  1. this. i will be up at some point tomorrow. depends on how much snow philly gets.
  2. paying shipping, generally a huge hassle for warranty issues, longer process if what you purchase ends up not being what you really wanted/thought it was. in my opinion, there's far less risk buying a board online than there is boots and bindings. absolutely go to a shop to get fitted for a pair of boots, and then bindings to go with the boots.
  3. if you're coming from nyc, have you checked out the burton store in manhattan? i'm sure their prices are going to be a little high, but it'd be easy for you to just take the subway there and see what they've got and just get some general knowledge about what you're looking for, plus it's in a fun area of the city.
  4. sounds like dan- and/or ashy!
  5. hey, not sure exactly where you're coming from, but if you can drive up to whitehall, check out nestors on 145/macarthur road. talk to dan or rob, they'll get you all set up.
  6. seems like whenever i'm at bear all the skiers there complain that the thing is sticky, but i think it's probably the best rail bear's got. i learned lots of stuff on that rail back in the day.
  7. when you all refer to the palmer rail... is this the flatstock double barrel with rounded ends that always used to just be called the red rail? because it used to be the only red rail when everything was all sorts of different colors?
  8. forecast is for high 30s and mostly sunny on sunday. i think the fleece will be a safe bet.
  9. the first is worthless because it's so small, not because it's a bad jump. it's built alright, but it's not the size jump one would expect in an 'expert' park. even the 2nd is small now. the 2nd should be about the size of the 3rd, but slightly higher up the hill, while the 3rd should be at least as big as it was earlier this season, if not bigger, and also slightly higher up the hill so you don't have to worry about smacking into the wallride/gapers coming around the landing if you ride out switch. the potential is definitely there, some stuff just needs to be rethought. and ttc6, yes, some of us can spin all 3 jumps in the jumpline. that doesn't mean we're always going to, because as ashy said, the first isnt really worth it.
  10. what does toast being a moderator have anything to do with your supposed call with barb? i don't know you, so i have no way of telling if you're usually an upstanding dude or just spouting off every rumor you hear, but from talking to park crew, there's never been any mention of them not existing next year. everything i've heard has been quite the opposite, actually.
  11. and spending absurd amounts of money on huge features no one hits cause they're not set up right. at least the swingset, bus, down flat down s, sliding board, etc, etc, are all gone. can we add the picnic table to that list?
  12. this might be just me, but i hate it when rails are cut into the lip like that. it's like you're wasting a foot or two of rail that you can't slide. maybe this is me being oldschool, picky, whatever, but i like flat rails where the lip is in front of the rail with a little bit of pop and a gap on, and down rails where the lip ends where the rail starts, and the lip is pretty mellow, urban style. boulder's been pretty good about that in the past, til this dumb trend of setting up things low to the ground with no lips started happening. i totally agree with making everything nice and squared off though. every lip should be like that. it looks nice and makes everything look much more professional and 'finished' and it's easier to just when you actually get your pop off the lip.
  13. bingo! there are four down flat downs right now, all urban. there are five down rails, all urban. the flat down is not in right now, and the only flat rail is in come around, which is out of the way and a pain to get to if you're riding the quad/6pack. change up the top of sidewinder. put the flat down rail back in. get rid of the dumb shit like the picnic table box and the cbow thing; no one except gapers hits them. that rail line up top was spot on when they had 3 sets of 3 features. dumb crap on the left wasting space, but the middle and right line both had fun stuff. one line consisted pretty much of boxes, and the other had rails which mostly mirrored the box setup, e.g. flat down box or flat down rail, down box or down rail, etc. this made it very easy to progress from one to the next, and i know i learned a ton of stuff that way. learn 450 onto the flat down, stick it, and you're 90% there for landing it on the flat down rail; it just makes sense. also, why are the jumps so tiny now? you almost needed to take speed into them a few weeks ago. now you have to try not to flatbottom and break your ankles. please make them worthy of being in the expert park again. thanks.
  14. i hope he went down to the village and enjoyed a beer or five. that slalom course looked tough.

    Boot advice

what exactly is it that feels weird sometimes? you're saying that when you get them 'right' you have no complaints, so my best guess is that sometimes when you put them on, you don't get your foot all the way back into the boot with your heel totally locked in place. if you're buckling everything up and your foot isnt quite where it's supposed to be, stuff could feel weird. if the nordicas have worked for you pretty well for the most part, i probably wouldnt go with the tecnica. to me, they feel like they've got a slightly looser heel pocket. i would describe it as your boot tending to fit a wedge/triangular shaped foot well, whereas the tecnica lends itself a little more to a blockier, wider in the heel kinda foot. as far as buying online, that's really your call, but regardless of what you end up doing, definitely see a boot fitter to get everything totally dialed once you have your boot picked out. expect to pay for materials and bench time if you buy the boots online and bring them into a shop, whereas if you buy them from the shop, you'll likely get hooked up with little or no cost for the fitting and any pads (footbeds and grinding/stretching aside) that you might need to really optimize the fit of the boot for your foot.
  16. just noticed you're from bear. i quit.
  17. and this is exactly why i'm fine with skiing halfpipe not being an olympic sport. having a straight air in your run is a cop out. snowboarders in the x games were using them as a set up air. set up airs for skiers in the x games were zero spins, flat 3s, and alley oop 7s. explain to me how a straight air shows more skill and mastery of the sport than an alley oop flat 3?
  18. i'd be willing to bet money that my mom was at wegmans at some point today ha
  19. how was louie vito not 2nd? what are their judging criteria for pipe in the olympics? i know they have to straight air which is lame, but what made lago's run better?
  20. a little over an inch on the ground so far in philly. time to drink.
  21. she's polyandrous?
  22. and thank god for that. and bring fudge and beer tomorrow. its supposed to be sunny and 32. sounds like jumping weather to me.
  23. http://www.vimeo.com/9422672 there's some video from the art museum excursion. i didnt take any in wiss the other night cause it was just too dark, we were skiing by bike headlight.
  24. MOS DEF / De La Soul / Jay Electronica / Pete Rock / Hezekiah / Slick Rick at troc on thursday. tickets are $40 though, kinda expensive for a troc show in my opinion.
