  1. Hey All, It’s almost opening day and opening weekend. In two and a half short days, Blue mountain the true mountain opens for their 48th season. They snowmaking cannons have been going balls to the walls for several days and continued seasonably cold weather with periods of sun and clouds will persist throughout the weekend. Anybody planning on skiing this weekend or are yall waiting until more terrain opens? I’m planning on being there…and I think it’s gonna be a nice opening weekend. I usually don’t start these threads until Wednesday but I’m so Excited….

  2. They opened one park? Holy vert batman, i should have taken off today. I take back the Burger King crown (and i really like BK) to present to you the notorious big crown for opening like 4700 running feet of slopes. The crown lights up when you ski good too.

  3. Actually 90 seconds down, 7 minutes up. Turns per run varied from 23 to 44 on 167 skis. JF lifts were a lot faster than Blue’s today. 😎

  4. First day. Cameras when the slope opened. One park and a couple of greens on the west side open. Maybe 50 people there in the morning. A couple of rails at the top of one park, otherwise the slope was open. Pretty wide without features on it. Good conditions, nice and firm, didn’t deteriorate at all as the morning went on. A couple people skiing the trees and the edge of Exhibition. DJ tent near the lodge, new music speakers in the lodge. Mellow vibe. New CARV sensors worked well. Top Ski IQ today was 130, top speed 36. IMG_0278.mov

  8. Here’s a blast from the pasr past…remember when that dude got angry at blue because they used generic ski pics that had Rocky Mountains in the background. That was a hoot. He said it was false advertising. Then there was the guy that was mad that blue kept the lights on all night.

  9. Anyone know why every time I go to redeem my buddy passes I get this stupid page? Is it because they haven’t opened yet?

  10. Ya there was enough natural and windblown from the guns to cut a few fresh lines close to the tree line on the adjacent trail. Coverage was excellent, firm and quick but no boilerplate spots. Absolutely empty. Won’t be there tomorrow, next is Blue on Friday. They’re supposed to get 1-3” tonight into tomorrow, you should have a stellar morning.

  11. Cranking out the runs today, I see. Doing some tree skiing? Yell if you see a geezer in a green and black helmet and orange Volkl skis tomorrow morning.

  12. And it was goood. A flat box, skinny milly tube on a spine and double barrel rail. Perfect warm up for Blue The True Friday!

  13. It’s a little weird being back at the mountain and not patrolling this year, and I fully expected my first day to be at Sunday River, but a cold and other circumstances led me over to Sugarbush, and it just so happens it was opening day. It was a 3 hour drive from the in-laws in NH, and I had some family obligations to take care of, so I didn’t get into the parking lot and PLB until about 1:30. Crowds had either cleared out or were non existent. I hopped on the lift and ran into an old ski patrol buddy at the top, so we took a couple runs together. There were only 2 distinct runs with a third side run. All skiing was off the Gatehouse lift, so in reality, both trails that were open share the same starting trail and same ending trail. Regardless, conditions were excellent for late in the day on opening day. I expected similar conditions to previous years where it’s basically glacial ice with some granular bumps and icy troughs on the side. Surprisingly, only about 10 feet right in the middle was iced up. The rest was a mix of packed powder and groomed snowmaking. I guess the snow last week, combined with consistent below freezing temps and no warmup really paid off. I took 6 runs, going with a 66%/34% split on the two trails. It was great getting the legs warmed up and catching up with an old friend. Looks like 3” or more tomorrow at opening, so I’ll be looking to get after it before I head back to NH.

  17. They have One Park open with a towering 400’ vertical descent. That’s like 50% more than Vista lift for you BlueBees.

  18. it took you 90 seconds to get down Powderpuff?

  19. maybe, but working on getting that open later means they don't have to run, pay for or staff the quad this wknd.

  22. Pretty socked in at the base right now with that snow cloud. Agree with @DiMe... I think we will get lower main and midway. I have a hard time believing that they would open without those runs. In other news, I went up last night to take a quick look and it is hard to tell but they may have been blowing on lazy.

  27. Pretty sure no blackout dates but there does need to be capacity. Buddy pass essentially acts like a voucher to make the cart $0 when you are checking out, so there's gotta be a ticket available to put in the cart.

  29. it should be themed. Switchback is cool because it pays homage to local history. They should continue that there with that pod over there. I’m thinking “Mauch” and “Chunk” would be like the front two (like goat and Starr at Stowe). They can call the intersection that crosses in the middle “Route 209”. Then for the others, there could be Mollys run (for Molly McGuires of course)…Molly's of course would be a nice cruiser. they could a name a race trail “Olympian” to honor the man himself (Jim Thorpe), and BMR folks could migrate out that way and give razors back to the gen pop. if there are beginner trails in the new pod, they can name them to honor our local cuisine. There could be “Pierogi and French fry”….the teaching hill. And when you advance past “PFF” you move to “Yueng’s and Wings” the intermediate, the next level trails for newbs. @Blue Mountain call me…I have lots of good ideas
