I wish I wasn’t even aware of the snow for Sunday. I don’t even go on weather forums anymore and the stuff still finds me. I could care less about it for snowboarding, but it’s potentially lining up to snow right during the eagles game and that has me giddy7 points

Had a great day today at Whitetail. A lot of what Icecoast said is true. Some really icy spots, that we contributed to them blowing water out of the guns and the park lift chair no longer has chairs- just an old lift station with a concrete counterweight. And the layout is really good, everything on skiers right is beginner, gradually work to more difficult terrain as you go to skiers left. The steeps are nice, and blues a little steeper than at home. They had some surprise whales on a couple trails, and light was flat, so hard to see. Got some air off one, - accidentally, but didn’t stick the landing.7 points

Only the first row of slopeside parking was open, because they were expecting 18 buses this afternoon to use the roped off area. They did have a security guard directing people into that row if there were open spaces available. This prevented people from having to back out if there are no spaces. They were grooming out Nightmare/ Dream Weaver, putting in some big features, and they were also working on the broken down groomer on razors edge. Conditions were a lot like yesterday, but with bright sunshine and no wind. Lazy mile was in much better shape than yesterday. Sidewinder was the ROTD, Switch was nice too. First tracks down Paradise was sweet.6 points

Skied Bear Creek last night 4:30-7:15 on the Indy Pass. Conditions were pretty much as described. Nice snow on hardpack. Everything carve-able. Snowed the whole time I was there so the surface got a good inch or so to keep things nice. Lines weren't bad. They opened Lift A in addition to B around 6:30. No race team on Timberline which was pretty empty due to the flat traverse to get to it. Nothing too hard there but not bad for a midweek after work session to stay in shape for bigger mountains.6 points

People around here have been flipping out more than usual over snow this winter. We’ve had 3ish 1 inch storms and you would think they were 1 foot storms. A 3-4 inch storm could shut down the area for days.3 points

Went to Buttermilk yesterday hoping it would be a bit warmer since it’s lower elevation. When I grabbed my skis from the shed they were so cold I could not carry them with bare hands. Been -10 here every morning for about a week. Temps were 12 when I arrived, 16 when I left BRR. Buttermilk was uneventful but quiet. Today was due to be warmer so went to Snowmass. Used the parking lot for the pass I bought for the first time. It is literally right next to the lift! Amazing. It’s the other, quiet side of the mountain. Dumps you off at top of elk camp Gondola. I took the second elk camp chair to the top, never been up there (Snowmass is absolutely huge). Really pretty views. that lift is about 1500’ of vert. Ended up at the bottom of Village express not meaning to, just meandering around. It was a gorgeous bluebird day and 30 degrees when I got back to the car. My plan is to cross country ski somewhere local tomorrow. Deep freeze coming in Sat-Tue. Temps due to be -30 at night, real temp not wind chill temp.3 points

Did a rare brunch time session at Blue ..11-1...Everything was pretty much spot on. Beautiful day to have some fun on the snow...Most of the time you could turn it up and live the moment...Crowded at base but riding single I never waited more than a couple...Some bits of glacier showing through at Falls/TCS/Bottom of Switch when I left.. Talked to an old dude(with Euro accent) at the top of Switch cross country skiing. Said he regularly goes from top lodge to OG6 via connector/Tuts lane..Asked him if ski patrol ever stopped him. To that said why would they. I told him of Blues policy then talked skiing.. Next time down Tuts he was talking to a patroller...2 points

I got tickets from work for the game but gave them back. I don't feel like dealing with a snowy turnpike and it's warmer on my couch.2 points

Not sure if things have changed but they pretty much never had anyone checking the pool/verifying it’s only hotel guests in it. I’ve been in it before. Tossed a suit in a backpack, walked into the bathroom/locker room near the bar and changed, went out and hopped in the pool no issues at all. It’s a nice spot to relax after a day/night of riding. It’s a fun drive in a well handling vehicle though (in good weather). It is NOT a fun drive in the snow. Back in college in 2013ish my buddy and I made close to $150 pulling people out of the ditches with his jeep on our way to ride bear during one of those large snowstorms that year. I believe it was 2013, could have been 2012.2 points

