Also looks like the proposed private Alpine motor raceway located a couple miles east of Blue Mountain Ski area will be bought out and added to the PA state game lands in that area with the help of the Nature Conservancy. http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130418/NEWS/304180323&cid=sitesearch

Under East Mtn lift yesterday. Should be part of everyone's ski lessons - white is good, brown is bad. Hope they were rental skis.

Last day of the season unless they stay open for next weekend. Mid 40s, mostly cloudy, not much wind. A good number of people out, but no lift lines. Never made it over to East Mtn, but said goodby to Challenge glade and spent most of my time on Exhibition bumps. Broke out my old PEs last night, put a structure on the bases with a Ski Vision base flattener tool, and used some new Swix yellow wax (35-50 deg). Worked pretty well - only the slightest bit of grabbyness when going over some gray slushy spots. A lot better than yesterday when I had Dominator Graphite on. No brown spots on any if the trails yet. Sun came out just as they closed the trails.

Was out for a couple of hours in the afternoon. High 30s and mostly overcast. Still a lot of coverage on the slopes, although pretty soft and a little slow. Tbolt lift was not running so had to skate from the top of east mountain to the Exhibition lift. A fair number of people out. Run of the day were the bumps on Exhibition - nice and soft. Still some snow in the Challenge glade too. At least 3 more days left to the season.

Ride Delaware ?, on 18 Mar 2013 - 18:39, said: Occasionally we have to leave our little mountain and see what the the real world is like before scurrying back with our tails tucked between our legs. Saddleback had 4 foot of snow in the past several weeks - everything was open with a nice layer of the white stuff. Took several hard looks at Dark Wizard glade, but chickened out and kept going past to Tight Line - only because we are skiing with our 9 year old downeaster niece (thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

Back from Saddleback ME, and out for a few hours in the afternoon - great conditions before the snow/sleet comes in. The few inches we had Sat helped a lot with the slope. Friday was very firm and fast with icy bumps on Exhibition, Sunday afternoon the place was almost empty, and was perfect except for a little wind blowing up the hill slowing things down. Today it was deserted and the wind was blowing down the hill. Skied Floyds looking for GSS and just broke 50 (according to Alpine Replay - my fastest run at Frost all season). Challenge was great, but only the edge of the glades were ski-able (got a nice gouge down the center of my ski - guess it wasn't all ice underneath the soft stuff). TBolt was also fast, but kept getting launched at the last headwall - like to keep my skis on the snow, but my knees don't bend far enough to pre-jump it completely. Bumps on Exhibition had a lot more soft stuff on them than on Friday, and were a good workout. Still skiing cord on the trail edges when I left at 3. Unknown skier on Floyds - wonder who it could be?

Having raised 2 kids, I'm used to dealing with children, and have probably been on the internet before most of you were born (specifically Telnet and the Usenet through computer club bulletin boards), so I am pretty used to it. If you don't feed the trolls every once in a while, they either wither away or become nasty (neither of which is much fun). Just back from Saddleback in Maine, they have had 4 feet of snow in the past few weeks, pretty good conditions all around everywhere on the mountain.

Vader is a short term for Elevator. Floyds was nice, but a little icy - too short though, rather ski Challenge and TBolt. Off to Saddleback Maine for a family ski get together, so with the warm weather next week, might be the end of the Jack Frost season for me.

Was out for a few hours Monday and Tuesday. Still great conditions on the slopes. Def spring skiing Tuesday, hopefully get some snow today. Did a poor man's base grind (6 grades of sandpaper, fibertex and Skiman base flattener tool) and reset the edges of my old Elan Apex skis, and with some Dominator Zoom Graphite wax they did great in the soft stuff. Also tried Alpine Replay on my iPhone. Like the max speed and the separate sustained speed readings. Seems pretty accurate based on what I think my speeds are. Doesn't have named runs at Frost though. Exhibition bumps were pretty icy still, but were smaller so pretty manageable. A last look at Vader:

Got out for a few hours. Pretty quiet before the big WNNR day. Slopes in surprisingly good shape after the bad weather - looks like they got snow instead of rain and have been blowing a little. Everything nicely groomed (unlike Monday). C glade still skiable if you pick your route and pop out to the trail a couple of times. Exhibition bumps are good, if shrinking a little. Vader looks to be in good shape, some blue coats going down it. One Park still has some huge jumps. Left about 3, the top was getting pretty mushy, the slopes were soft but still pretty fast. Should be a good weekend. Even made it over to the west side greens.

