  1. Getting nit picky here but rocker doesn't have to reduce effective edge. Rocker in conjunction with taper does though. The Rossi E88/98 for example has its widest point in front of the start of the rocker profile, so when you tip it up on edge, you do still get the full effective edge as if it were cambered. They're just less hooky into a turn and less snappy out of it. In a stiff ski, I like something with mellow rocker and a bit of taper to keep it more consistent in choppy snow. Even at blue, you see a lot of variable, piled up junk. The taper keeps the ski less hooky and able to track straighter through the junk. In case anyone hasn't noticed, I don't really buy skis for carving groomers at blue anymore...
  2. current billy goat and cease & desist in their large sizes are plenty burly too.
  3. i don't recall there ever being on under the doubles. Ditto what toast said. Not stoked on walking down the hill and buying a $15 tube to fix a flat on my DH bike cause somebody couldn't wait for the trash can.
  4. That tight of a turning radius in that wide of a ski terrifies me. Sounds like it'd be hooky as all hell in chop, especially since it is not rockered.

I've heard this club in utah is pretty legit http://www.mormon.org
  6. thats a good way to end up in the slammer. Also, I prefer my roads without potholes, and the firemen to come if my shit's burning down. [emoji602] Back on topic-ish, weather is looking somewhat more promising than previously forecast. Hopefully montage can take advantage so all the Dunder miflin paper pushes can get their pocono shuffle on.
  7. glen hurricane Schwartz is calling for snow next Tuesday!
  8. As of now sunday is looking like the better of the two days.
  9. That looks like some of the shanty towns I saw in Mexico a few years ago
  10. not trying to instigate anything, but he's said he's a snowmaker, and you won't divulge your sources. I'm more inclined to believe the person who says they work for the mountain. Getting defensive and aggressive about it doesn't help your cause much either.
  11. Thanks Santa clauss. Anyone who knows me well knows I've had my fair share of battles with ski area management and various other industry folk over the years, but you learn from that. Snowmaking is way more complicated than saying, "hey it's below 32°, let's make some snow!" Heck, toast and I made a backyard snow gun back in the day and learned about it the hard way by almost blowing up a compressor. Montage's check book wasn't stacked with cash from last season quite like some of the other players who opened early and they've got a lot of factors working against them. While it sucks for pass holders, I totally get why they wouldn't have gambled on a freak mid November cold snap. If their snowmaking capacity isn't up to snuff in the sense that they could have laid down enough to open, it might have been the right call. If they did blow but not open, and they hit this warm streak, they might have lost everything and had to start over, costing lots of money. I'm hoping as much as anyone it gets again soon, and I'd love to get up to montage again this year and check it out.
  12. I'm not seeing anything promising in the 10-day. Looks like we'll be slummin it up top with the Main Street chair for another week at least. Glad they got a lot of snow down in the bumps when they could! There are worse things to ski than nice "spring" bumps this early in the season.
  13. Yeah prophets are inherently not gonna be great in the bumps. There's a reason bump skis are narrow, minimally shaped, and non-metal. Ha got all 3 of those working against ya with the prophets.
  14. you haven't ridden at frost lately, have you?
  15. Burma lift started running right around 10 when everyone peaced for beerz. We went back out and ripped bump and park laps til almost 1 and met up with some friends we hadn't seen in a while. Lines were no more than 5 minutes, bumps were softish, and park crew was keeping things fresh in come around. Can't ask for much more than that in November! Makes me glad I'm a blue local.
  16. i saw that and it is unfortunate. I usually reserve my jf days for when the rain/snow line is a bit farther north and they get a few inches and blue gets rain or junk.
  17. Picked up 4

    ski boot sizing.

while I agree that a helmet is a very important pice of gear, it doesn't really affect your skiing ability. There's not like a beginner helmet or an advanced helmet or anything like that. A ski boot is a much more personal piece of equipment, and it pays to get a pair that fits properly. You can pick up last years helmet for 50% off and sticker it up or spray paint it if you don't like the color.
  19. Didn't they do $25 tickets in the past? I was hoping to pick up a few to supplement the blue pass.
  20. a possibility of 8" of snow should not make a difference in whether they open or not... Natural snow does not add to the base nearly as quickly as man made snow, unfortunately.
  21. I can't say that I hate magnetraction but I don't think the concept translates entirely to skis. On a snowboard, you've got two points of leverage over one edge, whereas skis you've only got one point of leverage per edge. From what I remember, the ripples in the magnetraction boards correspond to approximately where your bindings are on the board, giving you the most leverage at the "serrated" points. On skis, you've really only got one spot where this would carry over from the way things work on a board, but the magnetraction extends much farther. Not that it necessarily skis worse, but I didn't notice it being any better is all.
  22. It's all about the effective edge length of the ski and ease of turn initiation. A rockered ski will roll into a turn easier and feel less hooky, this feeling like it skis like a shorter ski that has camber. Depending on the shape of the sidecut in relation to the rocker/camber profile, the entire edge of the ski may never engage in a carved turn, even if you really too it up on edge. Caveat: this requires carving your turns, or for that matter, turning at all.
  23. Almost 70° in philly already
