sounds like you don't like flying very much... if he's living close to EWR, there's probably public transit he can take to the airport, therefore negating the need for airport parking. whenever i've taken public transit to fly out of philly, it's been super easy and hassle free, aside from getting pulled to the back room by overzealous TSA folks. if you know how to pack, all you need to check is your ski bag, so worst case scenario, they lose your skis, you demo a few new ones and make the airlines pay to replace the stuff they lost. i can generally get all my other gear in my carry on and personal item bag or whatever. the people on the flight might hate you for carrying on your ski boots, but oh well, it makes my life easier.

bear creek has a pretty sweet cliff...

i'm kinda surprised you havent jumped into a pair of full tilts with all the flexon love you've got going on.

maybe your local board shop needs to step up their game?

ahh the good old days. as of last i checked, $75. i just mooch space in my parents locker though, so i'm not sure.
-
has she tried them on? i checked those out a few years ago and the crash pads brand pads i found to be much more comfortable and less restrictive.

the only 'carver' you'll find in a 180ish is gonna be a gs ski. when you say midfat, are we talking traditional low to mid 70s midfat, or real midfat, like 80-90ish? something like the nordica helldiver in the lower 170 range would suit you well.

snowtubing has its own separate building/bubble now, so that really wouldnt have been an issue.

i snowboard maybe twice a year, so i've got no experience riding the board, nor would me riding it be any sort of credible opinion whatsoever, but everyone i've talked to who owns one absolutely loves it. a member here who now rides in the PNW has one and absolutely loves it, and one of the guys from nestors got one last year and said it was the best board he's ever ridden. seems like a happy medium of an all mountain board. not crazy rocker like on a straight up pow board, but a little more than the jib rocker a lot of companies are using, so it'd probably work pretty well as an everyday board.

so the rocker us underfoot, with camber in the nose and tail? that's the most asinine thing i've heard in a while. camber underfoot with rocker tip and tail would make more sense it seems. thats what a lot of ski companies are doing.

they've rented season lockers for as long as i can remember. my parents have had one for the last five or six years now, super convenient when you're going inside to grab food and not have to wait in the ski check line.

thats good that your hip is still in walking shape.

for what it's worth, i know they've said they're ditching the pipe, but i was up over the weekend and the dirt where the pipe is still looks rather pipe-like. i'd think if they're scrapping the pipe they'd regrade that so they wouldnt need so much snow. might try and get up again this weekend and see what i can discover.

i'll vouch for the hestras as well. i used my bro's once or twice last winter and for how thin they are, they're super warm and waterproof, so i copped a pair of the seths. everything dan said is spot on. use leather waterproofer of your choice and they'll hold up super well. i also had a pair of level leather gloves that i liked a lot, but hestras just seem to be made a little bit better.

they dont teach english out in leadville huh?

thanks to everyone who came out and either brought in gear to sell, or picked up some new (used) stuff for this season. the snow's coming soon!

and i hope you're kidding, because that was consistantly one of the worst features on the mountain.

my understanding of it was that once he stopped really being involved as much in the film making aspect of his business, he didn't really like the way things were headed, and just severed his ties with the company. more than likely, there was a non-compete signed. i've never seen a non-complete last for longer than 5 years, because at that point, you really shouldn't have any ties to the business anymore. since it's been more than 5 years since warren miller left WME, he wouldn't be violating the non-compete, and therefore could do whatever he wants in the ski industry so long as what he's doing isnt being promoted as a WME project, which Refresh was not. i don't know all the specific legal details, but it seems like WME should be out of luck on this one.

WHERE is the best place to ski if you don't drive
Justo8484 replied to Robert2's topic in General Chat
i've done slc at least three times now without a car. it's like $50 or something for an airport shuttle that will take you from the airport, stop wherever for groceries on the way, and then drop you off at your hotel/condo, and pick you back up for your return flight. once you're in the park city area, they have a great bus system that runs until around midnight and starts at like 7am, so theres really no need for a car. going in early november won't get you very much snow though. -
just saw that you posted this, you beat me to it. i'm not sure how worthwhile it would be to try and get an across the board boycott of the showings of his film this year, but it's an option i guess. i know at NACC they show his newest movie every year, but it benefits their ski club, which i would feel bad for taking away necessary funds from that. i don't think i've ever bought a warren miller movie, but i certainly won't buy one any time soon.

for real? since they just bought that nice new pipe cutter like two years ago? there better be an excellent rail garden going in its place...
-
alive, yeah, we can see that. well is such a subjective term though.
-
have i mentioned lately that i hate you... the only precipitation we're getting in philly is of the strictly liquid variety.

i'll vouch for jb weld. i've rebuild completely blown out sidewalls with the stuff and skied on em for the rest of the season. surfboard resin works pretty well also, since it's made to bond to fiberglass, aka the stuff that's wrapped around the core of the k2 PE
