  1. Currently sitting at a wine bar in Chamonix after 19 hours of travel with no issues. Philly direct to Zurich, train to Geneva, bus to Chamonix, walk. Stopped in the Black Crows store and even though I didn’t buy anything, my new skis were on display in their window and I smiled. Caesar salad at Geneva airport waiting for the bus, charcuterie in chx. The plan is Les Grand Montets tomorrow and then Verbier for 3 days. Maybe Zermatt for the last day.

  2. After learning about the Killington-Pico Interconnect Trail while skiing Pico a few years back I added it to my Ski Bucket List. On Tuesday Mrs. SnoBunSki was doing a PSIA cert at Killington and it being a gorgeous bluebird day, decided to give it a go. I set off from Killington Rams Head to skin up and over to Pico’s Summit Glade, one of my all time favorite trails.. After an easy skin up to the trailhead I cut over to the Interconnect and after some mellow climbing I soon had Killington in the rear view mirror Coverage was good although I was hoping for a snowmobile trail through the woods more than a groomer wide super highway. As I approached the switchbacks just before Pico the snow started thinning and eventually gave way to grass and dirt for a few hundred yards with a great view back to K. Over the saddle the snow picked up again to connect to the Summit Glade trail with a nice view for a bevy, lunch and skin strip. I was looking forward to a challenging spring tele run down Summit Glade but it was not to be had. Temps had risen to the upper 40’s/low 50’s but the bumps had yet to soften so I cut over to the frozen crud on 49er. It softened up about half way down allowing for some fun spring tele turns down to the base. I saw The Bus pulling out just as I got to the base so I hoofed it up to Long Trail Inn to burn some time before the next one, stats below.

  3. On the train to Martigny then 1 transfer to Verbier. I did a good job hydrating while traveling so I'd be ready to ski and threw it all away party rocking late night in Cham. YOLO We planned to let the snow soften up anyway so it worked out. Grabbed a full bus around 11 and was lucky to get a seat. For as warm as it is in town, the snow was nice fluffy chalk up high. Groomers had some skied off spots but we were off piste almost the whole time. Some north facing slops had better soft snow but only found a couple of those zones. Stopped at Plan Joran for bite and beer(have to get back on the horse sometime right?). We talked about doing a skin tour skiers right but we were pushing time to catch our train so we split to get some laps. Still took the rocky traverse across to check it out before they headed up. Did a top(ish) to bottom for the last lap and the legs were screaming. Watch said we finished with a little over 15k vert. Verb tomorrow and mad hungry as it's 8 pm and haven't had dinner yet.

  4. Hey All, I’m back from my first day skiing at Blue since 2/28. I arrived at the lower lot at 835 and it was 35 degrees under partly sunny sky’s with light winds. In the house were Atomic Jeff, Rodney, Airhead and the Bethlehem Ford crew. A little knee pain walking to the lift. First run on Paradise was nice soft cord..I took it slow and got passed by two of the boomers near the bottom. My knee definitely stiff…second run on paradise felt better and I skied a little faster. Then lazy mile which was nice groomed but not as put together and some spring snow at the last corner. After another lazy mile I skied Main Street which was variable and more firm than others. After another a lazy I finished the session with several more paradise runs. By now knew was feeling good and I was skiing almost full speed which felt real nice. The snow was soft and fast and as noted nobody was there. I think Johnny law also came later in the session as I saw his car or a lookalike car in the lot. All in all it’s great to be back it hurts missing 12 days of ski season when it’s winding down, I’ll be back out Saturday AM JADIP

  5. Currently eating way too much at the Capital one lounge in Denver Airport. Flight boards for Spokane in about 2 hours. Not sure what my schedule is for mountains. Lookout pass, lost trail, Silver, and 49 degrees north for sure. Maybe Montana Snowbowl, Whitefish, or Blacktail. Maybe guided fishing one morning or afternoon if I feel like it.

