i wasnt there for big air this past season, but from what i've heard that jump was pretty big. nothing they ever had on sidewinder was even approaching 70 feet. honestly, 50 would have been a stretch. i'd take a nice floaty 40 footer over a dangerous 70 footer any day.

i think we're closing in on 2" too... except its rain.

tables are nice, but take a ton of snow to make properly. you can accomplish the same trajectory/airtime with a properly built stepover style jump, which they should have no problem doing now with a winch cat. less snow + scary drop off the lip if you roll it = less gapers rolling lips, at least in theory.

they seem a little confused/outdated/uneducated...

i know you've got no way to predict how crowded it's gonna be, but realistically, is this going to be a muddy shitshow with one or two rails, or will it there actually be more than 10 square feet of snow to land on before falling into a puddle? for some people, that could be the difference between boulder and driving north to VT.

i'm fine with that from the standpoint that i don't need more people in the park sitting on landings. from a financial perspective, yes, they could probably be catering to the loaded folks in central/north jersey a little harder.

i'm heading back down to philly afterwards for halloween anyway...

if its actually decent out, i was planning on mtn biking at blue in the morning then hitting up boulder. any idea what they're planning for a setup? its obviously not going to be cold enough for them to blow, so is this gonna be like 200+ kids hitting an ice rink one or two rail setup in the mud kinda deal or what?

i see two, maybe three days before that first saturday that they could blow snow. i know it probably only takes 3 days to get freedom open, but thats with optimum snowmaking weather, which 29 degrees is not. first week in november looks like a stretch as of right now. the forecast that many days out though is generally based on seasonal averages moreso than what's actually blowing across the country, so it could change.

it would probably be more worthwhile for them to sell the pipe cutter instead of keeping it just to make a QP at the bottom. that trail will see gaper traffic, and i think quarterpipes get beat up more than any other feature by gapers. it'd be the same problem all over again, in that they'd have to be cutting the thing almost daily to keep it nice. it would be nice if they could use the pipe cutter to put transition under the wallrides, but i dont think either of them are high enough to make that an option.

and if they somehow manage to scrounge up a rope tow to put in there, it would make for what could be the best rail park around. think the plaza at boulder without having to hike. that would be awesome.

i hope its better than your cameo in the ski patrol tv show...

you know they're putting a bunch of rails in where the pipe is, right? a bunch of the new stuff they're building will be going down there.

you actually go up to someone in real life and that's how you initiate conversation? i'm surprised they gave you the acknoqledgment of even standing there and listening to you; i would have just walked away and not wasted my time. you wonder why people give you a hard time, but it's crap like this that makes it pretty clear. you're basically asking for it. as for blue... the 15-day looks like it'll be getting a little colder beginning of november, hopefully the weather cooperates and they can start cranking out some snow for an early opening again this year!

i can give the opposite opinion: nights and crowded weekends. yeah, it gets beat up, but for the most part, lips stay in pretty good shape, landings get a little bombed at times, it gets icy, like anywhere, but there are no jumps around turns, or features around turns for that matter, except for the c box in the corner above the octopod. for you guys who live out west, when you're back if you can get to blue midweek during the morning/early afternoon, the park should be pretty prime, and just as fun as anything else around. i thought the 3 hit line at blue was more fun than the crappy jump line on love park at boulder. the only jump line worth hitting up at boulder was on boulder park, and ttc6 claiming 65 is a bold statement, it hit that around mid january for about a week. the weekend i was there hitting it, there were probably about 6 or 7 of us touching the thing, let alone spinning it. i don't think many people realize how big 65 actually is. edit: in response to glenn's post while i was typing... worst feature there. by far. shit's straight dangerous.

no, i've never 'scene' a national park competition. do they compare who's got the coolest wildlife and best rock formations? honestly, did you ride blue last year? aside from the inevitable ice and bombholes after rails on warmer days (you don't hit rails anyway, right?), they did a pretty good job of maintaining the parks. i think they did just as good a job as boulder, and easily as good a job as bear creek compared to the times i was at either of those two places. i don't understand what your gripe with the not-straight trails is. the first section is a nice option of rail lines. the flow ends there. the next section is the jumpline, ending with a wallride. again, logical place for the flow to end. the next section is a couple rails/boxes/random jibby things, which doesn't really have any flow because they're just scattered everywhere anyway. i would think this would actually suit you well, since you don't hit rails and there's less of a chance of a chance of you snaking someone since there's a logical start point for the jump line instead of having to just cut in to a jumpline after a rail or two (boulder park with the handrail up top or either of bear creek's parks). no?

buckmans did a good job with putting everything together, but the movie didn't really impress me. granted i ski, but there were lots of times throughout the movie when i'd hear kids go nuts about some trick that just went down and it was like, ok, people have been doing that on skis for a while now, so it just didn't really impress me too much. jeremy jones' segment, however, was pretty awesome, and i didn't even like the song haha. i thought it was pretty cool because a lot of it was stuff that's just not possible on skis. the afterparty at silk city was ok. dj was pretty good, good beer selection, crappy cheese fries. it was fun cause i got to meet up with some friends who i don't get to hang out with in philly that often, but i've definitely been to better premiers, overall. msp movie is coming up on wednesday, maybe some pasr folks will be there?

new boxes - yes. new rails - most are square tubing. all the welds look super smooth too. they're doing an awesome job.

yeah, around there. something softer flexing will be easier for you since you're sort of just starting out skiing.

for twintips, go head high. my girlfriend is 5'8 and rides 169s. the only thing shorter skis do for you is make it easier to spin by learning the wrong way. when you learn how to set a spin properly the length of the ski doesn't really matter, hence why most pros will use the biggest size available for extra stability.

now, i know nothing about you, since you failed to give us any information that could allow us to help you, but... unless you're a midget, 161 is too short. how tall are you, how much do you weigh, have you skied before, how long have you skied, etc. also, $120 will get you something in urban condition if that includes bindings. you're not gonna find much thats mountain-worthy for that price.

they charged that much? uhhh i don't think they were charging that much when i was up there for rails to riches the first weekend in december. you sure about that? pretty sure when i was up there for opening weekend last it was more along the lines of $30-$35.
