I was waiting for a mention of the cast si&i, which seems to be a pretty sweet setup if you don't mind hauling a toe piece in your pack. Dyna toe for the way up and a pivot on the way down, yes please. If you're down for a tag along for tucks, I'm very interested. It's been on my to do list for so long now, it's about time I sack up and do it. I've got a 10° bag and I'm not afraid to strap skis to my pack and hike. Also, I can live for days at a time off nothing but clif bars, shot bloks and beer, so I think i can manage from a food standpoint.

correct. markers, fritschis, and salomon/atomic "AT" bindings all accept a regular alpine boot. if you're looking at getting new boots for next season anyway, there are some boots that have removable soles and will be compatible with both alpine and tech bindings. i've been looking at grabbing a pair of guardians, since they'll work with my alpine boots, actually ski well, and are not markers or fritschis. i don't care about weight really, since the amount of legit touring i'd be doing is pretty minimal, and i'd prefer to stick to an alpine binding with AT capability so i can still use it for resort skiing. i haven't ridden the current fritschi binding, but the previous version of the freeride was very plastic-y and laterally very soft. not a fan, but they are light for what they are. the dukes ski very well, are a bit heavier than a traditional alpine binding, but i don't like the aggressive stack height. hence, why i'd go for the guardians. they ski really well, are marginally lighter than the duke, and most importantly to me, they have a lower stack height. i hate feeling like i'm on stilts when i'm skiing, which is why i use pivot/fks bindings on all my stuff.

depends on your definition of "need". from a coverage standpoint, they're set for the year unless we get a crazy warmup. from a quality standpoint, it'd be nice if they lay down some new snow to freshen things up after the icy mess. even better if they do it before any snow we might get this weekend.

out of everything, that's probably actually the least ridiculous. we're not accustomed to it here, but i don't think that's that out of the ordinary in a lot of 3rd world countries. kinda gross, but not as much of a screw up as laying tile for the shower wrong so that it drains out into the bedroom, or putting the toilet lid on the toilet, then the seat on top of the lid...

You ever try the guardian/tracker? I might have a line on a pair of those.

wanna follow me through the jump line on sidewinder this weekend? Those jumps in Sochi measure out at 85, 90, 95 lip to knuckle. The 4th jump on sidewinder is probably about 45 right now, roughly half the size of the Olympic course. I dunno who they had do that helmet can run through the course, but dude is gonna get murked if he's trying to trick anything going that slow. Re: Shaun white - I'd respect him if he backed out because of an unsafe course. Watching women's snowboard slope right now, and as sad and pathetic as it it, women are still cleanly tricking the big side of the jump line, which leads me to believe the course was not white's reason for backing out. I'm assuming he saw that he really stood no chance for a podium and didn't want to tarnish his winning reputation. What sucks the most is that he backed out at the last minute, keeping an alternate from taking his place. I dunno who that would have been, but if they have a personal vendetta against him right now, I can't blame them.

For anyone who's looking for a sick all mountain boot, this thing rips, and it's an absolutely stupid good deal. They're a top of the line freeride boot that has the lateral stability of a race boot. Somebody snag these!

I'm gonna add to this one. I rode blue yesterday morning and was feeling ambitious when I was done. Snow was still good so I took a nice tour of the fields around my parents house. No AT setup, so it was all hiking for me. Top of the first hike, looking down Small downhill, then a bit of traversing got me here, the top of a decent length downhill with some pitch Half an hour later, I reached the slope I had eyed up from the road. Got about 10-12 turns total, which started boot deep up top from some drifting and ended up about 4" deep by the bottom. No core shots, no rocks, overall some pretty good turns right in my backyard! Really makes me want to get a touring setup, but it's probably pretty rare I'd get to use it.

i still fail to see why anyone has any respect for shaun white aside from his ability to ride his snowboard in a stunt ditch and masterfully exploit his fame to make even more money, while still not really giving a crap about snowboarding as anything more than a job.

my brother's got a pair of dynastar big trouble's with PX12s just sitting in the garage, probably haven't been used at all this season. I can ask him a price if you're interested. They're 92 under foot, 176cm, medium flex all mtn twin.

A lot of what people wrote about the early days of snowboarding mirrors my experience with the rise of freeskiing. I got a job in the rental shop at blue the year I turned 16 and bought a pair of salomon 1080s the second year they were available to the public. Blue built a park on sidewinder right around the same time, and it was the same deal as OG snowboarders. You'd see maybe two or three other guys in the park with twin tips and end up riding with then. Met a lot of cool people back then, some who have completely gotten out of it, but most are still killing it in their own ways, whether it's helping out the local scene here, or moved out west living the ski bum life.