  6. Pretty good day at Silver mountain. They have some pretty steep runs although some of the stuff off lift 4, as well as the North Face, was closed for avalanche risk. The glades that were open were pretty fun and good spacing in the trees. It was a little confusing to get around and I had to avoid the cat tracks since the snow was pretty slow. It was probably 75 degrees at one point, I was drinking beers in a t shirt. Got back to the base area around 3 and did some fishing. The river is running pretty high from the snow melting. I went fishing after dinner too and missed a few fish on dry flies, but there wasn't much action.

  7. Got here shortly after 10. Place is empty...a lot of stuff is closed due avalanche danger unfortunately but loving it so far

  8. Although I’ve made many March trips to Whiteface this may the first true Spring day. Lookout Mountain was soft and bumped on Wilmington, Hoyt’s and Lookout Below. Lookout and Castlerock are my two favorite pods in the East We headed up to the summit and the slides looked juicy, hopped off the lift to Gold status! said adios to Mrs S and boot packed up and traversed over to 2b. So good and felt I ski’d it well, unexpected check off the bucket list ! Another great day at da Face

  9. Condo is pretty awesome. Think my plan is to hit Silver today and tomorrow or Sunday. Somewhere in Montana Friday...fishing Saturday so may or may not ride depending on what time the trip is done. Lookout pass either tomorrow or Sunday. Somewhere in Washington Monday and probably a short session at 49 degrees north Tuesday before flying back

  10. Today was a helluva day! Thanks everyone for eating. And of course thanks to everyone who brought their own tasty delights. Dan's breakfast entree was the perfect kickoff, and per usual I was fashionably late but having the van with the microwave to eat it hot right off the jump was was clutch. Those stuffed pretzels from Frankenstein were probably the best thing I ate all day. Mike's pepperoni bread delicious too. Many others I didn't get to try . . . See everyone for at least one more weekend!

  11. Day 2 had snow over night and pretty cloudy early. Headed to Bruson and first piste run was super pleasant with 4-5 inches of fresh snow. Turned sticky icky before the lift but first 3/4 were money. Went off the backside and did 2 laps next to the t bar. Decided to go for a tour and check out the trees. Easy skin to untouched trees. Awesome morning before heading across to Verbier. 4 gondolas later I had my skis back on. Did some laps off the super tram with great snow. Kept it easy while trying to save some legs for the guide tomorrow. Met him in town at 4 to go over the plan and now about to go ski it. Cheese Cave for dinner

  12. Wasn’t really sure where to put this. Our rescue team was called out on this avalanche on Saturday. I was first on scene at the firehouse. Once one of my team members arrived we were trying to assess what was the best way to access the victims. We discussed skinning up to them but that would take time. The terrain was sketchy and they were not in a great place. Then it was decided careflight would be called in. They would shuttle us one at a time to a landing zone above where they were. I was pretty nervous, both about the helicopter ride and the terrain. I said I would snowshoe instead of ski (brought both) as I didn’t feel comfortable on a 40+ degree slope. At what felt like the last minute, two other strong team members arrived who were good skiers. I was off the hook. I was happy to just help from the command base. Communications are bad here, with cell and radio signals. I helped coordinate info from the county sheriff to our team members on site and on their way. Mountain Rescue Aspen also sent 3 of their guys to help if needed. 6 of us (West Elk Mountain Rescue), 3 Marble fire personnel, 3 MRA guys in all plus the careflight team. Once a paramedic and 2 team members were shuttled to the landing zone and worked their way down to the victim, it was apparent he was not doing well. Head injury, kept losing consciousness, badly broken arm (arm was wrapped backwards around a tree) and leg injury. Chopper was low on fuel so last minute desist on was made for pilot to land in a sketchy gully and take patient. His friend was uninjured and did a great job holding it together, digging him out and getting him out of the debris field to a safer location. By this time it was dark and friend and my 2 team members had to ski out. They said it was survival skiing, breakable crust through a thick aspen grove and shrubs. Glad I stayed on the ground. We got a debrief from the friend back at the firehouse. He was very emotional at first, understandably so. He gave us a detailed account of how it went down. Luckily the friend was only buried to his chest. He was able to dig him out and somehow guide him down without any of his gear. It was very intense and it reminds you how unforgiving the mountains can be. This volunteer gig so far is very satisfying and I am learning so much valuable outdoor info. https://avalanche.state.co.us/report/98249357-2906-4534-b287-61e125e28a58

