  1. 2000th reply... lots of cloud cover tonight too. i see no reason to get there for opening if everything will firm up tonight but no new snow will be made.
  2. just because someone has a job doesn't mean they have a crap ton of disposable income or some sort of hookup to be able to afford a day on snow.
  3. so, a better ski than the super 7 in pretty much every aspect except weight. Have I mentioned I don't like the 7 series from Rossi?
  4. What just happened here?
  5. can I borrow them to straightline challenge once it's open?
  6. I hit that chute last year. It looked way less rad when I did it though. Sketchiest thing I've ever gotten myself into? Probably dropping skiers right on flatiron out of bounds at canyons with no avi gear or really any concept of avi conditions at the time. Trees skied great, had some knee deep turns then it opens up a bit. Keep hanging right and you get to some small cliffs. I lined up a little finger off a 5-6 footer. Took a check turn before I was ready to drop it and it broke loose above me so I just pointed it and hoped for the best. Not a big slide by any means but enough slough to be scary when you're OB in somewhat unfamiliar terrain. I try and be a little bit less stupid now. I believe flatiron boasts the most people caught in avalanches per year in the US just because of how ridiculously easily accessible it is. I have video of it somewhere, maybe I'll try and find it.
  7. pretty sure there's probably some dumb LCB law prohibiting that in PA.
  8. Yeah I kinda figured that was the case, but what makes this better for developing that skill that being able to nose butter and then ride in a switch nose press at cruising speed? Same thing minus the crutch, no? Not knocking it, I do all sorts of dumb crap on my skis that's similar to this. I'm just genuinely curious.
  9. This thread touches on a lot of points. Time for a brain dump. Anybody can go fast. Obviously I can ski fast, I'm the best skier on the mountain. I totally get that riding fast is exciting, and it's definitely an adrenaline rush when you can cleanly rip a difficult line fast and feel comfortable and in control while looking like a badass. Case in point, Cody Townsend in AK. I don't really understand the tripod maneuver, it seems like you're using your hands as a crutch. I've seen people do it before, but from a completely novice snowboarder's aesthetic perspective, it looks goofy. If it helps build core skills, then cool, I get it I guess, but it seems like just trying to figure out how to actually butter and press would be more beneficial. Ultimately what it comes down to is, do whatever allows you to have the most fun on snow. Isn't that why we all do this crap? Some people get off on skiing fast and getting in as many runs as possible. Some people take things slower and focus on technique and skill building. Some people think ice is nice, some people prefer soft spring conditions. If you really want to become a better rider though, you've gotta embrace it all to become well rounded.
  10. finding a kfc on my way home from work. Sadly they're not that prevalent in philly. I think Popeyes and churches are in collusion to keep the number of kfc's to a minimum.
  11. why no selfies? I'm getting you a selfie stick for kwanza
  12. only thing that was really crowded at all was home stretch. Lazy wasn't even as bad as it normally is.
  13. Lazy turned to crap by the time you finished your first beer, apparently. Generally scraped off with lots of piles. Paradise, on the other hand, had really nice snow after my first run. First run was a little clumpy but was broken up and soft by 2nd run. Bumps are spaced really well, but a bit scrapy. If they dust them with a bit of new snow tonight, they should be on point tomorrow. I might even be there for opening!
  14. that Taco Bell got shut down for a while due to the amount of drug trafficking going on there
  15. so jealous right now. I need to get an AT setup and travel more to get the goods.
  16. Picked up some hydrating supplies for the weekend
  17. ive got nothing at the moment, still waiting on a pair of skis from on3p, but it'll most likely be a set of guardians. Really depends what you're looking for. If weight is a concern, fritschis are ok, but there's lighter stuff out there. In my opinion them and maxo kinda started the market space that dukes, guardians, and whatever the heck tyrolia makes now fill. It's an alpine binding with touring capabilities, which suits me just fine living in PA. If I lived out west and was committed to it, I'd probably be getting a pivot/dynafit cast setup, but that's not cheap...
  18. Inb4 bear creek cheese fry rant
  19. yup. I used to rollerblade a bunch back in the day. There is no way to really safely bail on skates, so you learn pretty quick how to take a hit that will cause the least amount of injury. I've had my fair share of hard hits skiing and mountain biking, but I've definitely pulled a lot of awkward self preservation maneuvers and kept myself mostly unharmed plenty of times too.
  20. Most important thing to not getting hurt is knowing how to fall
  21. said with complete sarcasm. Someone else mentioned it elsewhere. This board needs more GNAR.
  22. If this site is turning into the tgr of pa, I'm totally fine with it. I'll have to take my shit talking up a notch. Good thing I'm the best skier on the mountain.
  23. and the internet armchair quarterbacks are getting all riled up! http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php/283618-Cody-Townsend-snaked-my-line/ Cody's account of the line is on page 2
  24. he still pops in on tgr from time to time. Super nice dude, and absolutely slayed me in a game of pool a few years ago at a ski industry party. Oh yeah, he can ski...
