i hope to visit the town of Brecken Ridge someday... do people not proofread this shit?

we got about 1.5" of rain on saturday and then it dipped below freezing. now that it's staying cold, i think things should be looking pretty good by wednesday after a few nights of snowmaking. anyone else gonna be up wednesday?

i thought the 6 pack happened before ray passed? they kinda dropped the ball early on by not pushing to get open when boulder, camelback, etc were really going for it, but saturday's downpour and opening day aside, i think conditions have been pretty good for the most part this year. definitely better than last year. they've got a really fun park setup right now, which is better than what they had at this point last year for sure. they've added mountain biking for summer revenue, and did a great job with that too.

you riding wednesday or thursday at all? i have off work so i should be up all day.

that happened; it was called ski patrol. except it was 100% real. it was quite the side splitting comedy.

i don't quite follow this nastar business, but if the pacesetter runs a good time at national pacesetting, then average times on nightly pacesetting, doesn't this just artificially make you look like a better skier in comparison to the national average than you really are?

since doug slacked and apparently did not make it to the mtn today, i'll try and provide some entertainment. drank a bit last night, so we didn't get up to the mountain til about 10:30. saw burma was open so hit that first down to the 6 pack, then took a lap on paradise, which had really nice snow up top from all the blowover from nightmare/dreamweaver's guns. after that, hit lazy and main street a few times to make some turns and scare some turkey tuckers. went inside to grab some lunch, then came back out and spent the rest of the afternoon in come around. saw lots of people fall pretty horribly for dumb things, like not taking enough speed into the barrel bonk and faceplanting onto the landing. the last victim was toast. the video speaks for itself... http://www.vimeo.com/8324972 we took a few more laps after that and called it a day. i had to get back down to philly since i've got to go back to work tomorrow, but i still didn't get my ski fix for the day, so i drove around for a few minutes looking for the best spot, and ended up parking in a development off bell's mill road in wissahickon park. threw on my boots, mounted my bike light to my helmet, and hiked for some turns. definitely not 2 feet, but plenty of snow to cover most everything on the ground that could destroy skis. having a few inches of leaves under it all didn't hurt either. only skied in the wiss for about 45 minutes, but it was pretty fun skiing in philly. i wish i had a better light so the video would have turned out a little bit better. if i'm feeling motivated, i might try and head out for a few before work tomorrow morning. http://www.vimeo.com/8324762 edit: why does embedding media not work?

i left the mtn at about 830 and there was about 5 inches on my car. the sides of lazy and main street were pretty fun. tomorrow morning should be a lot of fun. i wish there was an anything goes policy as far as trail boundaries like frost. i bet some of the MTB trails would be ride-able tomorrow.

do you mean fiberlene? i don't know if lint free paper towel is really the right term. basically it's useful if you use their method start to finish. instead of dripping wax onto your base, crayon it on. you get a more even distribution quicker without having to push it around with the iron, and you waste much less wax. once it's crayoned on, then you put the fiberlene between your ski/board and the iron, and iron tip to tail. it'll melt the wax, prevent the hot iron from coming into contact with your edges, and basically scrapes for you, and since you crayoned the wax on, there's not enough wax on there to completely saturate the fiberlene, so you've got pretty much no cleanup at all. works really well if you've got their whole setup with the precut fiberlene and their iron with the fiberlene clip on the front, but it's pricey. i usually crayon on, but use a ghetto walmart iron that's probably terrible for my bases and scrape + vacuum my mess when i'm done.

whenever i got up from philly i take the turnpike to the parkway, then take the exit off the parkway to route 17 towards mahwah, then take 17 up to 87 in NY. seems to be a little bit quicker than staying on the parkway going out towards NYC before picking up 87, and there's a bunch of fast food places to hit up so you don't have to get out of the car and stop at a rest stop. definitely don't take 91, just 87 to the 2nd exit i believe for rutland, which i think is exit 24? fort ann, whitehall, glenns falls area.

trying to clear out some closet space and pay for my trip to utah in january. i took the photos with a go pro camera, hence the fisheye effect to some of the photos. it doesnt like artificial lighting very much, so i color corrected as best i could. i'm 6'1, 165lbs, and the outerwear fit was pretty baggy on me, but not hernik harlaut g-suit style baggy. quiksilver todd richards shell. used one season. brown and golden yellow. doesn't say on the coat, but i'm pretty sure its 10k/10k. coat has interior mp3 pocket with slit for headphone cord on left side of jacket. sleeves have bum glove/monkey paw/whatever you call them things to keep snow from going up your sleeves. size large. $75 bonfire noise shell pants. used two seasons. brown, bought to match quiksilver coat. 5k/5k. inside leg zips to keep you from getting swampy. pants are a little worn, primarily in the cuff area from regular wear. size large. $40. scott airtime glove. brand new. black leather and tan nylon. size large. retail price is $75, looking for $50. dakine gloves. don't really know much about them, other than they're black nylon with DKdry, which is dakine's version of goretex. had a pair of their gloves that were similar to this before and they were warm and dry. slightly used, looking for $10. skullcandy icon headphones. brand new in mesh bag i got them in. black and red. i have another pair and don't need these, which is why i am selling them. retail for $25, looking for $15. i also have a pair of size XL Roach downhill knee/shin pads. paid $30 shipped for them, but they are a little too big for my skinny legs. they'd probably fit someone 6'+ 180lbs+. i'd just like to get my money back on them, so $30 and they're yours. grab these things if you plan on biking up at blue once the snow melts! all prices are starting points. if you see something you're interested in and don't like the price, let me know and we can discuss it. all prices listed are assuming i meet up with you somewhere and do not include shipping. i am usually at blue or sometimes boulder on weekends, and bear creek one or two nights a week.

windbreaker pants are not waterproof. water resistant for about 5 minutes, maybe. but definitely not waterproof. the 'uniform' burton made for the US olympic snowboard team for 2010 has denim pants.

how's come around looking? seems like everyone who was there yesterday left before they opened it. i'll be up tomorrow night after work to check things out.

kinda bummed i am gonna miss it, but i'll be skiing okemo tomorrow so i guess its ok.

while its a bummer you can't open soon, i just want to let you know that its awesome how much information you're giving everyone here mark. it's a lot more than some of the other ski areas do, and it means a lot to keep your season pass holders and regulars updated on what's going on when we're all dying to get on snow.

also, nestors usually has discounted day tickets for blue, bear, camelback, and maybe elk. not sure if they're in yet though.

that sounds like just about every single storm that rolled through last year. starts off all good, then for some dumb reason, there's always a warm front behind it, it rains, and blue (sidewinder specifically) turns to ice for about a week before they decide to blow snow again.

you might want to consider joining a ski club, even if you don't participate in any of their events. my parents are members of mack ski club, which is based out of allentown, and never really do anything with the club, but by being a member, they can buy discounted tickets to various local areas, as well as a few up north and out west. i used to get relatively cheap, i think around $15 or so, tickets to boulder through this method. i'm sure prices have gone up since then, this was about 5 years ago though.

before the 6pack was there for doug to get all hot and bothered over, they opened the quad without lazy being open. pretty sure they just had main st. down to shuttle or whatever that thing is called to lower park without any features in it. a year or two before the 6pack i think? although i'd have to agree with what i'm guessing your stance is on it, in that it really doesnt make sense to run that lift for what are essentially cat tracks and runouts for half the vert you're skiing off of it.
