Yesterday morning was the single best hour ive had at BC. Left extra early not knowing the road conditions and quickly realized they were simply wet so I arrived in the lot about 45 minutes before opening and was the 2nd non worker there lol. First in line at about 805 and hung out with some others till rope drop. My plan was to hit E lift so I could beat everybody else to F lift and get untrack Sasquatch. As I got to E lift I was told F lift was closed. So I took a run down and back to E lift and by this time F lift was open so I shot down there and was still one of the first people down Sassy. Single best run Ive ever had at BC. After that I hiked back over to F lift so I could hit Extreme which was simply incredible. Back up E lift, down to F lift and took another run down Sasquach. By this point both trails were basically tracked out so I spent the next 90 minutes enjoying the mountain. Simply amazing morning.10 points

Day 3 started sunny and warm, we ripped groomers with light crowds and super good cord. We had a fondue lunch early and while getting down with the curds and whey the weather changed on a dime. Round 2 of the super wet, Helen Keller skiing was on, 2" an hr snow with random down pours of graupel. We stuck to what we knew blind and went to Steins/mayflower which held super soft chunder turns. In the white we probably fell down it as much as actually skied it but it mattered not. We bounced through the piles until my legs were absolute noodles. In the end 9 more inches came down in 5 or 6 hrs Diner was a Japanese thing that was most excellent. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Today there was allegedly more snow on the way but awoke to a clear cold morning. With good vis, lots of snow around and breakfast from mom it was time to take down the more interesting lines. Straight to Ontario bowl a some baby hikes we got two quick shots of knee deep untracked. Next up was Mayflower chute a smaller face that looks cool I've always wanted to ski but was icing the cupcake where your patching together the untracked pockets. We gambled on Perseverance trees which was a mix of luge track and super soft but ultimately forced our hand to go up Empire for the real goods. The traverse was fast and while my cousins and brothers wanted x files I was after something more spicy. I skirted the cornice past 1-3 which while holding good snow are too bs, 5 is the real prize but had no way in so I settled for 4. Through the gate I was greeted with a 6ft cornice but it was mostly fake news and was a nice hop air into a upper 30's degree rock lined ramp of snow. Knee deep fresh one turn, wind blow hard slab the next it was what I love about steeps. Wild and reckless you push your limit stick to 105 and a 1000 vert is gone in two minutes of joy where there is nothing more that exists but you and the mtn. We took two more to 7 and a failed run where we basically traversed ourselves out of mtn. Lunch we grilled some burgers and soaked up the sun as it had suddenly become 30. We did a bunch more groomers but more importantly at the end of the day we found the sticky wicket an 80's themed ski bar that for DV is almost dirt bag. Kinda speakeasyish if you go, at silverlake lodge go all the way left to the Cafe royal which is closed but go through the door up the back steps and there is a dude checking id's. If you go all the way around the back is like the couches loungey part. Check it out if your ever in Rome. Dinner was steakhouse though I had a shrimp dish.10 points

This is a half hour from my house so I thought, why not? Never been. Super old-fashioned little family ski hill. Lodge is from the 60s. Love the lodge. Smells like feet. Muddy gravel parking lot. Plus points. Their lifts are old. A fleet of 1960s Hall double chairs. It was a ten minute ride on the slower double chair to go whatever, like 300ish vertical feet. The other side of the hill has a double chair geared a little faster. More like a 3 minute ride. They don't clear the lift line properly and the trees on either side have pretty much grown over the lift which makes for a cool tunnel-like effect as you ride up. Not gonna be great when one of those weak-ass poplars splits and brings the lift down. Snow was great. Packed powder. Super grippy and fun. I grabbed a fat Japan air on the sweet jump they built. Fun day. Ski patrol man yelled at me to put the safety bar down.8 points

Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 720am and the temperature was in the lower teens under Sunny sky’s with moderate winds. In the house was everybody except Toast, Justo, Zonked and Falco. Second civilian OG six pack. I started on challenge and the left side was a little rolly polly and the right side pretty smooth. Skied that three times then nightmare dreamweaver which was pretty nice. Up the quad to coming soon which was pretty terrible..they blew really wet snow and did a crappy job grooming..Main Street was nice and I skied a few laps on that then back to challenge and nightmare dreamweaver and a final run on Switchback which was ok, still a little chunky. I didn’t ski Sidewinder because it looked bad and was bad. Crowds were a bit more than a normal weekend but not that insane…a couple minute liftline…lifts were stopping a bit. Fun parking lot, had a White Castle slider thanks to BenM, some cheese balls and a couple beers. I ended up hanging with Matt Edge and Harold at the end and then TP4…then went into the bathroom and the line for the ladies room was like 30 people long..if you have yellow fever would be a good place to hangout.. When going back to my car to leave there was quite the argument apparently people who just arrived were not happy at how wide somebod parked and tried to fit into a tiny spot and guy was getting upset and arguing back and forth and almost a physical fight. I recorded some of it on my phone…then I just said,”I’m leaving just take my spot”. Im likely skiing tomorrow AM, I have work but my boss doesn’t care if I show up late. JADIP8 points