  13. Verbier Day 1 Massive doesn't do it justice. Did the gondola up to Attelas for two quick warm up laps and them up to Mount Gele and the 3100' down to Tortin. Stopped for a beer, espresso, and tart before continuing down to Siviez to make the run a total 4100' descent. Worked our way to La Dent and saw a north face with what looked like good snow so did a short tour up. Snow was good and was an empty party of the resort. Played around at Plan du Fou with some chutes and drops before working our way back. Last run took 2 hours and stopped at 2 mountain restaurants and finally a third one that was right across the street when we walked off the snow. Had hot wine, Blanche and beer tataki, and finally another Blanche. Made for a 10 hour day in ski boots. Went to the Shed for burgers and they had a banging old school American ski movie rap classics playlist going and ended up staying for an extra drink. Our server said laughed when he heard we went to Mt. Gele since he knew it was crusty. Snowing now but supposed to clear soon. Heading to Bruson for the trees.

  14. Spent a bluebird day yesterday, skiing with the kids in the morning and grandkids in the afternoon. Not quite frozen cord in the morning up top, mashed potatoes lower down in the afternoon. No bowls, but a lot of ponderosa pines. Well maintained, good logistics, kind of an upscale type of place, a Sierra’s Park City with a hotel lower mid mountain. Shuttle from the parking lots worked well, light lift lines and slopes not crowded up top. Cross country trip went well, except they closed 80 in Wyoming for us when we hit Green River due to extreme blow over risk for campers. So we detoured down 191 past Flaming gorge to Rt 40 and over to SLC. Big storm coming in to Truckee tonight so we are making discretion the better part of valor and heading out this afternoon. Don’t want to have to put the chains on this beast.

  15. Pretty good day at Silver mountain. Ride 9 30 to 1 30, most of the same trails as yesterday but explored some of the glades a bit today. South facing side was nice and pretty sunny, stuff off chairs 3 and 4 was super foggy. Really cool mountain and some pretty steep runs. Also a trail called half pipe thats a natural half pipe as the name suggests. I'd like to come back when more stuff is open but I still had a great time

  16. Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot before 720am and Atomic Jeff and Johnny law were already in the house. They were joined by JFDan, Mute, MBike Mike, Nastar Glenn, Mixilplix, Charles, Airhead, Spyder, Falco, Shopey1080, Schifdawg, Nancy, PARidge, LiftieBob, Indiggio, BenM, Jimmy, Craig, Salty, Harold, Kumar, Randy, Enjorales, Mike from Beth ford crew, Mark, TheDude, Mamaskeeze, PSUFrankenstein and many others. The temperature was in the upper 20s to begin rising through the 30s and 40s under mostly sunny sky’s. We first had some breakfast food compliments of JFDan and PSUFrank then I skied a short session including two runs on Main Street which was decent, a little bit of bite but consistent. Paradise was also ok. They blew snow on all the runouts which just made them slow and sticky. Lazy mile was decent early on and challenge had mini cookies but I heard it softened up. Paraweaver was enjoyable as well. I went back off the snow to take a piss and grab another beer and ended up hanging in the lot for awhile then went back out and hit up the chute which had a few soft turns in the sun. Back to Paraweaver again and to the lot and by now Enjorales was cooking up a storm. Burnt ends, bacon wrapped peppers, steak on salt blocks and shrimp were my favorite along with pina colada slushies. Custard filled donut as well and JFDans egg casserole all elite. The hours in the lot flew by and before I could blink it was already like 330..I peaced out as a moderate to severe hangover started to creep on. All in all was a pretty perfect party day and we still have more skiing next weekend and maybe in April… JADIP

  17. Awesome day. Snow was pretty good, stayed until 5 30 ish...Enjorales kept putting insanely good food out all day...Great beers, hanging out with the best parking lot crew all day was a great end to what is likely my last day on the snow in PA this season

