12/8-12/10…weekend roll call thread.
C1erArt replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Blue Mountain
You can order two sets of free kits, one from the fall, and one from this winter. -
Couldn’t wait for Friday to have blue reopen, so spent the morning at Frost. 27° when I got there and 30 when I left about noon. Snowing fairly hard first thing in the morning, with about 2 inches of fresh powder. Did a run on Jane’s Lane, and then the rest of the morning on One Park. They had a half dozen features on one park. They were blowing snow on Dematte’s andappeared to be on Challenge also. Still a long way to go for both of those slopes. The new four person lift going over exhibition was pretty nice, although, of course pretty slow. Lifties were very friendly today. Probably about 30 people in the house. A car missed a turn on the road going out and was being towed. All in all, and nice morning. Exhibition One Park

We had a portable gasoline generator that put out 2 phases, and put in a 2 phase plug and socket on the power line to the well and fabbed up a little adapter so we could hook it up to 110 cords coming from each side of the generator to the well. High level alarm from the septic pump tank was also put on the generator. Also cut into the furnace power with a dedicated outlet and pigtail coming from the kill switch so we could supply that with the generator. Probably not code, but it is all in the basement, so doing a rewire if there is a fuss when we sell the house isn’t a big deal.

Need a space to keep all our toys. Kayaks, paddles, fishing gear, archery, bikes, skis, Jeep tow and recovery gear, hiking packs and boots. Any plans for a whole house generator? That was a purchase we never regretted.

Worthington glacier at Thompson Pass above Valdez this summer. They just got 65 inches of snow in 24 hours.

After 3 years of La Niña, we transitioned to El Niño last June. Not sure how La Niña affects snowfall.
-
El Niño could be a spoiler this winter. Strong one predicted this year and a NOAA blog post showed a historical snowfall map of El Niño years. Hopefully we get some cold snowmaking weather.

New fuel filter, air filter and spark plug for the backpack leaf blower. Blow leaves, mulch and blow mulch off the lawn every other day. Sour gum trees coming down now. Was clean yesterday.

Why does the bear cross the road? To get in front of my camper. Fortunately, he turned around when he heard my brakes lock up. https://youtu.be/qBhCgYvBe3I

Coming back from Sacramento on 80. Heading thru SLC today and hopefully they will open 80 in Wyoming by the time we get there. Donner Pass:

From what I see, Epic doesn’t have that spring skiing add on for new pass holders?

Got some nice runs on an empty and perfect Switchback (except for one thin part visible from the lift) until about 10:15 when everyone found it.

I was up pretty quick, no yard sale this time. I have a black front, green back helmet, and my son’s old Leki race poles.

Really nice day. The new 6 pack was down, so it kept the crowds off of Switch and Main. Less powder on those slopes, an inch or so, so they must have groomed later than the east side. Think they expanded the bumps. Big PSIA certification day, so large groups on the slopes, they didn’t cycle thru the lift too often, so the lift line wasn’t too bad They did cut up the powder pretty fast though. The ski patrol was very nice and stayed to the very edges on their pre check, so fresh slopes for first run. Headwind up top Got there early, first in line and second chair behind stickered blue helmet guy. All set for second tracks down razors, when I hit some wind blown cord just before the lip and then buried my tips in a freshie pile and did a face plant😂 Good thing about being a geezer is that it is funny as it’s happening rather than after the embarrassment wears off. Still got tracks in the first dozen. Appreciative jlaw and DiMe didn’t spray me as they went past, but that would have taken too much time from hitting the slope, so it probably wasn’t out of their goodness of heart.

Nice morning, first chair on quad and first tracks (other than ski patrol) down Razors. Good condition. Nightmare getting a little tough. Spent most of the day on the new 6 pack. All slopes were nice, got softer but never mushy as the morning on. Not crowded, no lift line. Geezers out in force. The bathroom before opening always reminds me of that movie scene from Trading Places, except with us geezers instead of young traders. Brown spots are creeping in, kind of like a zombie take over.

All slopes were pretty nice, but Switchback and Razor’s were particularly smooth and fast. Very light crowd, think a lot of regulars are off on trips.

Only complaints are that people only load 3 or 4 to a chair even when it is busy, and it comes almost to a complete stop when unloading, so you can’t jump off of it early with some speed like you can the quad and Challenge Express (although I noticed today they packed snow at the front of the unloading platform so you could hop off a couple of feet early with a little bit of speed). Also the limited area at top (and bottom) tends to collect a crowd. Comfy chair though, and I like the spring assist bar
