My Carv report for my best run on Floyd’s. Nothing to be too proud about, but conditions were pretty soft

3/8/24…pretty nice..better than expected.

Razors left side was my ROTD. Right side was still icey when I called it a day. Made the mistake of TCS as first run. -
Out for a couple of hours today. DeMattes and Challenge closed due to large bare spots. Tbolt had a path down over to E Mtn. Rivershot and Floyd’s in great shape considering. Anyone else out there today? One Park and Exhibition in pretty good shape. Maybe 50 cars in the lots.

JF has a lot less manpower requirement to open.

A lot of regular morning people getting their last days in.
-
We have a really big shew tonight, with Topo Gigo, the talking mouse.
-
No, we did that several years ago at the KOA near Whiteface, got 3 foot of snow and are still traumatized from it.
-
Not to bad in the morning today, but mashed potatoes in the afternoon. Rain tomorrow, very cold on Thursday, Friday looks perfect.

Out with the grandkids today. Got there at noon, it was starting to clear out. Parked slope side close to lodge. Lodge not at all crowded. Half dozen runs on the beginner chair. Ready to ski with leashes next time. French fries and hot chocolate afterwards. Good time had by all. Watched the kids in the lodge while mom and dad did adult ski.
-
They mainly scan as you enter the snow at the lodge. Sometimes a scanner will move from lift to lift for a few minutes. 10 minutes at a lift will catch anyone without a pass. Most weekday afternoons that we ski we don’t get scanned at all.

Did chute over the lip today and there were 2 boarders hanging out about 30 feet down.
-
And the beer in the quad line waiting for rope drop.
-
Nice day on the slopes Wednesday. Still blowing on NMDW. Both corrals pretty much full by 1030.

Kind of thinking they are blowing a lot of snow on NM/DW to put features in.

Snowbrains.com has a RSS feed, for anyone into vintage tech.

Used to have a tiny 1990 Honda civic junker. Took great pleasure in squeezing into spots in ski areas where people parked just close enough together that they thought someone couldn’t park between them. Usually high end vehicles.

It is, Airhead must have a weekday pass. My skipping weekends is by choice (I could say I don’t like crowds, but it is really to let the old body recover).
-
? My second year with a senior pass. When I left today at 11, there were probably 50 cars parked across the street. Have an off peak, northeast, senior Epic pass to ski Frost with the wife.

Great conditions, fierce wind blowing up the hill. Blowing still on sidewinder, Switch open but very marbley as expected for first day. Everything else very nice. Razors stayed open. Freefall and Challenge very edgeable . Pretty crowded though with schools off today. Third run up the quad the line was backed up halfway to the gates in the corral. By 1015 all three lifts were backed up to the gates.
-
No. They were just setting up ropes inside the Main St lift corral as I left.
-
All slopes in pretty good shape except Midway and the area above (though better than yesterday). Quad was running better than yesterday, although still had some delays. By 10 the line for the quad was backed up to the gates. No sign of starting challenge express by the time I left at 11. Noticed a lot of the trails are groomed out a lot wider than previously, particularly freefall.
-
41, hit 44 a couple of days ago on Razors bottom headwall, but that doesn’t really count since I wasn’t on my edges. Otherwise nothing above 40 at Blue this year. Getting cautious in my old age.
-
Challenge Express started up about 1030 after the quad had extended pauses on every trip up. Every slope was in great shape except the section above midway that had some big groomer gouges hiding in the shadows. Strong wind blowing up the hill, but not too bad on more protected slopes. Guns going full blast on Sidewinder and Switch, neither were open. Glades were sketchy if you care about your equipment. Hit one of my higher speeds of the year on lower Main.

Blew snow last night.