  19. C1er was the only person I saw in the house. 7 busses from East Penn but they went tubing. Snow particularly on the main st side was perfect. Soft up top with hyper grip on a super fast hard layer underneath. Absolutely supersonic and the real treat was with good snow and nobody around you could send the airs to the moon. I did Raceway, mid, lower three times in a row to get floaty on the riser airs. Main was just as good and just as fast, switch a little firmer from the shade but you could send the risers to the ISS. The razors side was a bit harder snow and razors itself was a no go one as it was closed but mostly as it looked like the surface of the moon. Challenge and Coming Soon were more like the main st side and it is so nice to not have to put the brakes on. Shit was top notch and so was Tuesday with Atomic, if you can get out the last couple have been surprisingly dope. The bad news is the hill did take quite a hit, there are spots all over and the upper left side of sidewinder is gone though they could push the humps. With the weather coming up I think the clock is ticking.

  20. Started on the quad. TCS, upper Main, and Switch were in good shape. Not sure what they did with lower Main. Ran a groomer without the back cord maker down? Left side wasn’t too bad. TCS was one of the best all year. Razors was spotty. Wonder if those puddles of ice on the bottom head wall was where the weekend gates were that they salted. Lazy was closed for some major blowing.

  21. Hey All, I’m back from another fun morning at Blue mountain the true mountain. Today might even be closing day. I arrived at the lower lot at 7:23am and it was cloudy with the temperature in the mid 40s. In the house was a smallish crew. Familiar faces like Atomic Jeff, JFDan, Dirtwolf, PARidge, BenM, Enjorales, TP4, Johnny Law, Bethlehem Ford crew and Indiggio. I started on the super summit safari six pack and first skied lazy mile which was pretty nice and smooth..The falls was glacial ice. Paradise wasn’t as smooth as Lazy but not that bad just a lot of solid. Coming soon was nice and skied that twice it was spring conditions. Challenge was pretty solid and a huge bare area on the right side of the second headwall. Razors had good and bad areas. I took one run down Burma road and it’s still holding on just barely..the last stretch had about an inch and a half of base and as Toast says it’s all about the base. I repeated lazy mile and ended with a Paraweaver run. Fun parking lot I had a couple beers and enjorales made breakfast sandos, Pork loin, short rib, flatbreads, creme brûlée and sausages. Now I’m at work trying to do a few things before I do THC experiments on myself. JADIP

  24. Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot around 720am and it was in the lower 40s under cloudy skys with dense fog on the top 3/4 of the mountain. In the house was almost everybody except Matt Edge, Zonked, Nancy and Toast. Second civilian chair and began on a very foggy paradise which had nice groomed hero snow…I was a little slower than the pack but for second lift ride rode with Salty, Mute, Boo and Becky boo and ended up skiing with Salty the rest of the session. Second run Lazy mile which was alright then paradise and lazy again…I then skied switchback which was super nice..was only bare near the bottom. I also skied sidewinder which was pretty bare near the top. It had to happen eventually, I made my return to my nemesis Challenge which put me on the injured reserve list whatever you sportsball fans call it for almost two weeks. Wow was challenge soft..the top was so soft like bottomless slush..middle was a little more put together..I skied that three times to end the session. Fun parking lot and Enjorales did some seriously cooking today..now posted up like a thumbtack in Allentown and would love to do THC experiments on myself but am meeting a friend at 3pm for coffee so will put that off a few hours. 26. This winter has definitely been a weird one as far as storms and temps. Had some good snow Thursday but when I went skiing yesterday by the afternoon all the ungroomed runs turned to cream cheese slop. Attempted to Xc ski McClure pass this morning. Got there by 9 but already all the parking was full with snowmobile trailers. Went back into town and just did a lap around the park. Snow was not good for skiing but the weather is beautiful sunny and warm.