A couple of inches of fresh powder. Not too crowded yet.

Hope for a lot of snow tomorrow.

Up for a couple hours late morning. Conditions very good. Blew a lot of snow on Challenge and the rocks in the glade are pretty well covered. Didn't groom Challenge slope so the run was nice and soft. Still holding up well when we left at noon. Also blew a lot of snow on Exhibition bumps. Nice and soft, although the flat sections are getting a little washed out, as can be expected. A fair amount of people trying the bumps with less if a crowd watching from the lift. Nice to have the variety available. Radio station day on Friday and junior race on Saturday which will close Challenge and probably the glade.
-
Floyds was nice, the race kids were at Elk for a race, so things were pretty quiet until the rentals started coming over later in the morning. Always some amusing antics viewed from the chairlift.

After a crowded radio station day on Friday, decided to skip Saturday and hit the slopes early Sunday. A pretty nice day, not too windy, not too cold, and the sun tried to come out a few times - a couple of inches new snow. Slopes were in good shape, although the base is getting a little low. The bumps on Exhibition were seeing a lot of action, and the bumps right side of Challenge were groomed out, making more room when the racers have the practice gates set up on the left. Challenge glade was pretty iffy - nice snow in spots, but a lot of rocks starting to push up. Got a few dings on my edges to work on. One park has some huge jumps - the amount of snow there should last until July. Saw JFSkiDan and he said he did some runs on Vader early before the new snow got pushed down to the bottom. Pretty busy in the morning, but started to clear out early afternoon for the game. The Challenge decision - fast groomer or bumps in the trees (rocks and roots free of charge)

Might be there, was up this afternoon for a couple of runs (literally). Should have checked the website - it was a radio station day and was packed. Past week was pretty rough on the slopes. They blew a fair amout of snow, and the Challenge glades got some. It was skiable top to bottom (almost) but there are some rock flowers blooming in back of the bumps. Only did one run - had just sharpened my edges after the damage from last Sunday. TBolt glade was wiped out, but One Park glade looked OK. The bumps on Exhibition looked good (still a little small), but sections that didn't get snow blow over them were lumps of solid ice. A fair amout of loose snow on the slopes, but solid ice underneath, and I don't know if the crowd today will leave much - hope the groomers can do their magic.
-
Last time the built seeded moguls on Exhibition, it took a few days to round off the tops and pack them down a little.
-
From JF facebook. Anyone have a report on them?

Finished up the weekend with a couple hours Sunday afternoon. Things were in better condition than last Sunday, but Challenge and Tbolt glades starting to show some rocks. Going to need to work on my edges this week. Looks like a tough week on the slopes coming up.
-
Too true - 30 seconds and 6 turns to get down Floyds.

Re Dan's picture of me taking a picture of Floyd's. What is missing from the photo? People. Even on a Saturday, at 8:30 you literally have the mountain to yourself.

Hmm, you would think Photobucket would keep the same link when you move the photo to an album. Happyland 1st slope 2nd slope 3rd slope Bottom slope

Dan and Guitar73 at the top of elevator.

Phone battery died (had it in an outside pocket). Some photos from today while it still had some juice (didn't get Dan's Vader run on video). Floyds First headwall in Happyland Second headwall Third headwall Last section below the race shack (EMtn lift on right. Dan and Mark at top of Vader (just before the battery died)

Happyland like silk. SkiDan just dropped into the Vader. Didn't waste any time getting that fresh pow pow.
