  1. likewise, although if executed well, i think it could have some merit. the real issue is, does it really make things easier or save you that much time? even in a ski shop where they're waxing tons of skis a day, it's not that big a deal to just wait til the end of the day and vacuum all the mess up at once.
  2. they could just integrate their little news update thing with facebook and twitter and cover all their bases at once. post once, publish everywhere. not that hard.
  3. thank you for being one of the few non-jaded bear locals. if nothing else, it'll give tom more time to put together a fun setup for opening and build stuff right instead of rushing to get it done in time for an early opening.
  4. i'm well aware that bear is one of the fastest growing resorts in the eastern part of the state, but how much of that growth is from winter business? i don't know the exact financials or anything, but i'm pretty sure most of their growth lately has been through the hotel being booked for weddings and conferences. it's a good business model because it gives them income year round, allowing them to put more into the ski area during the winter, but i don't know if they're really be that busy if they opened midweek aside from pass holders. boulder probably made a little bit of money by opening early, but that's because there literally was no one else open. boulder's already open at this point. nobody's going to be driving south to go to bear over boulder unless they've got a pass to bear. the way bear will steal people from boulder is if they're coming from the philly area or south, and if they want to ride during the day, since boulder doesn't open til 3 on weekdays. how many daytime daily tickets are they really going to sell?
  5. when did i mention anything about blue? i think i rode bear at least once a week last year, and i plan on doing the same this year, so i'm just as stoked as you guys for them to open. that said, opening before friday is realistically not going to make them money because the majority of their traffic will be pass holders until this weekend.
  6. do you realize how quickly a 6" base would get killed in a park? on any given midwinter night, there are bomb holes after rails at bear that are over two feet deep.
  7. it's about time you realized how awesome Look bindings are. I'm 100% sold on pivots for my park skis and the PX race heel for my freeride stuff.
  8. this times 8590436785. i'm used to skiing the top end lange boot because previously, a plug-type boot was about all that would fit my skinny foot. i'm in full tilt konflicts this year and after three days on them, i'm stoked. they claim to be an 8 flex on full tilt's scale, which runs from 2 to 10. lange's adult scale runs from i believe 40 up to 150. the numbers don't mean crap from one manufacturer to the next, it just kinda gives you an idea of where the boot falls within that company's range. i don't find my old banshee pros, which were listed at a 135 flex, to be much stiffer than my konflicts, but the konflicts have a much more progressive flex, which i'm diggin so far.
  9. nobody checks their facebook? they're opening with love park (minus features) today too. it wouldnt surprise me if they can get boulder trail open for tomorrow as well.
  10. that was the most confusing thing i've tried to wrap my head around all day. and i've been trying to rig up an xml feed to pull google analytics data through yahoo pipes for a customized stat counter. be proud of yourself? i think?
  11. friends from pittsburgh are reporting flurries on facebook

    Snowboards.

K2 fastplant. It's soft enough for riding park, but has plenty of snap and is pretty torsionally stable which will help you for freeriding
  13. So who else thinks the canyons marketing campaign is absolute trash? I don't 'mountain', it's not a verb. I ski.
  14. Not going to mt snow now?
  15. Rose picked up some new pants today, and is possibly getting new boots tomorrow after about 3 hours in the shop tonight. I just rode my new skis and boots today and my feet hate me at the moment.
  16. Small and family owned would be the summit inn. Not the swankiest place, buttheir prices are reasonable, they have a heated outdoor pool, it's close to the mountain, their breakfast is bangin, and they have saint bernards!
  17. ian provo's stuff is also shot with a 5dmkII. big difference between that and a gopro

i have a pair of 179 silencers you can have if you need em. they don't have brakes, but they're at least more or less mountain-worthy. also have miller's old lange freeride 120s in a 28.5, i don't remember what size boot you're in.

as weird as it sounds, i totally understand where you're coming from. i'm not sure if its seasonal affective disorder, but i definitely get into a weird mood in the fall when ski season starts happening elsewhere but we're still stuck waiting for snow.
  20. wait... really? in what other states is this acceptable? i'm near positive PA is not one of them.
  21. the job survey thing in high school told me i was supposed to be a park ranger or lumberjack or something ridiculous. i wanted to make video games. now i do web development, which i generally enjoy. i'm not making as much as some other people on this site, but i'm also making a lot more than some others, and i generally lead a pretty comfortable life. this weather seems pretty much perfect for a drive up to killy for some 'spring' skiing and car camping without having to worry about freezing overnight. not sure if it's worth it enough to call off work though.
  22. i hate dave matthews with a fiery passion, but i like cheap lift tickets!
  23. awesome. has no one seen their marketing this year? they're pushing rocker hard, and this fits in perfectly. that and they've already worked with iron maiden previously for the maid'n AK. they did the in-season release thing with the fujatives the first few years too, so it's really nothing new for them. edit: dubstep as a trend in skiing needs to die, yesterday. as far as the mainstream is concerned, there is no 'major' dubstep artist. i couldn't tell you what glitch mob or rusko's 'brand' looks like, but to a good majority of people who walk into a shop, they're immediately going to recognize iron maiden, whether they like their music or not.
