somebody got ripped off.
-
thank god. and keith... judging from that flythrough thing they showed at the movie tonight, it looked like sidewinder was about 1000 feet longer than it actually is... how is all that stuff gonna fit?
-
leaving philly now... see you there!
-
yes. i guess i need to get my skis mounted.
-
which jacked it from Poor Boyz Productions' 'War' from several seasons back. songs get recycled rather frequently in the snowsports industry.
-
the tranny box doesnt look terrible. it could be fun for switch ups and at least its not 4 feet wide like the rollercoaster.
-
i dont think blue pulls from a stream for snowmaking, they have a few ponds that are probably spring-fed.
-
i rode them for about half of last season til i got my fujatives. i liked them better as an all mtn ski than i did as a park ski, but if you're heavier than me (165lbs) and dont really like to do buttery type stuff, then you'll love them. you can still butter with them, but they were a little stiff for my liking compared to the fujatives. they're unbelievably durable for a 300 dollar ski though thats for sure.

word on the street is you need report cards or something on a school letterhead for student passes to jfbb this year

you must have lost your game since you're back to your real life again i see... but anyway, your post pretty much sums up my thoughts. i could almost comfortably sleep on something 4 feet wide. a rollercoaster box that was maybe 18 inches wide, thats pretty standard, but 4 feet? you get to a point when a box gets so wide its actually more dangerous because if you fall, there's no chance you're going to fall on snow, you're going to fall on plastic or steel. when the coping has a hard edge to it, like most of blue's boxes do, i would much rather fall on snow than angular steel. every other ski area bases their parks on well built jumps and simple, versatile rails that allow creativity, and they have success with it. giant sliding boards and swingsets and art sculptures and junkyard scraps get old once you've done enough calculus to figure out the exact angle and trajectory needed to hit them without dying.
-
what? WHY? such an incredible waste of time, money, materials, and trail space that could be used for building a nice jump.
-
the bigger staircase was unhitable and sometimes even closed off every time i was at bear last year. i guess its easier to hit the thing on a snowboard cause you can just pull your nose up to get onto it, but with what little lip the thing had, it was near impossible on skis every time we were there.

he could probably get away with one of the biggest sizes of kids skis you could find. we do a kids program at nestors where you can buy your kid some gear, and then if its too small for them at the beginning of the next season, you can trade it back in for half of what you paid.
-
well, if its the 161 he's looking for, then i cant help him out. we have two pairs of 176s left over from last year that we're blowing out just to get rid of them, thats why they're so cheap. sorry for the mix up, i didnt know what size you needed.
-
i think retail on that ski might actually be more like 649. but no one pays retail, unless you live in aspen.
-
maybe they're not in it for the 'business' part of the business? maybe they just want to get their riding out there, give kids something to get stoked on riding, and recover their costs for doing so, and not actually turn a profit like poor boyz or msp?
-
374.98 at nestors doug. good try though. we can do that ski with a salomon binding to double your warrenty on the ski for under 425 as well.
-
but look at it this way, you'll only have to fill up like twice during the whole trip! although you might have to make the trip twice just to get all your ski gear there...

what "people" are you referring to, exactly? and do you have access to all of blue's receipts to see how much i've paid for my pass, which i haven't bought yet this year? i'm not cutting my own throat, i'm just telling what i know from experiences i've had, good and bad. there's a lot of people at blue who really care about their customers, and would do whatever it takes to make sure someone has a great day riding. there are also individuals up there who don't always go the extra mile. seeing as how i usually end up skiing at blue over 50 days a year, i've had plenty of experiences on both ends of the spectrum, from the ticket office employees who have given me no hassle whatsoever when i've left my pass in my other paid of ski pants, to the guy in the lodge who picked up one of my friends and threw him out through the double doors because he was smoking a cigarette (back when the bar side of the lodge was not smoke free.) i emailed blue about an issue i had, was given a response that did not address my issue, emailed back asking about the issue again, and was basically put on their shit list. as far as i can tell, there was a large miscommunication, but i just try not to have to deal with the parties involved anymore, so its a mute point. i don't see what you're really getting on my case for.
-
first of all, you don't know what i pay for my pass. second of all, you don't know the half of why i have certain feelings for certain aspects of the place, so maybe you should not call me out for stuff you know nothing about? k thanks.
-
never met him personally, just know him through newschoolers. i need to get myself out of PA quick so i can ride stuff like that every day.
-
yes! malone slays it, as does everyone else in that trailer. you ride with those guys at all, or just stumble across that trailer?
-
so the groomers know they need a winch cat, everyone who rides the park knows they need a winch cat to get the landings where they should be, can someone inform management?
-
i completely forgot about that rail! but yeah that rail is super fun too. the one i was talking about may not exist anymore; i think they bent it to make the old long c rail? but this was like, before sidewinder was a park, there was a long rail going from the deck of the halfpipe down into the lower park, the landing was around where the rainbow box was this past winter. thats exactly what i would like to see too. i was out at canyons in utah over spring break, and they had 4 jumps in their big park, the longest being about 50 feet, but it was super poppy with a steep landing that you couldnt overshoot. even their shorter stuff that was about 25-30 feet, you had more airtime than anything at blue, and its easier to set for corks and whatnot with a longer smoother lip too. blue's had some stuff with real poppy lips, but the transition wasnt smooth enough, and we all know the landing was never steep enough either. their was an article on newschoolers like last year written by the guy who grooms the jump for the WSI big air or something like that explaining the process he goes through when building jumps, and what he uses, and he mentioned using a winch cat to groom landings was key, and that the angle of the slope of the landing should be about 33 degrees, which i think is kind of steep to groom without using a winch cat?

battleship and rainbow rails set up with nice lips on them? that'd be fun. what happened to the c rail? that thing was fun too. ok, one more for now... remember the single barrel that went from the halfpipe deck down into the lower park? bring that back, that setup was way ahead of its time.
