  1. Visited Prospect Mountain today. Opened in 1938 and operated on and off until 1991. About ten years ago it was reopened as a backcountry and nordic ski area. This place is a blast. Lodge straight from the 1960s. Wood paneled everything. Metal wickets for your ticket. Wood fired stove with bricks on top to stick in your stinky wet boots. Homemade cookies at the counter. I got a bowl of chili. There's a designated uphill track straight up the old T-bar lift line. The split board did its job. First time using one. I think I got the hang of it by the end of the day. The mountain tops out at 2770 feet and you get around 600 feet of vertical. A good first test for uphilling since I've never done it before. The trails are still cleared so there's lots of options down from the top, plus a few places where they've thinned out the trees. They're sitting on around 24-36 inches of snowpack right now in the southern Greens. About 8-10 inches fell on Sunday and a couple more last night. Fresh tracks could be had on a lot of the trails. The lift line and two of the wider ways down the mountain seem to get the most traffic. Those were choppy pow but still pretty fun. No real steep sections except for maybe the top of the T-bar tow line. Big old cross country championship thing going on today. Lots of buses in the lot. Place was packed with high schoolers. Girls race was on during my second run. Accidentally came out of a trail onto the race track. I think they rang the cowbell for me. It was all good. Love the split board. Today was tons of fun.

  2. just for fun, i looked at this on GE. I mean, they could do this, (in Red), but thats a shit ton of work, and it would wipe out that little hike park or learning center what ever that is. it doesnt make sense to do all this work and connect it back to P-dise at the pond. it cant go around the pond the other way, unless tubing isnt there any more. if it hooks left and goes in between tubing and the ponds, that area is basically flat VIA topography/elevation map. If they didnt have snowmaking on skier right of P-dise, they cold just mow down the trees on the right some, and make it Snowbasin wide. I can think of like 100 other things Blue needs to "fix" before doing this, so to me just none of this makes any sense to me, but, we are talking about Blue, so.......

  3. I rode the big blue bazooka bubble lift but I didn't get any cameltop. No crowds on a Monday. Snowed hard most of the day. Everything is filled in. Mr Snow has good trees. Never tried them before.

  5. They're in a bad spot and from what I hear, not marked at all by SP. The light is typically flat in that area which makes the rollers disappear until you're on them. If they're going to leave them overnight and open Razor's to the public in the morning, the rollers need to be painted or marked by a lollipop or sticks.

  6. Montage… Home of the steepest trail in PA, a retired moose and old forge pizza. Let’s use this thread to find a date in feb that works for the PASRs to visit. For those without an Indy pass there’s a $40 midweek deal. If mid week doesn’t work than a weekend it is. Either way let’s use this thread to make it happen!

  7. Day 39. -12°F if the sign at the top was to be believed. Snow was slow, so maybe. Managed to crank out 30,350 vertical feet by 2:30, so called it good. Haven't done that since 2014.

  8. The light is flat everywhere in the AM, these things are kind of an issue. i do like the "Brighton - esque" stuff they put on Sidewinder, but i went down that Saturday pretty much trying to do a recon mission that since i really didnt know where they were, and ended up catching one with just a little bit of air and landing on a second just before the lip, and that was a little uncomfortable on the feet for sure. i had no idea about the one on Challenge and rolled the windows up pretty good on that one too. Oh, and even if NMDW has the best snow, there is so much park crap on that now its the dumbest trail on the mountain.

  9. Next time your there peep the long haul, at least the last time I was there it's 4938382 different lift pieces put together with all kinds of fabricated stuff. It's amazing. I don't understand really why there is never anyone there. I get scranton/wb is economically depressed but people go everywhere now and it's a great product. It's so low key you can mess around all day and miss nothing, the bar/restaurant is good and it's cheap. I do think though that its like Elk though in which the low crowds are the major factor. Both can't handle the blue crowd and would be far far far worse due to layout/lifts etc etc etc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If I'm around when you guys go I would definitely go.

  11. I hope they implement a water park, paved parking lots, paid parking, a hotel house lodge, bring in a camel mascot, and rename the mountain "Camelback Jr." That would be rad

  12. Rumors/lift talk has been that since they acquired the plot of land across the street, they were going to move tubing over there and then make the entire lower area a town complex, complete with all the resort amenities. But then again, it'll probably be sold by then...

  13. Kind of like seeding bumps on the the left side of dreamweaver EVER and opening up unmarked on a zero visibility morning?!? 🤪

  14. Tbh I always look at that on razors and wonder if / when someone hits it the wrong way what would happen. Sounds terrible and I hope the person is ok. As much as I like the rollers on side. The flat light can really throw someone off there too. Hopefully no one else gets hurt.

  15. They love riding their snow mobiles all over so why not just ride them up razors...

  16. I have forever wanted to do that. I should have tried harder with the alterra/elk thing. You know you are big time if it makes it to alpo zone or reddit.

  18. As long as it's not a crazy week at work, I'd be in for a Montage day. Monday through Wednesday is $40 lift tickets. Fridays you can rent out one of the tents at Midland for free although there are plenty of other places to sit too. I have 2 Montage tickets I got for half price if anyone needs them for the PASR day, I think they were 40 each

  19. C1er and BFG crew in the house featuring special appearance the Glenn Experiance. Sunny and deliciously empty, I had figured it would be more of the weekend and started a few minutes late because I'm an idiot and wore a different jacket. Everything seemed soft and super nice but I wasn't buying any of it until about a 1/3 of the way down main. Full grip, easy turning cream cheese on top of a wet hard base made for super fast super fun mega slutty arcs. Switch and Raceway were more of the same though a bit harder and midway was ratty from the start somehow. When I switched sides of the hill I ran into Glenn and we put rail road tracks down Challenge, Razors, side and coming soon. While not as nice as main all were more spring like hero snow under blue skies and super sun. My favorite condition is empty bleachers and the best part of the day was all the goof balls were not skiing. Multiple times I'd go main and Glenn switch or similar so that both of us could have the trail to ourselves......I wish the eagles could play in the super bowl everyday ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sketchy lift rumors, I rode up with two snowboard psia master dudes I've never seen before who said they are disconnecting coming soon from pdis. I was highly skeptical but if true that would be a massive improvement.

  22. Will be watching to see what date this lands on, but weekday availability for me will be sparse so unlikely to make it. If a Thursday or Friday (or even weekend) end up working best for most, here is a deal for two tickets for $99, so $50 each isn't terrible either: https://www.getmyperks.com/deals-detail/2028287-montage-mountain-resort-and-waterpark/5cfe03de9e13fb64426a54b38276cec0

  25. There were a lot of cars in the lot when I left, but the expert slopes were still virtually empty. We did make our way over to the beginner/intermediate area to leave and found where all the people were as it was packed. Going through there was like being back at Blue on a Saturday at 11am, dodging families, beginners, etc. Luckily we found the extended Lower Sidewinder-like snake trail that nobody was on so we could avoid the masses to get back to the lodge.

  27. According to the guy skiing with him, he hit one of the ramps wrong, got launched, went through the first of the double fence and stopped tangled in the second fence. He did have broken vertebrae in his neck, but will recover ok. I hit the ramps for the first time today carrying some speed, but was careful to pre jump them.

  28. Day 38. Single digits and high winds again, so upper lifts weren't open until I left. Took a dozen runs and had given up on Chair 1 ever opening, left at noon.