I skied there once in the pouring rain. Reminded me of big boulder but with a nice hotel and lodge. It’s good if you’re close I guess.2 points

BC is a fun mountain, I learned to ski there when I was in my mid 40’s 😳. So has a special place in my heart. They’ve always made good snow. The runs leave a little to be desired. I’ve always wanted to stay in the hotel and swim in the outdoor heated pool in the winter.2 points

Just got back. Everything was good. I’m giving it a 9.7. The inch or two of fairy dust that fell from the sky made things pretty consistent throughout. Mostly chalky with a ton of grip. Not the fastest snow in the world but it didn’t matter. Even did a run through sleepy hollow for stoke. I’m assuming school groups canceled so the crowds were minimal with maybe 3 or 4 buses total. I thought it may be good when I left and saw how sketch the roads were. Took me and 15 minutes or so longer than normal keeping it in third pretty much the whole way. Our school just announced a 2 hour delay tomorrow. Fun night for sure. Ski you all on Sunday.2 points

Thanks aside from the rare boner doner pow days…cold like this current season as good as it gets for ski areas in MASH mid Atlantic ski hell. I actually appreciate blue more now than I was younger. While I’m not that fussy about ski conditions, I’ll gladly trade longer runs and consistent pitch almost almost everything I’ve skied the Hobacks at Jackson hole on garbage conditions many times and rather have that than bear creek at its best2 points

Today was super good! Arrived around 1:30 to falling snow and light crowds. The boys were busy building pioneer park and the whales on nightmare dreamweaver are looking like they’re about ready for a build too. Snow kept coming down till I left at 4:30. I spent most of my time lapping Come Around to Yeti but went to check out Coming Soon, Lazy Mile, Curzis, and Upper to Lower Main all of which had a lovely packed powder surface. Little to no concern of ice spots this afternoon. Groomer still broken down stuck on Razors keeping it closed. If it opens tomorrow it will be ROTD for you morning people without any doubt. Look for me tomorrow🤘 All in all JADIP.2 points

BC has the second lowest average natural snowfall total in the state (21 inches) ahead of only Spring Mountain (11 inches). That's averaged over the last ten seasons. Fun fact.2 points

I think it had one pretty steep run. My son was in a race there over 15 years ago and one of the racers crashed and burned and got pretty messed up. If I recall correctly, he was helicoptered out. Had a nice WPA type lodge with a bunch of people using straight skis.1 point

I agree with Paulie, Blue does groom too much. They should groom early to level off the snow and push the scraped stuff back towards the middle, then just blow a little on top and leave it. Yes, the runs are VERY short at BC. By the time you get going, you're already at the flat and lift, but it is a great little family/beginner mountain to get you prepared for the mayhem that's Blue. Also having so many intersecting trails is a PITA too.1 point

My friend Paul bitches that Blue grooms too much. I have to wonder if that’s the source of the cookies? The groomer has low surface weight with the width of the tracks but still I think it does compact the snow to a degree. I can’t honestly say I have seen cookies at Bear. Some sugar piles on occasion. I do like the lodge vibe, kinda Steam punk meets Daniel Boone . I go over on occasion to eat at the trails end cafe. Wife likes to walk through the lodge and up the stairs to the hotel top floor and come down and get dinner.1 point

When you get that first arc and you can see, hear and feel it's fucking mint it's like pure electric flowing from the edges directly into your brain. Pretty much everything was good but some where about as good as blue gets. Main in particular you could do any angle or turn shape you wanted at any speed, just absolute bliss. There is still the groomer on Razors and nmdw is probably over as they were blowing whales but it didn't matter at all as everything was just so good. Up against the clock I took three more one more runs and when I ran into boo bear on the way out one half of my brain was trying to con the other half into taking another run. Rare to not get your phil like Mickelson and assuming Fri and Sat don't get too warm could be a good weekend.1 point