  27. Just got back. Beautiful weather and lots of sun. Snow conditions went from hero to zero really fast however. First run on razors was $$. The next run on side was silky smooth, maybe the best side run all season for me. Shortly after however the sugar harvest was in full effect. Thin spots starting to rear their ugly head too, one on side and another on switch. That said fun day

  28. After the thaw and rain yesterday was expecting everything to be locked in, pleasantly surprised to find pixie dust on corduroy crust morning conditions and views exceeded expectations in a groomer zoomer sort of way Snow stayed grippy and edge able all day as winds and clouds increased enough to shut down the Mt. Ellen lifts and head to Lawsons

  29. Rode at lookout pass from 9 to 1...conditions ranged from soft groomers, firm corduroy, and crusty snow in the glades. There looks to be some good access to backcountry areas there. They have a ton of snow, seems to snow there a lot more than Silver which is like 20 minutes away. Fished a little on the way back and now enroute to central Washington. Hanging out at Post Falls Brewing, great beer. Hitting white pass in Washington tomorrow. Possibly 49 degrees north Tuesday although my flight boards at 1 25, so may skip riding and fish/hit a brewery

  30. Bittersweet leaving today. I feel like this may be it for the season. Sad for that...but happy that it really was another great season. Thanks for spoiling us again with the food @enjoralas. As for the skiing. Good coverage all things considered. Yesterday took it's toll in spots. Like @GrilledSteezeSandwich said it was probably the quietest that I can recall seeing blue on a weekend. I can't imagine they're making much money so a shout out to Blue for opening up for the pass holders this weekend (and maybe next). Definitely grateful for that

In the house was everybody except Zonked, Nastar Glenn, Johnny Law and Matt Edge. I had low expectations with yesterday’s warmth and the overnight freeze but conditions were alright. Lazy mile and Paradise were decent initially as was Dreamweaver…nice groomed snow a little sugar and a few spots of boilerplate. Challenge was mini cookies but apparently it softened up pretty fast..Widowmaker to chute was pretty solid. I enjoyed Burma as it was smooth and no people on it. I also skied the woods next to Barney’s bumps and surprisingly good as long as you stayed in a three foot wide path. Temperatures rose into the 40s but it also became more overcast. I ended up skiing 11 runs then a fun parking lot, I even went into the next row which is progressive. Now time to rest up for tomorrows party. JADIP

  35. Way better than expected today. What's open has way better coverage than I anticipated. Props to blue...not only for the snow pack but for the litter clean up efforts. It's not fully cleaned but it's clear they made the effort. 65 to 70% is gone and it looks way better. But the good news doesn't end there. There are now no littering signs and trash cans at the entrance to each lift. All positive steps and keep up the good work there Blue! Back to the skiing...runs of the day for me were para weaver and the three runs through sleepy hollow to lower main. Sleepy hollow has a sliver in and a sliver out but if you go too low you had to ski through dirt or do you best Van Halen and Jump. Kept things interesting.Overall happy with conditions considering it's March 22nd.

In the house were Atomic Jeff, NMSki, Johnny Law and Mixilplix. First civilian super summit safari six to lazy mile to start which was firm but pretty smooth and just starting to soften around the sharp corner. Paradise was similar conditions a little firmer with lanes of mini cookies and boilerplate. Coming soon was also solid but the wind made it a slow motion run. Widowmaker to the chute also firm although the chute started to corn up slightly after an hour or so. Crowds were lighter than the winds but still some people out. I peaced out at 10:36 and now back to work like a dork, gonna try to sell a tombstone at Noon.. JADIP

  40. Day 3 was guide day and Luis was awesome. Met a guy Matt from Boston currently living in Chicago on day 2 and invited him with the guide. Two warm up laps where the guide was flat out ripping on the groomers was a good start. Passed the evaluation and went up Mont Font. Hit chutes skiers right on the top sections and took it down to Tortin for 4k drop. Next was up Chassoure and traversed the ridge to the right for le petite Mouche. Wild cresting the ridge line not knowing what is instore on the other side. Last run the boys wanted backside Mont Font but I passed on the sketchly entrance right off the top of the gondola. Did the same-ish first run down to Siviez for 5177' drop over 5 miles and met back up with them. Said backside wasn't bad after the entrance, until the bike path back past the dam and hike out. Biggest day yet was with the guide. Didn’t get to eat my curry chicken sandwich since I got yelled at so had tuna avocado toast with the guide and beire after. Day 4, last day. Cloudy for the first time this trip. Worked our way around the mountain looking for sun. First run down Gentianes was one of the morning challenging runs I've ever done with complete flat light and feeling my way down the mountain. After that it wasn't as bad but every 5 minutes the weather changed. Headed to Zurich tonight to catch the flight tomorrow morning.

