  1. see you in the bottom lot at beer:30?
  2. out of those three, ditch the rory's. they're the most similar to the seths, althought slightly wider. word of warning though, the seths are soft, probably way soften than what you're used to. they're awesome on groomers and 6"+ of fresh snow, but for anything choppy or skied up, you're gonna want to be on a stiffer ski. i definitely found the speed limit on mine out in utah last year on some sun-baked days old pow and it wasn't pretty.
  3. see, the beer doesn't run out.
  4. didn't know that the quality of the shoes wasn't up to par, i've never owned any 6.0 shoes, just lots of regular nike stuff. interesting situation, and kind of surprising they're potentially pulling out of skiing seeing as how there's going to be a lot more media focus on it with the next winter olympics.
  5. yeah i still haven't seen anything of this. they've added to their team, upped their marketing, are now sponsoring several big time events (dew tour, us open of surfing) under the 6.0 brand. why would you build momentum behind a brand that over the past few seasons has definitely gained a big following only to kill it/merge it into your main entity? in my opinion, having 6.0 as a separate 'brand' from regular nike is what helped them get into the action sports industry in general. nike tried to break into it with the ACG stuff a few years back, mostly on the outerwear/hiking boot side of things and really didn't make much of a dent at all. as far as i can tell, they got everything right with 6.0, so i don't understand why they'd be trying to kill it, and i haven't seen anything official that suggests they are.
  6. good movie, good food and beer, and good swag. you guys missed out. thanks trev, subaru, and dock street for putting this together!
  7. yeah i guess i worded that poorly. you said basically what i meant. he's out there all winter long in some of the sketchiest conditions dealing with terrain people teaching some of these courses have probably never encountered. not having that piece of paper doesn't mean crap when you've got that kind of experience. i just don't understand why he wouldn't have avy gear with him. i've been to places inbounds where i felt vulnerable not having it. heck, in washington with -dan and toast last winter, we set off three slides in bounds within 5 minutes of our first lift ride and our friend was buried mid thigh. i think we took one or two more runs and called it a day. not at all worth risking it when conditions are that slide-prone.
  8. this is what blows my mind. no formal training? the guy's out in the BC all winter long, year after year, and they're saying he's got no formal training? i find that really hard to believe. did he have any sort of backcountry certification? i dunno, but all the time spent in the BC with his peers, film crews, etc who i'm sure take the utmost precautions in those situations, has got to count for something, even if he doesn't have a piece of paper to say he knows what's up. it blows my mind that someone with his amont of experience in the BC would ride sketchy preseason snowpack without any sort of avy gear. something seems a bit weird about that.
  9. yeah it's getting dark up in plymouth meeting right now. i'm a few blocks north of south street, pretty close to wholefoods.
  10. either commit to biking or the trolley. you can't bike there and take the trolley back. they're dicks and don't let you bring a bike on the trolley, and they don't have racks on the front like buses. i almost got stuck out there with a flat tire and no spare over the summer. hit me up if you're biking, i may do the same, and i'm in center city now, probably pretty close to you. it's a pretty easy ride.
  11. i've skied gad valley. it's not beginner terrain by any means, but it's certainly not the sketchiest thing i've ever skied. that whole area is dangerous if you aren't familiar with it or hit it in the wrong conditions. we got cliffed out at bird two years ago and luckily realized it before things went really wrong, really quickly. i know someone who did that once...
  12. i'm hoping the snowpack sorts itself out by january. i don't know enough to know what's truly safe or not, and i really don't wanna get myself involved in any of that mess without the proper gear.
  13. disagree with his choice of religion and how he chose to practice it all you want, but i highly doubt he's leaving it entirely up to god when he was tossing a 200+ footer. i read an article about that cliff when he did it and if i remember correctly, he waited several years for conditions to be right to hit that. it wasn't some spur of the moment deal. he calculated every single aspect of it, as anyone should do when they're approaching new and unfamiliar terrain. slides happen, and it's unfortunate that this one took his life, but it's a calculated risk every one of us takes to step into our skis or snowboard.
  14. utah avalanche service has been doing avy work in LCC for the past week or so, if not more, due to the snowpack right now. now sure if anyone on here has been following it like nerdy me, but it was basically set up perfectly to slide. they got dumped on back in october with two pretty good storms close to each other, so that layer bonded reasonably well, but they got into a freeze/thaw cycle, and then just got dumped on again. the newest snow didn't really bond at all to what was there previously, and the previous layer was weak to begin with. from what i read, slides were getting triggered all over the place in LCC this weekend, and a lot of people got hurt, lost gear, etc.
  15. rain in vancouver typically means snow in the mountains... vancouver in may is absolutely gorgeous though. rain in the winter will pay off when it's 60 and sunny every day and you're on your bike.
  16. haven't skied deer valley, so i can't comment, but my parents told me that when they went there, had we gone with them, we would have had fresh tracks all day because people tend to stick to the groomers there, and there's actually some decent terrain up near the peak. park city's always been fun whenever i've been there, but it does get tracked quick. for the apres scene though, no where else in utah is gonna beat park city in that respect, except maybe the salomon center.
  17. not my fault i'm the best skier on the mountain
  18. thanks. skis break, i get that. they shouldn't break when you're carving on a groomer, and if they do, there should be some sort of recourse taken. offering one new ski for $200 does not cut it.
  19. yeah they tend to put fan guns in the more wide open/high traffic areas at the tops and bottoms of lifts where everything meets.
  20. she doesn't, and she's still arguably better than everyone else on the team.
  21. it's pretty normal for them to be blowing the wide open area above sidewinder/challenge/razors pretty much every weekend.
  22. highly doubt that's going to happen. and on the odd chance it does, i don't think getting them warrantied will be an issue whatsoever.
  23. typo. i meant 'robbed by', not robbed be'. torin did not deserve that win. his run was good, but not x games gold medal good.
  24. http://t.co/KNNUe38H coming my way very shortly...
