It’s a little weird being back at the mountain and not patrolling this year, and I fully expected my first day to be at Sunday River, but a cold and other circumstances led me over to Sugarbush, and it just so happens it was opening day. It was a 3 hour drive from the in-laws in NH, and I had some family obligations to take care of, so I didn’t get into the parking lot and PLB until about 1:30. Crowds had either cleared out or were non existent. I hopped on the lift and ran into an old ski patrol buddy at the top, so we took a couple runs together. There were only 2 distinct runs with a third side run. All skiing was off the Gatehouse lift, so in reality, both trails that were open share the same starting trail and same ending trail. Regardless, conditions were excellent for late in the day on opening day. I expected similar conditions to previous years where it’s basically glacial ice with some granular bumps and icy troughs on the side. Surprisingly, only about 10 feet right in the middle was iced up. The rest was a mix of packed powder and groomed snowmaking. I guess the snow last week, combined with consistent below freezing temps and no warmup really paid off. I took 6 runs, going with a 66%/34% split on the two trails. It was great getting the legs warmed up and catching up with an old friend. Looks like 3” or more tomorrow at opening, so I’ll be looking to get after it before I head back to NH.6 points

Bear creek is on indy pass now too. Not super exciting but I try to go a few times a year since it's close, so it's nice that it'll be included5 points

We did indeed get a few inches last night. Right now schools at a 2 hour delay but I wouldn’t be surprised if they updated it to a full on snow day.3 points

Hey All, It’s almost opening day and opening weekend. In two and a half short days, Blue mountain the true mountain opens for their 48th season. They snowmaking cannons have been going balls to the walls for several days and continued seasonably cold weather with periods of sun and clouds will persist throughout the weekend. Anybody planning on skiing this weekend or are yall waiting until more terrain opens? I’m planning on being there…and I think it’s gonna be a nice opening weekend. I usually don’t start these threads until Wednesday but I’m so Excited….2 points

Yeah it’s pretty slick up here. We had someone stop over earlier who came in from stroudsburg a she called it “a different world” up here because of the snow. Reminded me of this song.1 point

It's not as cold today with the front still coming through. I see a temp of 27F with 75% humidity which isn't a great wet bulb temp. Vail absolutely does NOT run mountains as local mountains. They run the whole thing as a system to certain mountains' detriment, JF included. Maybe that will slowly change as the JF managers get more familiar with the mountain and the locals, but I am not holding my breath. Although I will admit they have done slightly better year by year since 2020/2021.1 point

Did this start working for you? If not, maybe try copying the voucher code, then click Voucher Redemption right off the main menu when you click the hamburger menu, under contact us, and put the code in on that page. Not sure, but worth a try.1 point

Woke up this morning with about an inch on the ground. That last squall that just came through dropped another inch or two. Now the forecasted high winds are starting.1 point

i feel like Vails MO at JFBB has been to open with a few trails, then blow some snow here and there, but not go balls to the walls to get 100% open asap. i feel like Peak did. i can be wrong on this, but i feel like Blue and Frost get 100% around the same time. It fits Vails business model to kind of pace themselves with snowmaking, the passes they are concerned about selling have already been purchased.1 point

She's outside of Phoenix now. Sedona's my spot. Not as hot as the valley, 65 and sunny in the winter with 250 inches and almost 3k vert 45 minutes to an hour up the road. You get it all there. Although I agree Flagstaff is awesome but housing is so expensive1 point

Here’s a blast from the pasr past…remember when that dude got angry at blue because they used generic ski pics that had Rocky Mountains in the background. That was a hoot. He said it was false advertising. Then there was the guy that was mad that blue kept the lights on all night.1 point

Ya there was enough natural and windblown from the guns to cut a few fresh lines close to the tree line on the adjacent trail. Coverage was excellent, firm and quick but no boilerplate spots. Absolutely empty. Won’t be there tomorrow, next is Blue on Friday. They’re supposed to get 1-3” tonight into tomorrow, you should have a stellar morning.1 point

Actually 90 seconds down, 7 minutes up. Turns per run varied from 23 to 44 on 167 skis. JF lifts were a lot faster than Blue’s today. 😎1 point

First day. Cameras when the slope opened. One park and a couple of greens on the west side open. Maybe 50 people there in the morning. A couple of rails at the top of one park, otherwise the slope was open. Pretty wide without features on it. Good conditions, nice and firm, didn’t deteriorate at all as the morning went on. A couple people skiing the trees and the edge of Exhibition. DJ tent near the lodge, new music speakers in the lodge. Mellow vibe. New CARV sensors worked well. Top Ski IQ today was 130, top speed 36. IMG_0278.mov1 point

Got my first day in on Snowmass today. Good base compared to this time last year. I took lift alone but for the first one out of the base. Very quiet. Having some knee issues so I was taking it pretty easy. Overall great first day, blue skies, relatively warm and got a baby bump run in too, my favorite.1 point