Awesome day. The kid loved the fresh snow and had a good time in winter adventure camp. I enjoyed how light the snow was compared to Tuesday. Wish that band would have came across a little more north Thanks to Enjo for the delicious protein in the lot Pic2- While picking up the kid we got a kick out of tubing only making it down ~60% of the hill. Looked like more walking than sliding4 points

Woke up at 5 to find it hat snowed 8-10....Shoveled driveway/walks/deck.....Road didn't look bad though....Don't get many chances to do non resort riding so I made my way to Pulpit Rock trail/road...Arrived around 8....Maybe 4 cars in the parking lot....About 30 with a brisk breeze...Absolutely fantastic skin up...Clouds broke for some blue sky.....The ride down was super floaty....At the bottom I put the skins back on and went around the reservoir and up the blue trail to the AT...Skinned back until it the trail had some pitch and was able to ride it back to the car ....Total distance 6.3 miles....Elevation gain 1385'....Somethin about earning your turns just feels good...One of the best days....4 points

Used to have a tiny 1990 Honda civic junker. Took great pleasure in squeezing into spots in ski areas where people parked just close enough together that they thought someone couldn’t park between them. Usually high end vehicles.2 points

Came back for some more First Tracks this holiday weekend. Managed 10 runs before the lift lines grew longer than 60 seconds when the public peasant tickets started scanning. ROTD was Marjis and Cliffhanger with some lovely groomed packed powder cord. All in all JADIP. First tracks is the deal on the weekends.2 points

It’s the sense of entitlement everyone has now, “I paid x amount of dollars to be here so I should be able to do whatever I want”. With no due regard to anyone around them or the safety implications of their actions.2 points

I first came to Utah in 2000 with all 30 some members of my family and for at least a decade straight a group of us came every year so I for sure will always have massive rose colored glasses for Mormon adjacent skiing. I left Newark yesterday at 7am Est and was skiing at 1245 MST. They got 5 inches the night before and no one was home, so I ripped the big dog groomers where fun and low effort intersect. Keno, Tycoon, Naboob they have endless fast interesting medium pitch groomers served by endless high speed lifts. I had to be back at the airport to pick up family members but I racked up 17 runs of by far the best snow I've skied all year. We went Thai from in town and I ate mad Penang curry and passed out fat and happy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was supposed to snow like an inch overnight but we woke to it nuking and six inches on the ground. Massive, wet, PNW like flakes it was most definitely very un-Joseph Smith like. My brother and I were out the house early on a mission to get Steins untracked, we found 30% water, mariana trenching snow. It's kinda windy windy and the snow is coming down 2" an hr kinda hard so vis is negative ray Charles on the skate from the top of Wasatch. I can find it in my sleep but I almost end up down Powderhorn it's all just white. All my money is on finding the pines on the left before the first headwall. The wind is coming over the back and left side will be plump if I can find some vis. Left side trees show up right before my luck runs out and bam its on. Boot deep chunder turns, where the snow comes off in sheets. My brother who was 15ft behind me is who the fuck knows where, you still can't see shit but I'm not stopping. , Where it's normally hot to trot its all straight down the fall line and you can jump off everything........ Best run since I went to the pnw and I still can't see anyone out. Peeps did eventually show up but until 1pm or so we did nothing but untracked........... Easy right off Ontario bowl nobody home, all of lady Morgan except the green nobody home, pretty much anything in the woods nobody was home. My brother claimed best sleeper day since the Pow Mow days. It was the sloppiest snow I've ever seen in UT and it was so, so, so much fun. Dinner was low key Italian from the place at the St Regis top golf because we ate mad seafood at Rime for lunch. All of my pics look like the second one just white and trees but my brother got one of me later in the day so you know I'm not joshing.1 point

