost pass out taking my boot off from the pain, but I guess things have just gotten worse in my advanced age..0 points

Spent a couple days at Hunter this weekend. Had the unfortunate experience of skiing a brand new trail there "Empire Trail". Unfortunate because as of last year "Empire Glade" was one of 4 marked glades at Hunter, and often the one open the most, and they decided to saw down its trees to make a short inconsequential blue trail.0 points
