  1. coupons. couldn't tell you the last time i paid full price to ski. regardless of where you're skiing, there's always a way to save a little bit of cash. hooray for not driving 6 hours! i'm ready for some park laps.
  2. i paid 29 at killington last weekend for considerably more terrain. blue's prices are steep, in my opinion, but they've got arguably better terrain than any other local ski area, so they'll get people to pay it. i'm just hoping they can get some more terrain open by christmas week, otherwise the place is gonna be a zoo.
  3. weird coincidence that the snow on paradise, razors, and nightmare/dreamweaver tend to be much better than elsewhere? pretty amazing what automated snow guns will do, huh?
  4. the park is a lot safer now than it had been in the past. the new employees that have been brought in on that side of things definitely know what's up, and everyone who rides park there has benefited from it.
  5. he has a heavy flow this month. pizza consisted of pesto, buffalo, bbq, and some other fart-brewing creation that kevin at most of. kevin and john tied in the game of fart, and everyone else lost because of it. justin came out of the closet. walking into our condo was like getting hit with a wall of pink eye.
  6. totally forgot about that... sounds like a great way to use a free flight
  7. sweet. lets push water into the compressor line. that compressor will not hold up to the pressure of a power washer and you know it.
  8. we should probably bring that snowgun back out, just because. and based on what we learned, yes, they absolutely could have blown snow, for several nights. but like i said earlier, it probably wasn't financially worth it for how much they'd be losing this week. i don't blame them, i'm just bummed the only skiing i got to do this past weekend was on carpet instead of snow.
  9. i never mentioned anything about cost, i just corrected the false part of your statement. their pipe would have been cheaper to maintain if it was in a spot that got even sun throughout the day instead of one wall getting baked all morning and the other getting baked in the afternoon.
  10. but they absolutely could have been making snow, unless there was some weird weather pattern that actually caused it to be colder at blue than boulder, which i really, really doubt. whether it would have been a smart business decision to blow or not, that's an entirely different story, but i'm pretty confident they could have made snow if they wanted to.
  11. how'd skiing powder work out for you the first time? or dropping a cliff? just because we don't have the means to do so here, doesn't mean people around here wouldn't know how to ride a 22 foot pipe.
  12. I don't snowboard, so take this for whatever it's worth, but it seems like the place rides a lot better on skis than a snowboard. We were finding soon good stuff last winter but it took some traversing to get to.
  13. Same bindings. Look sells pivots. They're chrome. Rossi sells fks. They're orange.
  14. they did. the current ones are the exact same binding they've been producing for years, just new colors. what are you on these days?
  15. I smell a salomon BBR in your future!
  16. yup same binding. and yes, i did buy a jig. i bought nestors when they closed. screw freehand mounting with a paper template. i've done it, and it blows.
  17. Ya I can't warrant getting the 18s honestly.
  18. talk to greg, or bob (bobert540) if he's still there. they're both guys who worked with me at nestors and know their stuff. greg will be stoked to get to play with a pair of FKSs.
  19. ok, time to clear up confusion... FKS/pivots do have a forward pressure adjustment, it doesn't have nearly as much leeway as other bindings though. i got new boots that are 6mm longer and i should be OK without redrilling. they're just a major pain to set, because you have to pivot the heel to 'set' them whenever you make a forward pressure adjustment. buckmans does all backshop work themselves, just not in any of the shops (there are a few exceptions). shop work is sent out to a central location with a full time staff that just does tech work. they charge $75 if you didn't purchase any of the gear from buckmans, which is pretty much standard across the industry. support your local shops and you reap the benefits of not being gouged on shop work and other perks that come with being a loyal customer. FYI nestors charged the same price if you didn't purchase any of the gear there. for the amount of time it takes to mount up a freeride/park ski, where you're measuring out your mounting point and then dealing with finicky bindings and setting them up properly, $75 seems reasonable to me. provided my skis come in this week, i'll be mounting up next year's ON3P Jeffrey's (110mm waist, a bit more tip taper, mellower rocker profile than this year's) with pivot 14s for my new Lange RX130 pros. holy gear stoke!
  20. except it can go from bone dry for weeks to 5 feet overnight in tahoe, and that's not abnormal.
  21. He's also missing sunny side up...
  22. right, right. i'm very well aware that in most cases, it's the ad networks that make the money, not the actual website or app serving up the ads. Online ads are certainly not in the same price level as traditional print ads are yet, unfortunately, even though they can be even more specifically targeted. blue's email pulled right from their contact page is information@skibluemt.com. hit them up, they're making a lot of changes up there, and i know they've responded to me and many others on this board when we emailed them in the past. good luck!
  23. i think it's pretty unfair of him to comment on somewhere he hasn't been. if you know where to look, just like any other ski area more or less, there's really fun terrain to be found. the stuff off 9990 is on par with stuff i've skied at snowbird, powder, snowbasin, or whistler as far as fun factor goes. maybe not as technically difficult as some of the lines at bird, but you can't deny waist deep turns regardless of where you're getting them. yes, i've hiked off 9990. do i recommend it from a safety standpoint? no. it's technically out of bounds, and you shouldn't be out there without the proper gear and training. it's slid big before, and from what i've been told, more people have been seriously injured or killed on that face than any other in utah just because of how accessible it is to a lot of people who probably shouldn't be there. it was definitely risky for us to hike that, but the few times i've hiked it, the snowpack was relatively stable and avy danger was low. it still wasn't smart, but the snow was really good and the terrain is fun if you like a wide open bowl the dumps you into some tight trees, followed by a band of cliffs anywhere from 5 to 25 feet, then more open bowl, then more trees right back down to the bottom of the lift. easy half hour sidecountry laps. i think we hiked it like 6 times in one day the one time i was out there.
  24. that seems new, but DO THAT! burgers and beer outside at the base of the tombstone lift on a bluebird pow day is awesome! and basically you're gonna want to spend most of your time riding tombstone and 99 anyway. that's where some of my favorite tree skiing is, and if you're prepared for it and knowledgeable, there's really fun sidecountry out the access gate of 9990.
  25. have you looked into changing your pricing/revenue structure to something ad-based? just wondering. maybe i'm cheap, because i'm coming at this from the perspective of a developer who uses 'free' open source software daily, but i don't think i have a single paid-for app on my iphone. i'm not at all opposed to following links to in-app ads if it's something that's relevant to me, and obviously you're targeting a very niche market, so it'd be pretty easy to place relevant ads for backcountry.com, porters tahoe, evo, etc in that app if they'd be willing to get on board. i'm sure you've probably looked into all this already, but just throwing it out there. also, there are a lot of local ski area reps on here, and now that the season is quickly approaching, i'm sure they'll be checking in, and hopefully seeing this to reach out to you. maybe you could work on some type of foursquare sort of deal, where the 'mayor' or whatever the equivalent is in your app, gets like 20% off in the skier store that day or something like that? could be more of an incentive for people to use your app and would be good promotion material for the ski area too.
