  1. They got to move the park on Barb’s. It is a zoo with people going to summit lift. No room for the park rats to use the features.
  2. The scary part is not the crowd at the bottom, but the crowd coming down the trail.
  3. There is a newish chain hotel at the Lehighton exit of 476. Maybe 15, 20 to Blue
  4. Widowmaker wasn’t too bad, a little disappointed with Main Street but it was ok. Hate to say it, but the best run of the day was first run of Paradise. Too afraid of the crowd on Lazy to try it, especially after they opened Challenge lift. Lines were building up before they opened it. Lower Paradise was packed later coming off of TCS, but OK if you stayed next to the right side trees. Crowds got too much for me about 11:45. Desperately need Switch and Side opened. Had some coffee in the lot under my back hatch.
  5. The acid plant was built in 1970 (the latest is several that had been at the site), but some of the chemical production buildings were from the 1920s. 700 people worked there, everything razed now, a huge concrete slab. It is on the southern approach to EWR, so I see it once in a while.
  6. Chemical engineer. MA in Theology was a layman’s degree - one reason I took it was because I wanted to get out of Jersey for a couple of years after getting a BS ChE from Ruptures, the state university.
  7. I worked in an outdoor sulfuric acid plant just south of the Bayway refinery in Elizabeth NJ for several years. Talk about miserable work in the winter. One time we had to put 240 volts on our 120 heat tracing to keep everything from freezing. More recently worked at a turbine power plant just south of Butte, MT. New plant, well insulated.
  8. A day with the DW at Frost. Everything pretty much open on the west side with the exception of Exhibition, and they have a dozen guns and a fan on that. Maybe this weekend. Huge whales on one park (which was open), maybe will reset the features for the weekend. Snow is its usual great condition. Frost usually keeps the whales intact until they groom it all out. No death cookie factories here. Quiet vibe today, some geezers, some newbies, some boarders. Don’t know about east mountain, but the crossovers top and bottom are covered. No tubing so far this year.

Second Jrwit’s assessment. Good day. About 10 degrees with no wind. Started with a run on Paradise to get the knee juice flowing, and then up to freefall, just as they were closing it - caught the rope across my throat as they raised it, but they let me through. Pretty slick, but nice - then it was closed for adult gate practice. Headed over to the Summit lift. Upper Main Street was closed because it was half groomed. Ran lazy Mile, which was nice but even then getting pretty crowded with people coming down from the challenge lift as well as the summit lift. Spent the rest of the morning doing Vista Midway and lower Main. They were all in great shape and surprisingly, about 10 lower was pretty empty. No lift lines. The adaptive coach jacket/lime jacket people were in the house and had a whisker run set up near the upper lodge. Apparently the guns were shut down because of a power alert in the township. They started up again about 11, and were blowing on upper main, Curzi’s, Razors, as well as other high traffic areas. Ran the Falls a couple of times and tried to avoid the lower terrain park because it got pretty crowded. Didn’t really see anyone except the Beth Ford crew.
  10. Remote learning day today. Another legacy from Covid.
  11. I had (have) Morton’s neuroma that made xc skiing an agony. Plaster cast custom orthotics and metatarsal pads worked great. Had to cut down one set to fit in the ski boots, but they are great.

I park there too. Say hi if you see me in my rocking chair.
  13. Starting to rain.
  14. One of those is my go-to. Not saying which one.
  15. Always had a great view of them from chair 6. That was as close as I would want to get. Climbing Mt Marcy with a full pack on was one of the stupider things I’ve done.
  16. Too true.
  17. Whiteface? Was he going to run the slides? Have you run them? Think a beacon is my son’s next bday present.
  18. Don’t think it was, didn’t recognize anyone standing around.
  19. I tend to recognize people more by their ski technique and gear rather than their face.
  20. Actually I prefer the term “geezer”, I’ve earned it. More descriptive of how everything hurts after a morning on the slopes.
  21. Saw a boomer being loaded into the ambulance near the patrol shack when I quit today about 11. Bunch of concerned boomers looking on. Don’t know if it was one of the geezer regulars or a club.
  22. BMR parents pay a lot more than it costs to take a lesson. But hopefully the liftline issues have been resolved. Now they need to work on the packed slopes and not hold back the guns next week. Had to wait on top several times today until the crowd on the run thinned out a little.
  23. We built this city. We built this city on rock and roll. 😀 (just watched a video on the development of Unix. Talk about Stone Age).
  24. Freefall the run of the morning and became better as things softened up, although Lazy Mike was a close second. A lot of small bluecoat lesson groups on the hill.
