  1. if whatever moving in sunday night/monday amounts to anything, we'll probably hit up the art museum again; either that or the boathouse row cliffs. snow on those was kinda manky so i'd love to hit them again with some snow that you can actually turn in and not get stuck.
  2. nowhere near as ambitious, but i did some skiing within philly city limits last night. first stop was to try and ski near daisy bowl in the wiss, but we couldn't find anywhere safe (from oncoming traffic and snowplows) to park, so we drove down town and parked at boathouse row and hit the cliffs across the street from the boathouses on kelly drive. found a little double stager that i hit a few times and was pretty fun, but the snow was super sticky. we then drove back towards the apartment and parked in the development above the monster (bike trail in wiss) and skied from the development towards bells mill rd. it was nowhere near 1000 vert, probably closer to 200 or so, but you could make 5 or 6 turns, and it was about knee deep, and nice and soft and dry, but no bottoming out. all in all, pretty fun, and i might do it again after work tonight. also, tuesday night dan and i hit up the art museum. i took a little bit of video, so i will have to post that up. lots of fun jibby stuff there.
  3. have fun with that POS. i think i passed about 3 of those stuck in ditches on my way down to philly last night.
  4. actually my foot sounds similar, it's just not wide. i have that awkward bone that sticks out about halfway back my foot. the falcons might take care of that to some extent, but they're not going to help you in the instep. that aside, that area is one of the easiest spots to punch out a boot anyway, so regardless of what you end up in, it'll be easy to address, i've had to do it in my last 3 pairs of boots now. getting footbeds is the first step on the path to proper fitting boots, for sure.
  5. out of everything you listed, the technica is probably your best shot. i haven't tried that boot specifically on, but i've tried on the agent 130 which is based off the same shell, and the instep seemed somewhat accommodating. if you're having trouble in the beasts, it's going to take a lot of work to get you comfy in any race boot. the beast instep is pretty generous. the falcon instep might actually be tighter than in the lange comp pro, it's a really snug fitting boot, but i felt that when you flex the boot, the lower portion of the cuff comes into contact with the instep buckle and really presses down on the top of my foot, otherwise i would have been all over that boot.
  6. did they rebuild yet? i might be up later tonight after work. probably wont be on the hill til like 7ish.
  7. snag em now, they don't exist next year. they're getting replaced by the rx130, which is awesome for me, not for you.
  8. next year's lange rx130. 97mm last with all the comfort features of a freeride boot.
  9. you know brian used to work at nestors, right?
  10. the speed machine shell is a little snugger fitting than the beast was. primarily through the throat of the boot, as well as in the heel pocket. the speedmachine is an awesome fitting boot for people that can't squeeze into the more traditional, low volume higher performance boots.
  11. definitely dumping down in the dirty. i'm in margate right now. we just got done sledding on the sand dunes with some ghetto snowskate thing. there's well over a foot down here and still snowing really hard. maybe video to come later courtesy of rose. edit: it double quoted? why?
  12. i had never put them on before our trip either, and by the end of the trip, we were getting them on in under 5 minutes.
  13. i wouldn't put chains on your car.
  14. we all know philly and 'paralyzing snow' means like 3 inches. i might get to ski wissahickon park for the 2nd time this year!
  15. yeah at the time i didnt realize how much helmet was in the shot. for next time, i'll throw a mount farther back on my helmet.
  16. exactly. you know the shortcomings of the place, and you know the benefits. if the benefits are something you can't get elsewhere, like you say they are, then figure out a way around the shortcomings to take advantage of the benefits.
  17. powder country was open, but we didn't ski it. here's an edit from the first day at snowbasin. sorry it took so long, final cut was fighting me every step of the way.
  18. clearly you missed the part of my post where i said we took a bus to the ski area while out in utah and still didn't feel any need to bring anything that would require a locker. and you can fit a pack in the season lockers at blue. i know, i've done it plenty of times, with three pairs of skis in the locker. if you don't like blue, whatever, it doesn't directly harm me, but don't talk shit on the place for stupid little gripes that 99% of the skiing population would agree really is not that big a deal at all.
  19. without looking into the specs of your bike... you said you don't have disc brakes. i can't even begin to express how much of an upgrade a set of disc brakes would be over v brakes. the stopping power is incomparable, and they'll still work when they get wet, unlike v brakes. as for the fork, i just put a fox 32 float rlc on my giant xtc1 in the fall, and it's probably the best upgrade i've done to my bike thus far. pretty much every aspect of it is infinitely better than the stock marzocchi fork the bike came with. i've also upgraded the brakes from hayes stroker ryde discs to avid juicy 7s, but i havent ridden much since i put them on so i'm not super familiar with the differences yet, but they feel grippier. wheels would be a solid upgrade if your stock wheels are heavy and/or not very durable. from what i've been told, the wheels that came on my bike are pretty good, and i've ridden some light DH on them and i haven't had any truing issues, so i'm probably gonna stick with those for a while til something breaks. depending on what you're riding and what kinda condition they're in, some better tires might be the best investment you can make. i'm pretty stoked on maxxis high rollers right now. super grippy and still roll really fast.
  20. i didn't know there was culture there. mostly just good nightlife in AC and some decent surfing once in a while. robert, what are you bringing to the mountain that needs to go in a locker? wear a pair of shitty shoes on the bus, and that's really all you should need to put in a locker. i don't use lockers at blue, but when kt, toast, t*maki and i were out in utah, we took the bus to the ski area 2 out of 4 days, and just got our shit straight at the car in the parking lot and got on the bus. lots of people wore shoes and carried boots, but i really can't see what else you'd need to check in a locker, aside from food maybe?
  21. i'm gonna be up tomorrow night with some people from work. wanna take a few laps on the park skis?
  22. please let me know when this is going to happen. it really might be worth paying money to see. how securely is your hip locked into it's socket these days?
  23. mikovits says they reshaped the lips and they're way to poppy for the landings now?
