  1. time for jeff to upgrade! unless it catastrophically fails, the guardian is gonna be a duke-killer, i'm calling it now. shorter mount, easier tour mode engagement, lighter weight, stiffer, and lower stack height? game over. yes, please. also, anyone who's remotely considering ON3P, i have next year's jeffreys, and they're awesome. anybody with a 315mm boot sole is welcome to try em out if you see me up at blue.
  2. FYI I have no formal race training and have never run gates, aside from skiercross, in my life...
  3. if that's what you guys at jf call ice, don't ever come to blue. conditions up at frost today were perfectly skiable with sharp edges. BMTroubleMaker can vouch, he skied blue before coming up to frost today.
  4. probably coming up tuesday night. stoked to check bear out this year!
  5. tom, please don't ever do this. i know you know better. i hate to use boulder as an example... but you don't ever see anything set up like that up there. or at park city, or whistler, or... i think you get the idea.
  6. it's about time, but realistically, how long is it going to take to turn things around out west and make stuff skiable/safe? utah is pretty obviously gonna slide like crazy as soon as they get any decent snow, and tahoe still doesn't even have a base down.
  7. i could be available as a stand-in if given enough notice and a pair of reasonable race skis, but i can't commit to every single night.
  8. it's a pretty complex formula, actually. based on 8th grade trig... cos(# of posts / 24 hours between november and april) ^ cosec(total vert skied / # of total hours skied)
  9. there are ways around that... makes my commute a little less traffic-filled!
  10. you guys don't like blowing into the trees?
  11. i think you might be surprised how much a little bit of good will does for the average consumer. people on this message board, for the most part, are not your average consumer in this market, we're the hardcore, dedicated ones who buy a pass, scrounge together cash to take a 2nd or 3rd trip out west, ski in the rain, etc. just the fact that blue is advertising that they're doing this for other areas' passholders will attract non-passholders who may not have considered blue before. it gets the word out that they're open with more terrain than most right now, and the (relatively speaking, we're still in PA) conditions are pretty good. i talked to many customers in the shop last night that had no idea anywhere in PA was even open at this point, and about half of them are now planning on taking a trip up to blue this thursday or friday to check it out. and that was from one person talking about it.
  12. $6 for a 12oz cup. not the cheapest i've ever seen, but certainly not the worst either. maybe i'm just used to philly prices, but $6 for a pretty tasty decently strong beer isn't too horrible to me.
  13. Your stomach wanted beer and you failed to deliver. That's what you get.
  14. I slep in til 9 and got up there around 1030 or so. Probably the worst conditions I've ever skied at blue, with the exception of a few features in the park. They blew sand out of the snow guns last night. It was like I was skiing on the beach. What happened to that new cat ready to eat all the cookies?
  15. What just happened?
  16. Might be interested, I gotta check to see if my new skis fit in my old bag
  17. kildare's "nachos" are made with potato chips as well. it's a weird irish thing, i guess.
  18. because people invested a good chunk of cash into a season pass at bear. when you've dropped $500 on a pass somewhere, it hurts that much more to pay another $40+ to ride 4 trails elsewhere.
  19. it poured 99% of the time when we were in washington and i still think we got more snow out there than PA got last winter.
  20. Everything was super fun tonight. Rails were a bit sticky, but the snow was soft, it was warm, and there were side booters everywhere.
  21. i think i'm heading up tonight. what's the current status up there? anyone know? noaa says rain currently...
  22. there isn't a swanky base village at baker. or anything else around it aside from a few cabins, a grocery store, a brewery, a ski shop, and a post office, and those are all at least 15-20 minutes down the road. i'm actually disappointed to see powder on this list, it's just gonna blow the place up that much more.
  23. tom, i'm sure you're swamped getting things ready for tomorrow, but if you could drop some info as far as what's going to be set up, i'd be very pleased. KT and i may swing up tomorrow night to check it out.
  24. glad you set that straight. it's not nearly as straight forward as, "ok, it's below 32°, let's make snow now". i hope you guys can open up soon. andy set a high bar for opening day parks, i'm hopin for big things tom!
  25. Looks like someone already ripped apart your flawed logic, but snowmaking in pa above 28 is a rarity. Humidity is a factor until at least 20 or so. Also, I'm not super familiar with the finer points of bears snowmaking system, but they might have several pumps/compressors so blowing one side of the mtn may have no effect on blowing elsewhere.