Started the day with 4 or so inches on the ground, vis continued to be most excellent. It snowed like the dickens until 130/2, more pnw style but a touch drier than previous. Being reasonable and prudent above all we went exploring, the first two where pure pow pow bliss. In getting there I skied the slowest I've ever skied in the modern era, from the end of the protective cornice above Sultan to the top of Steins you couldn't see the tips of your skis. Out in the boonies we found super good windblown but out involved a mine field with enough fluff on top you couldn't tell what the was underneath. All was club super sex and then the next second your getting bucked to the moon. We escaped back into the friendly confines and the trees until I thought my legs would explode. Once the snow stopped the clouds put on a multi layer show but the wind had gotten so bad Empire and Lady Morgan closed at 3. With the other high lifts right behind them we sought refuge and chilled at the Montage. Highly recommend the hot chocolate and cookies downstairs but don't be surprised by the boot donkeys asking to take your boots off for you.1 point

To avoid situations like that, blue needs to close the entrance to the main lot when they begin using the auxiliary lot across the street. Wait til like 25 morning people leave then reopen the main lot. Half the people arriving at noon go to the main lot instead of the auxiliary lot and just circle endlessly, causing traffic issues while the almost fight was between a 7:30am arrival and a noon arrival, there shouldn’t be noon arrivals circling the main lot to begin with1 point

I can't believe there was a fight over a parking spot. One time I parked my Sonic in an extremely tight spot, and I didn't even get in a brawl.1 point

It’s like anything they always need to recruit new members every year like police, fire, teachers…my uncle was on ski patrol at Jack Frost and enjoyed it..I believe for the commaraderie. At Blue most patrollers are volunteer a few are professionals. At major resorts it’s a full time seasonal job, there are even ski patroller unions. I spent dozens of lift rides with concussion Ted from when he went from a civilian to a ski patroller and pros and cons are. Pros to being on ski patrol: Cut the liftlines, first tracks…free skiing and for family it’s either free or almost free. Pro discounts on gear, camaraderie, thursday night parties..Jimmy told me ski patrol at Blue used to have end of season keggers next to lazy mile. Women like men in uniform. Cons: all the classes, training, drills, testing…long shifts in all weather, dealing with the public…1 point

Woke up at 4am for a bathroom trip and glanced down the hallway towards my dining room and thought I saw a tom of snow on my deck railing. I laughed and convinced myself that I was half asleep. Woke up at 6 and looked out. ??? No way! I went outside and guessed a foot. 26° and lightweight stuff. 8 Or so plowed out and it was over the top of my 12” plow! Decided to head a few miles south to a nature reserve where I hike from time to time. I was surprised to find only 6” Plan B a few miles North to Emmaus South mountain nature preserve where I toured probably 8 years ago. I was a bit disappointed to find a lot more brush than the last trip. I headed east a little more and found some more friendly area. It cliffed out and I had to detour. Only did 2 miles, the snow got considerably heavier than this morning.1 point

Really nice day up at Montage. Probably the most crowded I have ever seen the place but 75% of the people were on the learning hill. Lots of buses. I thought they started allowing uphill but it was just gapers trying to get off of the harder trails because they got lost. Long Haul was running and I rode that for the first time in my life since it was never open every other time that I have been there. Even thought the lifts there are slow, I can't really complain about the place. The snow was great and the trails are a lot of fun there. Nice to get back there and always a good time. 8.5/10 for a PA day.1 point

Forgot to mention the parking situation. Plow trucks didn’t really plow the area. All 12 of us had to dig out some spots, took a while. Then we had to park like Tetris so we all fit. One girl got pretty stuck and 4 of us had to push her out. Morning of departure I got really stuck as someone not w our group pulled in and left me very little space to get out. I cut it too hard and dug my wheel into a snow bank. Luckily a snowmobiling bro was kind enough to pull me out w a tow strap. jammed in parking and one dead battery.1 point

Whew, just finished up a hut based AIARE 2 course ( the last in the series). I learned so much and all the snow science is really fascinating. Prior to this course I only used the CAIC website as a resource. I realize now that there are so many factors to look at and consider. I also have learned that there are ways to mitigate exposure even on higher avalanche days. Red Mountain Pass was closed for about 40 hours from the storm. So the first day we did companion rescue practice in a meadow behind the town of Silverton. At a certain point in the beacon rescue you have to get out of your skis. Postholing to mid thigh every rescue was really exhausting. We were finally able to get up to the hut that evening. Day 2 was a light tour and mostly digging pits. Day 3 was definitley a “full value” day. We toured into US Basin. The weather was sort of sunny to start then got stormy. We observed some remote triggered smaller avalanches from a distance. We mapped out a tour plan from Cal Topo and set a track in virgin snow to get there. Roughly 100cm. The ski down was very fun. Had to transition to skins at the end which is always somewhat annoying. today was a day of just fun touring as we officially met the requirements of the class yesterday and requested to just take off. We are both dead tired. High altitude sleeping, bad eating due to low appetite poor sleep and I have had enough. Currently at Ouray brewery waiting for my giant burger.1 point