  43. Hey All, I’m back from another fun morning at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 720am and it was in the mid 40s with a little lingering valley fog below partly sunny sky’s. In the house was everybody by NMSki, VTMark, Phillycore, PSUFrank, Toast, Root, Zonked, Nancy, Barb and Sibhusky. Started out on the quad and skied Challenge first which was pretty bad..super uneven solid ish snow and divots everywhere. Paradise was better and getting thin..down to the base snow so pretty fast. Lazy mile was pleasent as was upper Main Street..lower a little choppy but not as choppy as yesterday AM. Crowds seemed worse than yesterday AM. After about an hour and fifteen minutes we went into the lot for a beer and chips then went back out around 10am and I skied Razors which was getting nice and corny..I didn’t ski the bumps as I didn’t want to re-aggravate my knee but apparently they were good. They looked tight to me. I also skied Paraweaver and Dreamweaver was thick but well covered..I skied a vista to Burma and left side of vista like a four foot base and right side below the pond skim a four inch base. Burma was holding on, I like skiing it when empty. I finished off with another razors and back to the lot around 11am…no more beer and peaced out shortly thereafter with a stop at chic fil A on the way back. Ski most of y’all tomorrow. JADIP

  45. What's absolutely hilarious is that it took Blue until this past weekend to put garbage cans in the lift lines! Really?? Putting trash cans in the lift lines isn't going to help because everyone's drinking ON THE LIFT RIDE UP! Try putting the can's at the top of the lift!! Perhaps a little guilt and trash cans there would help a little, doubtful. Start putting up signs: If you're caught littering, your ticket will be pulled!

  46. Better yesterday both visibility wise and conditions wise. still a fun day. Blue mountain if you’re reading this, the litter conditions under each chair from top to bottom is out of control. The trash base now rivals the snow base at this point. it’s embarrassing and shows a lack of pride or caring; and at this point the only thing I can deduce is that you simply don’t care about your hill looking like a landfill. Perhaps consider taking this upcoming week / spring temperatures to conduct a massive cleanup operation. Recycle the beer cans and use the money you make to invest in do not litter signs. #PickUpPA.

  48. We out. Hella fun spring ski day. Beautiful weather and fun trying someplace new. MC is worth the trip if you've never been. Never got to South unfortunately (mostly terrain park pic below) but perhaps next time. The cabriolet makes no sense to me. Why stand and take off your skis when you can sit and keep your skis on? Its not like a gondola that carries more people and protects you from the elements. Probably my only gripe. Cool place and fun ski day for sure.

  50. If you're' bored and feel like reading it hers a post from a few years back: Some years ago I did the XC trails at Greek Peak and had a fun workout so I picked up a cheapo metal edge XC "BC" setup. It was great fun tooling around the local woods and mtb trails – a great mix of my favorite aspects of both skiing and mountain biking. So much fun I upgraded to some epochs with 3 pins/leathers and started taking them along on trips and expanding my terrain, blowing off friends at Stratton to ski Stratton Pond trail etc. There was a lot of highly entertaining XCD energy on the interwebz back then to add to the stoke. I was getting myself in trouble quickly though on the descents with some ass puckering moments so I started taking the XCD setup to the hill to try to get a handle on the turn. The fishscales suck on PA groomed “snow” though so I threw some 3 pins on an old pair of twin tips and got some used 2 -buckle plastic boots to ease the frustration. I started breaking them out every Sunday for a few runs just to up my XCD game. As my skill progressed and started finding “the turn”, I started staying out longer and longer with them. After my hip replacement I try to limit my bump skiing to a few runs on the softest days. With tele found I could attempt to ski low impact bumps and tele-surfing moguls might even be more fun than alpine?! Between Jake and a few others there's a decent tele tribe here at blue and was typically committing to regular Tele Sundays. I still like the power and speed of alpine and don’t think I’ll ever switch full time. I really like the simplicity, freedom and lightness of my current tele touring setup and don’t have any plans on upgrading and will just leave it as two different activities to do on the mountain. Still rockin’ the 3-pins and two buckle boots although considering getting an NTN setup one of these days.
