  1. Ouch, crashed near end of second run. Nothing broken or torn apparently, but return tbd. Some road rash though.
  2. Guns are on at JF/BB
  3. Alzheimer’ kicking in.
  4. Was up at Blue lower area being sure my pass worked. Last year, first day, first in line at rope drop and the pass wouldn’t scan. New coffee bar across from the store. Plus parking area next to the patrol shack is pass holders and handicapped only. Gravel trucks going in.
  5. Light cover was on the ground at Little Gap, not the roads. Gone now.
  6. Shiffern 99. Slalom replay on Peacock.
  7. Saw a drilling rig at our neighbors yesterday.
  8. Carv is coming out with a new sensor. No more footbed sensors, just a module that clips onto your boot straps. Gyroscopes and motion sensors. Claims more accurate, better in off-piste, AI trained using huge database of users history. Current users can upgrade for free with a yearly subscription to the service. We’ll see how it does in a couple of months. This after some surgery on the boots to account for the thickness of the footbeds. Just getting comfortable again the last few days of the season. Oh well.
  9. Amazing how a near death experience changes your priorities in life.
  10. Saw that at rope drop. My wife was cleaning closets a couple of weeks ago, and made me throw out my Obermyer padded sweater I wore on ski trips together with her from the early 80s. Stretch pants went a long time ago.
  11. Razors got really nice after it softened up a little.
  12. After last Friday I was surprised at how nice it was, although I only did 2 runs on NM/DW (8 on Razors).
  13. First civilian tracks on NM/DW today. Like skiing on smooth butter. That one run was worth a trip up, not to mention letting the skis loose on lower Razors after the narrow bottleneck.
  14. Most people are on NM/DW, and the heavy snow is wearing people out quickly.
  15. Surprising good. Soft but the slopes held up well. No features on NM/DW, Razors was flat, but a bump line was being created on skiers left. Crowded at first, then it quieted down a little until the youngs started arriving. Some narrow sections, and a headwind made the top and bottom a little tedious. Crowds not too bad, corral about half full and people on razors were all pretty good skiers and kept out of each other’s way.
  16. I think mine were like $65 a couple of years ago
  17. I bought Smith goggles on an end of season sale, and later purchased a clear lens at retail. Cost me more than the original goggle purchase that had 2 lens included.
  18. Heard talk about bad fuel.
  19. April this year. We used to put on the river at the pillars and hoped we wouldn’t get hit by falling concrete.
  20. I really like them, although I had to rework the padding in my boots to account for the 3 mm thickness. You can select about 6 skill training areas (early edging, parallel skis, inside/outside ski pressure, etc). You can turn on active coaching and get a good beep or a bad beep depending on if you make the skill target for each turn. Or you can free ski, listen to your tunes, and only get the summary on the lift up. They adjust the target after about 10 turns to account for varying conditions. Ski width and stiffness, grooming, snow conditions and steepness affect your scores in addition to your skills. One tip they gave recently for parallel skis and turn shape was to imagine you have a wine glass between your boots and you tilt your boots to spill the wine from side to side without dropping the glass. 😂 Reminds me of that 70s song. They continually update the training based on the data they pull in. The units use the newer Bluetooth that can support multiple connections so you can use your earbuds, although I have wired helmet speakers. It’s also nice since I usually ski alone, it gives me something to keep occupied with. I think it’s helped my skiing a lot, particularly with reducing pressure on my inside ski, gradual build up and a quick release of pressure on the outside ski at the initiation of the next turn. A lot of data can be displayed later in the app. Not specifically for bumps, powder or crud, but the general ski improvement helps. You do need to ski a lot to get your money’s worth.
  21. They are saying bumps on Razors.
  22. Don’t see them too often, but hear them in the woods a lot. They have a ‘chick bree’ alarm call. Looks like they are closing the D&L near White Haven for 4 years to replace the I 80 bridge.
  23. Scarlet Tanager. Occasionally visit the yard. Haven’t been to the wildlife sanctuary, have to stop in sometime.
