  1. Damn it. It’s like a Morgan Freeman thing where I read it in JLaw’s voice which made it. Picturing GSS making that crack gets followed by his 2 honking laughs and hiding the nearest children. Most excellent conditions tonight. Saw mBike in the lot and skied with DirtWolf and Blake. Lazy was my ROTN, let them run. Will be sad to see it wash away until Thursday

  3. A few weeks ago I won Platty vouchers at the Tele Colo movie and figured what better way to celebrate World Telemark Day on Tele Sunday. The ride up on the back roads yielded a mix of sun, clouds and fog along with a bald eagle snatching up a squirrel along root 42. Arrived to a socked in Platty with the sun trying to burn thrugh but it never quite happened, temps in the mid / upperer 50's. Started on the double and ended up lapping Blockbuster. Although the entrance was a little spicy there was good coverage once you got onto the trail. bumps (*) on the left side were soft and manageable. Short beer/water break and then rode the face off the triple, good coverage and mix of nice spring snow with some sticky man made here and there. Tele'd until lunch, chicken pesto wrap and ascension pils were bangin'. Legs were cooked after ten tele runs so clamped down the heels for another 4 or 5 in the afternoon. Nice day with a beverage stop as Catskill Brewery on the way home, love that place! * bumps photo credit lifted from @Harvey at nyskiblog - i couldn't find the sun lol

  4. My understanding is that one crew of two people can run just about any train now. Even if there are two locomotives they are hooked up so that they are controlled by the first one. There's also a new trend of putting two locomotives in the middle of a mile plus long train that are controlled by the one in the front as well. So in that situation there could be a crew of two running 4 engines, two of which are 3/4 of a mile behind them.

  5. They have been running with minimal crews lately because of increased technology. usually a minimum of two but it depends and the load, the length, and destination usually. There are not specific crews for each engine.

  6. High speed lifts at Elk would destroy the snow quality, scenery, and lack of crowding on the slopes, which is why I go there anyway... I don't even know if there is enough room for detachable terminals at the summit. Funny how the old Hall doubles keep chugging along as one does but their quad seems to have most of the issues

  9. Kneisel Magic star . 82/63/76 180 s I haven’t been able to find much information on them. I found them at a yard sale 15yrs ago $15.00 still in plastic. I mounted some old tyrolia 350’s . There’s hardly a scratch on them. I’ve only skied on them three or four times.

  10. Arrived at 9 after an uneventful trek down 6 and 81. Ticket line was long with only 2 windows open and they were running a forklift through the line against OSCA regulation(assuming). They had a bunch of people going different directions for the breakdown and clean up after the concert yesterday. Beer cans and bottles everywhere. Started at Iron Horse with plans to run Fast Track all the way down but we couldn’t get to it without skating uphill. With 3 boarders and 3 kids in the group, that wasn’t going to happen. All the main runs were open, some with thin coverage, but the connectors and little trails in the woods are closed. Def had to skate a little more than usual trying to get places. Ended up going down the terrain park to Lower FT for the first run. Only did Runaway for the other lower slope and never made it over to Phoebe. I wanted to at least show them Boomer but the kids were having a fun on Easy Street with the side cuts. Weather was warm but cloudy all day. No lift lines or under a minute across the hill. The Salami Slalom was going on and got a kick out of watching from along Haul. Open entry for unlimited runs and just had to get two times the closest or exact for victory. Last pic we enjoyed someone parking perpendicular to every other car in the lot. Zero fucks given

  11. Yes yes after we ski Rajeev sister Jaya make us good goat…she can tell us about the Hill stations in Gulmarj and paint red dots on our forehead.

  12. Boo had comments similar after seeing the snow base and lot/lift set ups. The kids also now appreciate the detachable lifts at Blue compared to getting their legs smacked from fixed grips.

  13. That’s exactly what I was thinking…Rajeev in the middle. Would be like the reverse of an Oreo cookie. @toastman might wanna come.

  14. That would be grate. Since the lift has 3 seats Rajeef Gupta can sit in the middle with his Burton snowbord on and we can catch up on what's new at the hill station in Mumbai and if it is in monsoon season there

  20. In my research on the Ikon, you get the rest of this season at resorts owned by Alterra. So, Stratton and Sugarbush in VT. This was based on last years pass, so, there could be some changes this year.

  21. Ikon is usually $150-200 more then Epic

  22. Im gonna need some pretty serious spreadsheets to figure this out. Runs per hour/miles driven X cost of cocoa(x2). There needs to be a lot of columns to break this down properly.

  23. I’m not train savvy. How many people does it take to operate? My wife and I had a discussion the other night about there being two locomotives. Is the second one connected electronically or is there a separate crew?

  24. That's not terrible. I'm interested in seeing the Ikon pass prices before making any decisions

  28. @GrilledSteezeSandwich now for the Internet conspiracy theory. No OT allowed, and all of the under 40 hrs staff was on the wrong side of the mountain and couldnt get in because of road closures. Not that i give it much merit, but new owners and stuff……

  29. Another 6-8” overnight. Did a nice little morning ski from my front door. My side of the neighborhood is always last to be plowed. Here is what my street looked like. A little less work on the return as I used my own tracks My dog loves to just chill in the snow I think Aspen recorded 24”. We got a solid 16-18” in 36 hours Double post of this pic I can’t seem to delete

  31. Drove up to our AirBnB in Pleasant Mount last night with no issues. House is 3 miles back on dirt roads which we weren’t expecting. Take out from the Speakeasy Saloon was good. Burgers and Buff Chix pizza were stars but the calamari and loaded fry appetizers missed the mark. Up first thing but radar was all hunter green and sucked. Plan was to wait for a gap and the hourly said it was 2-6. Upper lot was open when we showed up at 1230 and got to park close. New this year was buy one get one tickets compared to free comped tickets from The Warren Miller film. We’re here with another family and it came to $293 for the day. The one you have to buy is an 8 hour ticket(~$90) plus 3 RFID cards, even though we would have been fine with the 4 hour pass but that’s the deal. 80% of the people on the hill were racers for an event. Up Seneca for the first lift and then we hung on the quad side to avoid the racers. Couple trails had zero snow lookers left but most had edge to edge coverage. Upper Tunkhannock was closed but lower was open and I love slutting it up for the lift. Started skiers left and worked our way over until soaked through around 5. All hero snow and a good time. Thought about doing the doll house here but no PASR discount is wild. House ended up with a precious moment shrine anyway. Over to Montage tomorrow.

  32. Conditions are fantastic. Big soft bumps on boomer. Blew snow on most other trails, white lightning and smoke are really good.

  33. Out with the grandkids today. Got there at noon, it was starting to clear out. Parked slope side close to lodge. Lodge not at all crowded. Half dozen runs on the beginner chair. Ready to ski with leashes next time. French fries and hot chocolate afterwards. Good time had by all. Watched the kids in the lodge while mom and dad did adult ski.

  36. Keeping the North Face open in April (ala Superstar at Killington) would likely be a marketing bonaza for them. I'm sure that every TV News station within 150 miles would have a van there covering it live. With opening about a month late, I'm sure that many season pass holder's would not be crazy about the extra $10.00. Maybe $20 or $25 for non pass holders would be a better idea. What's all the construction that they need to close the upper slopes for? The addition to the lodge? Any word on the new trails and lift? Will it be a Quad or 6-Pack? I'm planning on being at Sno on Sunday. I'm expecting spring conditions but they should still be good. Doesn't look like there will be a freeze to ice things up after the non-frozen precipitation.
