Hey All, I’m back from a fun bonus day of skiing at Blue mountain the true mountain. After a grueling 2 hours of work, I headed up to the hill and arrived at 11:45AM. It was in the mid 30s under mostly sunny skies. In the house were Atomic Jeff, Bethlehem ford Guy, Harold and a couple hundred boomers. Quite the line for the quad at 1155am. This is the first and only noon opening. First run on Razors and they did a fine job grooming with smooth cord with a little ungroomed manmade mainly the lower 2/3 of the run..a little sticky in spot but overall not bad. I only skied Razors and each run the headwall had more churned up cookies and the middle section was becoming more boilerplate. The weather was great the only issue was that the quad was stopping for about five minutes every run which led to an almost full Corral liftline a few times. I skied for a bit over an hour then hungout in the lot a little bit drinking beer and now back at work mainly to take in the mail and count money. I likely will be back Sunday morning for the 9am opening. JADIP8 points

Made it up after work for a short session. The photo shoot was weird and there was a surprising number of beginners out of their element. Saw way more people walking than expected between the struggle on the flats and newbies going down the expert terrain. One guy asked me on the lift if my Black Crows were a special edition for the band… Talked to an employee/friend that said the quad was stopping because they had a big gap up top between the wood and snow. Apparently it was ready to go and then melted and people were eating it. Had to call a cat out to fix it7 points

Decided on Castlerock Peak grand reopening after closing for the season twice already. It had reopened for the storm 2 weeks ago and closed again shortly after until today. From the friends I made on the chair this was the best this peak has been this year. This is now the best powder day I've had in my life, absolutely Ikonic preserved 16-18" on the peaked other than the ridge hikers from yesterday afternoon at 2pm when Heavens Gate opened. Although I am not a fan of lines. On a day like today I appreciate why this is an intentional crazy wide spaced double chair. It keeps the drop in traffic to a very minimum by design, JADIP. 20240322_131820.mp46 points

Impromptu road trip to West Mountain for some random hill skiing today. Super reminiscent of the old Blue Mountain vibe. Small place with not a lot open but thanks to Indy I got to check it out. I love these little gems that remind me of what skiing used to be. The snow was nice. Coverage good in some spots, thin in others, non existent on a few trails. A lot of fun runs here and fully open would be a total blast. If anybody gets the chance to swing by this joint I’d recommend. JADIP?5 points

Tonight has been quite enjoyable and coverage is actually pretty great for what's open all things considered. That one area in airheads pic is probably the worst of it. No cookies semi-soft but sticky kind of snow not bad at all. Not crowded but it feels kind of crowded because most people are hanging out on either nightmare dream or razors. Just did a Burma run that was actually quite enjoyable maybe my best Burma run of the year LOL4 points

In Ferris Buehlerian style I postponed work and hit the road for a super exclusive xxxlub in the Skills. Somehow it's winder than Blue, like every trash can must be in the Hudson windy but the bright sun makes it warm. While technically snowing it's so light it evaporates as quickly as it appears. For an exclusive xxxxluub the lodge looks like the first class lounge at the Scranton Wilkes-Barre international Airport circa 1973.....which I kinda love. Appropriate for the greater Winkle area the upper mtn pod has been asleep foprp a bit and it's the lower quad and the sixer thatmnemonic goes to the other nipple top. The quad pod had 3 legit ways down all pretty much variations of lazy mile. While excellent look out the window skiing probably not the thrill your looking for. The sixer pod though was the star of the show with 9 or 10 legit ways down, all good smooth super grippy snow. A short shot called the wall held soft moguls but I thought the best was one called like maverick and wheelchair, trail maps don't concern me. Long razors like straight shots with nobody home I mostly ran those. Around 230 being the good worker I am, I decided it best to get to work and now I'm driving past the scenic lamington River. Super good day and worth checking out during the week, particularly if you have an ikon.4 points

Friday last day Another ☀️☀️☀️day. Snow shower came through just after close. Nice day. Started with some Mineral laps as that gets the sun first. Then sone plays over in Little Cloud area. Rasta chutes etc. The northeast facing aspects seemed to hold that nice chilly snow during this freeze/thaw cycle. After lunch getting into Cirque Ave some other fun stuff off the path. West Baldy, Peruvian area lots of goodies in there. Then to finish the day with some live music in the plaza 🍺 Forecast for snow tomorrow afternoon. 😢. I really thought about changing flight to red eye to get another day in but honestly, We all are pretty wiped out. Was pretty good and fun week even though snow conditions were not what you’d expect here but weather is always a roll of dice in trip planning3 points

@Johnny Law remember that guy Ricky from the parking lot about 4 years ago who swore we were in the slopeside bar and grew tired of my small talk lol me and atomic Jeff rode the lift with somebody just like him. He started out on my left at the back of quad line then ended up on same chair on the right with a random skier. He had stories of racing 12 people down lazy mile and talked about how skiers hate corn snow but snowboarders like it and the lift stopped for about 6 minutes which gave him more time to go on. I kind of feel like jimmy would one up him with tales of when they had a keg on the side of lazy mile lol.2 points

Another beautiful day here before the snow comes in later tonight. Skinned up the Elk Camp side of Snowmass in a t-shirt today. Was 49 degrees when I got back to my car. I like this route. Not quite as hard as Tiehack. Just under 2 miles and 1300’+ elevation gain. Made it up in exactly 1:30. Had a quick lunch at the top of the gondola and skied back down. Light crowds, snow was mushy and soft.2 points

Looks great man. Thank you. I've always been intrigued by west mountain mainly because it looks cool from the road en route to Whiteface.2 points

West Mountain is worth hitting on the way up or back from central/northern Vermont or Gore or Whiteface. When it's 100% open it has a lot of fun runs. Especially on the Northwest side. Skis bigger than it looks. Lines never get too long even on weekends.2 points

Today started with a nice snow shower. I hope the crew over in Park City has a piece of that. It softened the surface up enough to make fir a very fun day. Visibility up top was pretty bad most of the day. The mountain staff posted signs “Experts Only” so I think that scared off the tourists bad the lift lines in Mineral were pretty short. 👍 The most fun for me was getting into some of the chutes and trees over in Little Cloud area, My post yesterday was a wet avalanche debris. Kind of scary.2 points

Some funky snow for sure, not corn, not sugar, not slush - rode the lift with a montage instructor and she called it doughy which I thought was pretty good adjective. Fun just the same1 point

What a fun day. A big thank you to all the snow makers, groomers, lifties and ski patrol and all the staff at Blue that made it happen. I knew it would be a great day when the bald eagle made a low flight against the blue sky above us while we were booting up. Magnificent sight.1 point

I like that you’re just hanging out at snowbird and not hitting a bunch of other places. Bird is the word in Utah. TBH I’d like to do a bird only trip soon. Lots to explore there.1 point

i could have sworn that they basically have a cooling system to get the water to a lower than pond temperature. maybe that has something to do with it. also weather went from 'Heavy Rain' to just 'Rain' on sat. so thats good... i guess1 point
