if i had to pick a day, it would be wednesday. it's not supposed to get as cold wednesday night as it is tonight or tomorrow, so the freeze should happen a bit later. i might be heading to bear wednesday night if my knee feels alright.

depends what you like to do. you don't really like rails, right? rails on sidewinder have, for the most part, been pretty well maintained. i was told central got the axe as of today, so i don't know what's in there right now. lower park jumps are tiny, and the two on come around are no bigger. 2nd jump in the jumpline on sidewinder is decently shaped, but small. my best guess would be the biggest jump right now is 30 feet, maybe, but that might be a bit of a stretch. that said, yesterday was one of the most fun days i've had up there this year, because the soft snow doesnt hurt nearly as bad when you land on your head/side/hip/etc like i was doing trying hand drags and other stupid crap. the knuckle of the 3rd jump is awesome for hand drags, by the way, but it's not so great for actually hitting as a jump.

a few too many adult beverages mike?
-
yeah you probably should have been less of a little girl and gone up to blue today. one of the more fun days of the season. have fun spending bank in aspen though.
-
how late are you staying tomorrow?
-
what do you suggest they put there? it's really not that long of a trail at all, and the setup that's there right now is really fun if you're good enough to hit it. it's supposed to be advanced/expert level features, which it is. i'm not personally a fan of staircases because i think they're expensive and don't really add anything to the feature, but the rails themselves are all set up well. the down box after the staircase is pretty much the best thing to learn how to 2 onto an urban setup.

he's got a point; they haven't blown snow in a while, and the natural stuff definitely melts quicker. i remember a few years ago when they made snow the night before closing day, so we'll see, but it really seems like there's enough skier traffic right now for them to be profitable at least through the very end of march.

speaking of, how's your hip feeling? nice and loose?
-
oh hi chads gap.
-
not that my opinion matters more than anyone else's, but my god do i hate this trend. last time i was up at boulder about one out of every three features in freedom was like that, and on skis, it's really not very fun at all.

i think he had surgery and was in one of those halo things for a bit, his dad seemed pretty positive about how everything was going last i talked to him. not really sure of the specifics though.
-
trying to dive into the ocean off a dune. he's not nipples anymore, he's brokeneck. and yeah, his doctors told him no skiing this season.
-
hooray. park was pretty nice today, the big air jump was also fun. maybe i should learn how to ski better and throw crowd pleasing tricks. i thought the snow was pretty good in general, a little slow, but not bad.
-
i'll be in the park when i'm not over at big air.
-
stepdown or table/stepover style? i won't get up there tonight to check out the progress unfortunately.

i'm not saying blue would provide more ski time because its a little closer. i was saying that cause it seems like there's more of a scene there/people to ride with, which in my opinion makes things a lot more fun. i can go hike a rail by myself for a while, but if i'm taking runs, its way more fun to ride with a group, and there's always someone from this site at blue to ride with.

i don't follow...? and yeah, any amount of trail work will require changes to the bike trails for the most part. ultimately, is sidewinder really the best trail for the park, or is there a better option in moving it elsewhere, turning sidewinder back into a regular trail, and not cutting a ton more trees? the answer's there... it just depends on whether they wanna pull the trigger, cause a lot of people would not be happy about it.
-
should have gotten the pass to blue instead...
-
there's mtn bike trails in there that would get destroyed if they plowed that. i think cutting from the dropin down to the c might work, but that would take a lot of grading. not sure that would really follow the fall line either.

nah, i guess i misspoke. i havent physically touched next years, but i've seen the printouts for purchasing, which list all the goofy-named technology that each ski possesses.

i've seen next year's stuff, and i'm near positive it's the whole line. their pipe ski for next year is the only one that might not have rocker. i know it's camber underfoot, but it may or may not have jib rocker tip and tail. i've skied a bunch of other stuff, from SL and GS race skis, to fully rockered hellbents, so i'm well aware of the tradeoff i'm making by not skiing a narrower ski. basically, i won't buy an all mountain ski that doesnt have a twin tip, because at some point during any given run, i'm probably riding switch, and the wider it is, the less likely i am to ride park with it, so the edges on my wide skis tend to stay much nicer than my narrower skis do, hence why my 105mm waisted obsethed is my carving ski haha
-
i'm well aware that blue was not the target market for what we ski on. that said, rockered skis force you to not ski backseat, they don't make it easier to get out of the backseat. i don't quite understand why k2's entire line is going rockered tip next year. it makes sense on the beginner stuff to keep from catching edges and the freeride oriented stuff for softer snow/crud, but on the crossfire or it's equivalent, i don't see the benefit.

most of that sounds feasible, but i'd like to see the rails stay in central. it makes for a nice top to bottom park run. if the rail garden gets swapped with the airbag, it'd be a huge pain to get from sidewinder over to lower paradise to hit those last few rails all in one run. also, i wouldnt count on a superpipe happening. they've been talking about that for at least 5 years now, maybe longer, and it just doesnt make sense. halfpipes require insane amounts of snowmaking. the old mtn manager at bear told me when they still had a pipe, it took them as much snowmaking hours/gallons of water/etc to open the pipe as it did for them to open the rest of the mountain, and bear's pipe was small and crappy. there's a reason mtn creek got rid of their superpipe once they lost the grand prix; it's really had to justify it monetarily unless you're hosting huge competitions that are going to bring in competitors from far away and you monopolize the accommodations so you're making money off that too.

i'm sure you know this, but the best AWD system in the world gets you nowhere if you have crappy tires. that said, there's been many occasions i've passed SUVs stuck in ditches just because they're incompetent drives, and front or rear wheel drive cars can be just as capable. the minivan we rented in utah with chains on the front was plenty capable of driving through several inches of snow, and jeff's rwd car with good snow tires probably handles snow better than my AWD car with all seasons. chippy, if you're rocking a nissan sentra with all season tires, or something of the sort, i'd be a little wary...

my carving skis are 105mm in the waist. i've been skiing for 22 years. there's no reason not to ski something wide. unless you're on a pair of slalom skis, i'll stay right in your tracks on 105mm waisted rockered skis.
