Floyd's is nice and flat for the race Sunday, and Rivershot and Challenge have a lot of new snow but are a little bumpy. Hopefully will be nice cord in the morning. Top section of Exhibition bumps have a lot of snow but are a little flat, bottom section are a little bigger but pretty icey.

Chilly today, out for a couple of hours this afternoon. They have been putting down a lot of snow, Challenge Glade is filled in, even the inside area closer to East Mountain lift. All the snow in the photo from that lift is from the fans.
-
At Frost Sunday afternoon I skied onto the lifts pretty much every time with no wait. Also did 6-7 runs per hour, but of course those runs are 1/2 the length of Blue. For me the major attraction of Frost is the great snow conditions. Even late Sunday afternoon Challenge was in great shape and T-bolt was good sking except for the middle of the first headwall.

Was out in the morning after a couple hours on Friday. Very solid and fast on Friday with Floyd's a little bumpy. Heading out this afternoon, taking the morning off watching FIS women's super g on nbc sports extra. Missed the big snow fall, but yesterday was great. They blew snow from the fans Friday night and left the headwalls on East mountain and Challenge with some powder. Headed right over to East before they closed Floyd's for racers, but they had the younger racers on Telstar and Solitude doing slalom, the older team was off somewhere so Floyd's was open all day. Skied a couple dozen runs listening to Springsteen until the rentals started coming over around 10. They put a lot of snow into Challenge glade, and was able to ski all the way down to the race shack - first time I skied the lower gray birch area in quite a while. Did scrape my bases a little on a camouflaged rock. Then a few runs on an empty Challenge, then Thunderbolt, Exhibition, and called it a day. Exhibition bumps looked good, being top to bottom with new snow, but decided not to push my luck. Skipped the lodge this time and booted up in the lot.

Out for a couple of hours in the afternoon, conditions cold but pretty good. Sitting out today, hopefully get out tomorrow morning. Slopes very hard but not icey (was out Sunday afternoon, took two runs and decided to call it a day). They blew snow into Challenge glade and were perhaps a little too enthusiastic, a lot of snow covered branches came down. Hopefully, the snowboarders will grind them up. They built a patch of moguls on exhibition and also blew a lot of snow on the final drop of river shot. Looking forward to tomorrow.

I heard that the racers felt they weren't competitive training on Challenge. I know when my son was racing at Frost he would freak out a little on steeper slopes at other mountains - particularly Ski Denton.
-
But on a brighter note, I like how they groomed downhill left of the towers at the bottom of Thunderbolt (and Exhibition also). Makes it easier to stay out of slower skiers way. They also groomed to the right of tower 6 above Rivershot and made it fairly wide. Gives a little variety on that run.

Don't thInk Davenport has been involved for a few years. Looks like the older race team lost their hangout in the cafe on the building south side. The whole area is waitress serve only (wait to be seated) and has lockable glass doors. Also lost the storage bins on the side near that door. More floor space going to sales, going to be pretty crowded on weekends.

Montana's done, dams on the Missouri are generating electrons for Northwestern Energy now instead of PPL, Just finishing up a project in rural northwestern Alabama. Quite a difference, good venison jerky there though. When Floyds is bumped up it is like Denali, but pretty nice when smooth. When they close Floyds, River Shot becomes unrunable due to the size and quality of the crowds. Too narrow, and I hate it when people do edge to edge turns.
-
Started a little late, had a web meeting, got on the snow about 10:30 just as they finished putting up the orange room on Floyds. Blue and black parka, black pants, gray helmet, gray Elan skis and bright Leki poles. Probably most notable for singing to myself on the slopes. Try to do something about Solitude - I'm getting too old to launch myself but not old enough to slow down.
-
For GSS, Floyds is in great shape but coming in to it Solitude has a trail wide jump that was a little unexpected. River shot is a little choppy without that nice double drop that gave it a little interest last year. Floyds is the run of the day, 53.8 ( but I think Skitracks is reading high on the new phone

First day on skis. Kind of warm and quiet on the slopes. Lots of snow slopes are fairly wide unlike last year when they started off narrow and the edges were never filled in. Nice day, legs are noodles though

big boulder PARK Open on 12/12 & 12/13

Topo map shows 410 for the Challenge lift and 530 for East Mtn. Agrees pretty much with Ski Tracks on my phone. In any case, a lot more vertical than I'm doing now. Got the NBC Sports Live Extra app and Apple TV watching other people ski. -
Owned by Peak Resorts? Same as JF/BB.
-
You found out my hidden phobia. If God had wanted us to go up a mountain at more than 4 miles an hour, he would have given us jet packs. Just the flat sections of the glades near the trail had snow.
-
No, I was waiting for JF to close first so I could get Blue's 'other ski area' deal.
-
Floyds was about 45 mph on Saturday with the headwind, but up to 54 on Sunday. Looks like I missed on on my free Blue Mtn end of season days.
-
BB will be open next week, and JF might be open next weekend, but pretty quiet this weekend. Still loads of snow - no brown spots at all. Nothing bumped up even at the end of the day. Snow remaining in the glades softened up enough to allow some edging, but Exhibition bumps looked pretty solid. Got there around 1 and it was 32 and warming. No wind which was nice after the headwind Sat morning, bluebird skies. Snow was soft but not slushy - firmer on E. Mtn. Last run on Rivershot (I think Rivershot was the run of the day): One of the best days of the year. My wife and I did the tour of E Mtn, Challenge, TBolt and then Exhibition. But all to soon the red ropes came up:

Getting in some end of season runs. Was out Monday - snow was very soft but never got slushy. Pretty much the only day of spring skiing this year. Also out late on Friday. Slopes were pretty frozen, but had some ruts from earlier in the morning when it must have been warmer. Today was pretty cold, 18 degrees on the bank thermometer. Strong headwind kept the speeds down, but wasn't as bad over on E Mtn. Slept in and got there about 9 - only about 20 cars in the lot. Filled up a little later. First runs on E. Mtn were pretty lonely. One big group of season pass holders and a few other groups on the slopes. Did a bunch of runs on T Bolt since run was pretty much shut down this week without the T Bolt chair running. Should be there tomorrow - they say they will be closed next week but maybe open next weekend. Still a ton of snow, and no brown spots, but the school spring sports season siphoned off the skiing families. Lehigh dam inflow at 650 cfs, pool is up to 1340 from 1300 on its way to 1365. Out flow is 425 - runnable if you are desperate. Water temperature 37 degrees though.

Should be a nice day, hopefully sunnier than today.

Floyds was nice, but it was so soft you couldn't build up much speed.
-
Been pretty quiet here, I may be the last man standing at Frost. Was out Monday, very soft but not slushy - spent a lot of time of Exhibition bumps trying to stretch my skills a little. Wednesday was frozen again, with a pretty strong head wind. Anything not groomed was solid. Today things were more like spring skiing, although I got pretty cold on the mountain. Very quiet at 8 AM, but things picked up quite a bit before I left at 11:30. No lift lines anywhere, but they were selling tickets. T Bolt, Challenge and E Mtn were groomed but very soft, and got rutted up after a little bit. Went back to Exhibition - the left side was all left ungroomed, so did a half dozen runs or so there. With the frozen conditions, the bumps were a little under utilized this year. Cloudy, snow showers and never got above 34 or so.

Everybody is seeing the light and the light is TS

Jack Frost closing Floyds (and by default all of East Mountain since Rivershot can't take the traffic by itself) every weekend has me reconsidering getting a season pass next year. -
Any word on using season passes from other areas, or is their Mercury Rising promotion going to replace it?
