I was at a mountain in lake tahoe that did this (Sierra at Tahoe). Season pass holders had a seperate line, and at the front of the line was a gate, u put your little module on the pass up to a sensor, and the gate opens, thus tracking your vertical. What was cool about this program was, based on your vertical they gave you comp dollars to use at the pro shop and stuff. I was talking to a dood who was saying he broke a pole while skiing there, so he went in and redeemed his "vertical points" for new poles . Quite a good incentive to draw in season pass buyers in a competitive area with a bunch of ski resorts.

dood... Alta has 2000 vertical I think, which still has us beat (small in western terms). I don't think we'll ever have them beat on conditions, I'd bet their bad day is better than our good

I generally hate people who whore their home mountain, BUT, I think the free ski/board check at Blue was the best way to handle a bad situation. They knew they had heavy theft rates, and instead of paying security guards to look for people with two snowboards, they put up the check stations. CB seeks out the crowds and the type of people who will do things like this (not true skiers or boarders) and they should be able to keep control of them.
