  1. No doubt being in a packed corral for 15 minutes with most not wearing masks puts you at risk no matter what precautions you take, although I think a well fitting N95 mask helps a lot, along with goggles. And I do have the high octane Moderna. Going to be close with 2 one year olds and a 2 year old over the holidays. Worried I might have it and not realize it, since the initial symptoms are ‘feeling old’, which I do all the time except when crusing down a slope hyped up on Advil. But we do have a half dozen boxes of rapid tests. Most epidemiologists are saying the thought that Omicron is less severe is just media trying to down play it.
  2. Think I’ll suspend skiing until more trails and lifts are opened. Looking back on yesterday it was pretty scary with packed corrals and very few wearing masks. I didn’t realize until I got home that they only had two lifts open for the whole mountain, and one of those was the short beginner lift. They are pretty strict about the lodge, but all bets are off for once you are on the mountain. Omicron variant at 75% in the US? Scary contagious. Maybe I’m watching too much CNN. We are having our one and two year old grandkids over for Christmas, and my wife would kill me if I got Covid.
  3. Coming soon might be a quick and easy trail to get covered to relieve pressure on Paradise.
  4. No, not much seems to be going on at east mountain, but they do seem to be blowing on the nearby tubing area. Will take a closer look tomorrow.
  5. Back from a short morning at Frost. Got there about 930 temperature was 24°, nice and sunny. They were blowing snow on challenge. DeMattes was nice and groomed and they had some fresh snow on one park with the left side left a little powdery. They only had one top to bottom left running, and it got really crowded about 1030. Even coming from Jane’s Lane you had to take that one lift at the bottom of one park. Looks like college is out and there’s no place else to go other than frost. There were a lot of lifties from round top and liberty. Had three snowboarders sitting across the middle of DeMattes right at the top of the head wall nicely spaced out to take up most of the trail. Don’t know what they are thinking. Will try to get there right at opening tomorrow morning. not a good picture, but I didn’t want to stop on the trail and waste time.
  6. Epic Northeast Weekday Pass, senior discount.
  7. 32 degrees this morning in Kunkletown at an elevation of 1000 ft.
  8. Have a weekday only pass.
  9. Crème Brûlée.
  10. Are you working at that Warbird restoration place in Reading?
  11. Got a new toy. Still working on laying down a smooth layer of wax.
  12. Rollers seemed to be on the left side only.
  13. You fell into my trap. 9:00 I found myself at Blue. Just did a couple of runs before bailing out to Frost.
  14. Got there late, today, about 11. Got lost driving to the slopes. 41° when I started and 44 when I left, overcast but with a nice wind blowing down the hill. Packed powder, with just a touch of grabbiness up top just before I left. About two dozen people on one Park and DeMattes. It was nice that everyone was a pretty good skier. Able to build my skillz by doing some drills on the slope and practice some YouTube video carving techniques. Got about 15 runs in. Since both blue and Frost only have slow lifts, I prefer the shorter lift with the shorter run at this point in the season. Plus, the west chair of the blue twin lift is definitely slower than the east chair or the frost chairs. Electronic problem resolved with the new phone, so nice tunes all day. About to head down to the basement to touch up the edges and redo the wax.
  15. Monday conditions were nice. Got there about 10 and left 12:30. 40 degrees warming up to 45. Sunny, loose granular, never got at all slushy, no skid marks. DeMattes was in very good shape as was One Park. No lift lines except for a couple of times the lift stopped. A lot of boarders today. The close lot never got full (although the slope side u is blocked off). Not as challenging as Midway and Lower Main Street, but my max speed at Blue last week was 30 mph, and at Frost today was 45, and conditions held up well, so there is that. Hate having to skid to keep my speed down. Knees are holding up well, some electronic problems with the new phone though, lack of an audio port is a pain.
  16. They took all the lockers out, and closed off the inside valet drop off area. Monday, everything west of the cafeteria was dark. The bar up top was open without a vax card.
  17. There is a sign saying no personal items to be left in lodge. Don’t know if they are going to enforce it.
  18. Got to Jack Frost about 10 o’clock and skied until about noon. Was about 26° when I got there, no wind with hazy sunshine that clouded over during the morning. Did a couple of runs on Jane’s Lane, then spent the rest of the day on one park. Several jumps were set up on the top third but the bottom 2/3 were clear. Snow is in good shape, pretty grippy, and I probably skied too fast for the first day out but it felt pretty good. VAX card required to enter the building, and the only entrance open was the slopeside one. Blowing snow on Demattes, could be a rough week next week for the snow coverage. Light crowd, but more were coming in for the afternoon. Try to hit Blue tomorrow to add to the Boomers there.
  19. Towing the Jeep is enough.
  20. Like your outfit too, but as you get older, you need more comfort.
  21. Just got back from our fall trip out west, visiting New Mexico. Trip didn’t start out too well, with a large branch falling on our windshield coming out of a state park in Missouri. But other than that, it went pretty well. Visited the area around Taos, then west towards Los Alamos and the state parks and BLM land in that area. Then south to the lava fields south of Grant along with Inscription rock. Then further south to Silver city and the Gila National Monument area.
  22. Fever and runny noses.
  23. My niece took her family to Walt Disney World 2 weeks ago and they all have Covid now. Fortunately they are vaxed and only having mild symptoms so far.
  24. The entire natural dietary supplement industry is unregulated by the FDA, unless a supplement is obviously killing people like ephedra does.
  25. My son and daughter-in-law just left to go back to Sacramento after visiting for 2 weeks. She constantly got ‘all call’ texts from her hospital asking any available nurse to schedule additional shifts. They are starting to get a bunch of pediatric Covid patients.
